RedTail Golf Club
About
Atypical of many Florida golf courses, RedTail Golf Club is a links-style layout dotted with 100-year-old oak trees and azaleas among its rolling green fairways. Designed by Dave Harman, who also did Shingle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, the course features four lakes with water coming into play on the last five holes. Holes 14-18 work their way around the largest lake on the course, while the finishing hole's approach shot plays over another body of water in front of the clubhouse. Located in rural Sorrento a little more than a half hour north of Orlando, RedTail Golf Club prides itself on catering to "members only."

Nice place
I like the course. Above average winter conditions. Great layout greens fair rolls pretty good for winter conditions. 40/50$/round cart included with gps. I plan on playing there again.👍
What as happened to this place ??
Gone down hill very fast ! The range is full of dirt and dust completely lost it ! The course isn’t much better the greens are ok to be fair ! Tee boxes and fairways terrible. Shame great layout and bar area and food is good
Disappointing
This place used to be great but it certainly has sank downhill. Paid $68 and wouldn’t attempt it again. Such a bummer. Incredible they’re charging that much.
Red Tail
Great layout. Easily accessible off of 429. Worth the ride. Bunkers and a few tees need some loving care. Some challenging holes. Be wary of #18.
Don't play
Course needs help.
Greens are bumpy with weeds Fairways are bald
Tee boxes no good. Course needs major improvements
The heck happened here?
New ownership from overseas has ruined this track. Not a single good tee box, not one smooth putting surface, fairways were trash. 10 years ago, this course was immaculate. Today, we paid $65. It’s not worth $25. Worst course conditions in the area. This new ownership group out of Korea has completely taken a top 10 course, and made it worse than a Zellwood or Golf Club of Mt Dora. These people that own these million dollar homes in the course should be furious. These owners need to do something quickly, or sell the place to folks that care. A dang shame
Terrible course conditions
Course was in awful shape and has been for quite some time. Snotty girl at the pro shop was anything but welcoming. That is bad business when your first bad impression comes from the pro shop. I understand that this is the winter, but I really expected more from Red Tail.
Check in was really bad
Came one hour before teatime. Girl at front Dess told me I could not get a cart until 10 minutes before my teatime. Driving range and putting green is far away from clubhouse. They wouldn’t let me take a cart. I had to sit in my car until 15 minutes before my teatime. I go to check in and the rest of my group who I don’t know. Has already checked in and already have carts on the putting green by the first tee. Horrible horrible horrible experience. I asked the rest of the group and they all said the girl was horrible and mean. She should be fired.
Once a gem.....but
The layout along with the entire community are beautiful, clubhouse is gorgeous and carts are great, but that's where it ends. The course and the driving range are in horrible condition. This place used to be really nice!!!!!. Our tee time was at 12:30, the cart girl came by at 12:45....never saw her again which was surprising since there were just a handful of people on the course. When we finished our round at 5, our group headed to the 19th hole since we hadn't seen the cart girl.....the restaurant and bar close at 5!!!!!.
I'm worried the course is in financial trouble. Hope it survives.
VERIFIED REVIEW
Guy in pro-shop said to only trust “verified reviews” this review is verified, 2 tee times 9:49 and 9:58. This course has gone to complete garbage. Every green has weeds growing in them!!! Fairways are rubbish! Teeboxes = sandtrap. It’s garbage at anything over $36. This place used to be so good, now the staff is argumentative at best and the course is almost beyond redemption.
Feel bad for all these home buyers in the community!
100% accurate, based on my multiple experiences here over past 24 months. This dog track is finished.
Great layout but poor conditions.
You can tell that this was once a fine track, but it severely lacked maintenance as the conditions were pretty poor. Tee boxes, fairways and bunkers were inconsistent, the greens were obviously getting overrun with crabgrass, and many putts were playing like Plinko. Too bad, as it could be a great track with a little more course upkeep. I wouldn't want to pay more than the $40 I paid.
Patchy fairways
Fairways were patchy. Clubhouse restaurant was closed. Enjoyable round.
Red Tail
Challenging track in Sorrento. Easily accessible of the 429. Worth the drive. Some areas were very wet and bunkers need attention.
Good course, slow play
The course is in great condition considering the time of year and recent weather. Tricky back 9, but overall good layout all around. Only gripe today is there is nobody monitoring the pace of play, and it seems people were joining in between groups which slowed things down more.
Aside from that, great round, I look forward to playing again.
First time played it
Very interesting layout. Front nine was easy to see the hole layout. Back nine a little tougher. Layed up on some shots where I didn’t have too. On board GPS made it look like some areas were marshland but it turned out it was just dormant rough. Will play it differently next time.
Red Tail Back in Great Condition
First, let me say that this day started out below 50*, so I could have sold my knit-cap for about $40 (I'm from Ohio & was prepared). Red Tail is back to where it was a 5-years ago. I like the layout, particularly the back9 & last 5 holes around a big lake. Each hole at RedTail has its own challenges, and very diverse layout. Before you even think about 2putts for par (some greens are huge & rolling), you have to navigate narrow hallways called fairways (#7&8), or hit extra club into the plateaus of greens (starting #1 & ending #18 as most all are perched higher than the fairway or level all carry shots). I like the par5s, a lot of target golf, but fun to me. Again, I was really surprised by the greens and their improvement from last time I was here (thinking the course was about to close); good sand in Bunkers; good T-boxes for variety of lengths .......its just a fun challenging layout. With big 410+yrd par4's ---like #10 & 18, par for this old guy is at least 74 (maybe I shouldn't play white Tees all around). Pro & cartgal were running a cookout at Halfway House, so that was good for a grilled sandwich or drink, and just another indication how the staff is trying to make up for a couple of lost years. Oh, I almost forgot, carts are fabulous, with comfortable seats & GPS, and the cart-guy would valet you to car & return cart to barn. Thanx to GN for the Hot Deals & I will be back, gotta redeem my score & avoid a couple DbleBogies, otherwise a very enjoyable day at RedTail.
Sounds like yet another "member" review, trying to save this place....
Your comment is accurate as far as Red tail, but beyond that, you are comparing apples to oranges. Zellwood is an EXCELLENT course for what it claims to be.
Red tail pretends its 'above" the average course... maybe 15 years ago, but no longer. i would play Zellwood ANY day for the cost/enjoyment factor than red tail.
Red tail is dying, Zellwood is GROWING....
FACT!
