Mayfair Country Club

I played this yesterday, a fairly cold and overcast day for Central Florida, as I got a Hot Deal for my buddy and me. The last time here, last October, the new clubhouse that has been advertised for some years (?) now has finally stated construction. From my personal observations, the contractor is not moving too fast and I would not expect completion before the end of this year.

Anyway, the course is an older layout of past times but still well designed, and the greens are, IMO, the equal of Bay Hill for speed and difficulty. (I've played Bay Hill a few times, so this is my personal view.) Some of the greens have a false front and most are tilted back to front, making speed of your putt a prime consideration along with the many undulations. Today, most pins were cut either far back or in front making putting even more adventurous. The greens are in nice condition, though the location of where pins were previously cut makes their appearance somewhat pockmarked, but the clientele seems to be good about fixing ball marks, unlike most local courses. The tees and fairways need some help, though, as some tees were tacky and there are lots of bare areas on the fairways. The water hazard on 16 is badly in need of water; some hazards have enough water but some do not.

This course once held a PGA tournament between 1955 and 1958 and it must have been a good test for pros in an era of wooden woods, old blade irons, and the wound construction balls of that time. Still, Mayfair may be a bit aged and shopworn but it's still a good test of your golfing skills, especially putting. I really like this course and can only hope the new clubhouse is completed quickly and that it can still retain the charm of times past.

This is a fairly decent course. The course has a great layout with some very scenic areas and fair share of water hazards. The pace of play was steady - we finished in 4 hours even. The staff are friendly, courteous and helpful. The greens are in good shape and very fast. The fairways are dry with bare spots here and there but I noticed the effort to improve condition with new sod in many areas. The construction of a new clubhouse and parking lot is in progress and the temporary parking and starting area is adequate but a bit chaotic. Overall, this course is enjoyable and offered good value on Golfnow Hot Deal and we will certainlt play it again!

Greens are good, pro shop is being built so expect parking lot construction. Fairways need more grass lots of dirt and sand but overall good experience and the value is good. Will play again.

Now it’s no Augusta, but I really enjoyed playing here. Only issue I had was the pace of play because there was a very slow foursome in front of us, but that was not the fault of the course.

Enjoyable course layout. Variety of both difficult and easy holes lengths. Tee boxes and fairways above average condition. Greens are in good condition with plenty of contour. New clubhouse & pro shop are under construction. Driving range is closed during construction. I will definitely play again.

Course looks good, greens were solid, fairway was mostly solid. No complaints, course was solid. Played here many times and it looks as good as it ever has.

Will be a great local course once they have their bar/clubhouse up and running again in less than a year. Right now it’s a golf and leave place. Before, and hopefully again soon, it will be a golf and then hang out type place.

Greens lightening fast. Course continues to improve.

Love all the work they are doing.

What they need is a cart person as missing huge opportunity to sell drinks and food. Also a ranger for those who move very slow

Club house under total rebuild however very workable presently. Greens are good condition - little slow. Roll smoothly. For someone who doesn’t know the course, there are no Signage anywhere. GPS on cart shows yardage only. If you don’t know the course there are no layouts to show how the hole is played out. Nothing on the scorecard to show layout. Course needs signs with hole layout. Car attendants were great. Friendly and shared critical information. Course is priced correctly.

Course is in bad shape and is way too expensive for its condition. Fairways are some of the worst I've seen. They most tee boxes were not good, very bumpy and lots of dandy spots. Greens were in decent shape but were rock hard and very fast. Hope they turn in around since it's a good layout and a nice challenge. I would wait until they complete the clubhouse and put some money back into the course.

I know we have come weather, but the fairways were dry and bare. Run the irrigation.

This place isn't worth 20 dollars let alone 40. Dirt patches all over the greens, dirt patches all over the fairways, if you can even call them fairways. AVOID THIS COURSE AT ALL COSTS!! PACE OF PLAY WAS HORRENDOUS, they have the nerve to have a sign that says "No outside alcohol" but then don't have a cart girl. Terrible waste of time.
