The course needs some maintenance but it's still fun to play depending on the wind. The fun comes from the risk/reward holes when go for the green.
The fairways have not recovered from the high desert cold months and the sand traps could use more sand. With an 11 m/hr wind and the hard fairways, It was easy for your off line tee ball to run-out into a water hazard placed on several of the holes. Also, the pin placements on several holes were set up for a Sunday tournament. The greens were very fast with debris from the numerous water fowl. What makes the course fun is that there are several holes you can go for the green. But I must say their practice facility is outstanding.
Hard to beat.
I like the course enough that I've made it "my regular course" so to speak. My wife is a teacher and I'm a supervisor for a construction company and I consider us at least average or above on the food chain and we both love to play, but still I believe the sport is rather costly to indulge and as much as I love this game, I would still give it up if it were any more expensive to play. With that in mind I have to say that compared to some courses I play in other areas, Ashwood is not overly priced for what the course offers.
I've played courses in this price range that were not maintained near as well as Ashwood and left much to be desired. It's a pleasant course with a great staff and reasonable rates. I only have good thing to say about this course. There are a few holes that make me tee off with a less than desirable drives because "out of bounds" means "houses" and for an old hack like me, some of them are just too close. But this is true for most of the courses I've played. If you're not a "pro" then don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about!
Anyway, I'm on there email list so I get notified of special rate offers as well as special functions like nite golf, etc., in case I want to take advantage of any of that. In my opinion this course is an excellent golfing value.
I love having three 9s to choose from.
I love this course and the staff is great!!! I love having three 9s to choose from. It is like playing a different course everytime I play there.
stress free, easy and fun
I will play it again. This course will improve your short game.
Bang for the buck!
Small course, wide fairways, made some sorry shots, but found my ball most of the time! Staff is nice. Joseph told us that there are sometimes discounts online, which saved us some bucks! Thanks Ashwood.
Ashwood
This is one if my favorite courses to play. Even though it is a 45 minutes drive it is well worth it. As there are 3 seperate 9-hole courses at this location, the diverseness keeps it fun. They also have a very nice driving range, seperate chipping area and huge putting green. The course is well maintained and the wild life there is plentiful. A really fun place to play.
The best public course in the High Desert
Ashwood Golf course offers three challenging nine hole courses. From the blue markers, it is just as challenging as any around. The greens roll beautifully and the course is in great winter condition.
This couses is not long but will challenge you with placement of ball.
Great greens and clean, this course will challenge you wiht your ball placement on par 4's and really get your attention with the various par 3's, this time of year the fairways are rolling with quick greens and many uneven lies both in fairways and greens.
Excellent place to enjoy a day at a peacful golf course surrounded by mountains and great scenery.
Incredibly well kept course, very nice Greens & challenging fairways.
This is one of my favorite courses. Ashwood is a hidden jewel, it has fast greens & incredible fairways. I think I am making this the Saturday game course. The staff is friendly & facility very well kept, Ahwood has that new Golf Club feel that fits perfect & makes for an incredible day.
Overall a good day.
The staff was friendly and helpful as always. One of my friends had forgotten his putter. I asked the staff if they had any left putters which he could use. The gentleman who checked 2 of us in went straight to the golf barn and returned with a putter. The course was in good shape except for some standing water on Sycamore #1. There was also one large section of bare fairway on 1 of the par 3s on sycamore. One of the golfers in our foursome complained about the number of geese on the fairways; however, we did not hit any. Lastly, upon departure we entered the pro shop to return the putter and give them a wedge we had found on the course. We were greeted as usually by Hillary's wonderful smile which capped off our day.
Always enjoy playing this course.
I come from Albuquerque NM to play the course with my son. Above average condition. Variety of challenges.
The course is a fun executive course
The only downside to this course is the bunkers which has not sand and too many rocks. Stay in the fairways if you don't want to lose a lot of balls.
Good value for the price
Courses are in great shape for this time of year. We enjoy these courses for the beauty and well maintained grounds.
Short Fun
This is the best kept course in the High Desert. Challenging.
keep out o trouble and you will do fine.
have written in the past about the sand traps having big rocks
in Birch course. they have done a lot better in cleaning them up. their are some places that the grass isn't cut very good but all in all it is alot better.
All three courses are fun to play
The courses are well kept and fun to play. They have more sandtraps than I've been used to but they add challenge to the game. The sand could be a little finer with less pebbles but that's not a big issue.
Course is well maintained. Par 4s are fairly easy with most around 320 in yardarge. Greens excellent and true.
Yardage just right for players with shorter distance drives. Gives longer driver opportunity to fine tune short iron approach shots. Greens are fun to putt. Played on unusually calm day; windy days could add 3 to 5 strokes to average player's score.
Great Course!
Ashwood is an executive style course that is well maintained. Each of the three 9 hole courses present their own unique challenges. The practice facility is superb and the staff is friendly. The food is delicious and reasonably priced.
Very nice course
Nice couse and even better staff, enjoy playing here.
