About
Eagle Dunes Golf Club in Sorrento sprawls across rolling elevation changes that aren't typically found on central Florida courses. The course also claims to have the area's truest putting surfaces. The layout stretches to just over 7,024 yards from the back tees. Long hitters will be pleased about the opportunity to grip it and rip it but ball placement is an important factor. The golf course is punishing even if you're only slightly errant. The vast sand traps seem like you're playing across a desert and the occasional water hazard comes into play as well. The wide, player-friendly fairways help to balance the challenges of the golf course. Since opening in 2003, Eagle Dunes Golf Club has garnered a strong following amongst locals and has earned the distinction of being one of Gold Digest's "Best Places to Play."

Rooting for an old favorite
I have always enjoyed playing Eagle Dunes and found the staff very friendly as well.
This year for whatever reason, the fairways although decent in some areas, have just way too many poor fairways where you are either hitting off dirt or some type of unplayable surface. If you just want a fun day to hack around a pleasant golf course all is fine, but I end up with botched holes and high scores due to continuous unfair playing conditions. The greens do play much better, but the overall conditions currently deter me from playing here frequently.
I look forward to the course resuming its previous conditions and when it does I will be glad to resume playing here.

Nice layout. Greens great. Fairways and tee boxes were rough. All in all ,not bad for the money.

Fairways getting embarrasing
Unfortunately this course has allowed its fairways to become beyond unacceptable, they rely entirely on the fast greens. I do hope that when the daily rains resume in the Summer, perhaps the grass will grow to improve conditions.
I have always liked Eagle Dunes and perhaps there is a market for casual golfers who just like wide open fairways and don't care, however I prefer to play golf off grass and not dirt. I am rooting for this course to regain its previous conditions as I have always enjoyed playing here.

Disappointing return
Have played Eagle Dunes many times…. They had a Saturday morning tournament and allowed non-commits to play… delayed our 10 am tee time by 30 minutes.
Slow pace (5 hours). Weeds everywhere. Fairways same condition as rough.

Played this courses dozens of times over the years. Great design but overall condition has degraded. Greens were okay but fairways were burned out with lots of bare patches. Traps and waste areas have been neglected.

Championship Track
Listen Ya’ll,
I hear the beef with the fairways, but you’ve got to understand that Florida golf in the winter is generally played on dormant grass. Unless the course has the money and staffing to overseed, the condition of the fairways and tees is pretty much on par with what you’ll see this time of year.
The greens were about 9.5 on the stimp, and rolled fantastic.
I’ve never played a more forgiving golf course off the tee, which makes it a lot of fun. Couple the ample driving area with interesting green complexes, and you’ve got a track that’s a blast to play.
I also love the elevation changes; something you don’t get in Florida.

Eagle Dunes
Great track. Love the layout. Plays tough in the wind. Some challenging holes. Easily accessible off of 429.
Very open
A wide open course with very few trees. I. Would not like to play here if windy. Greens were fine but the fairways were quite sparse. Pro shop friendly with a fair range. Good value for florida golf.

This course is struggling
The tee boxes were kind of rough, some were bare, only a few had some grass. The fairways had little grass. Mostly dirt and weeds. The greens were decent but varied greatly in speed and quality of grass. Nice track, but needs some serious attention.

With water could be awesome
Greens nice but fairways, mostly back 9, felt like cow pasture. Love the layout and believe this place could be beautiful. Will give one more try

Disappointed
I played this course a number of times in the past. Last time was about 3 years ago. My wife and I live in Mt. Dora, so I wanted to take her to a different course. We arrived early and there was a back-up for our 11:12 tee time. Once we made it to the first tee, I was very disappointed to see the condition of the tee box. Almost all dirt and very little grass. Looking over the course from there, we could see the rest of the course looked about the same. Alot of brown grass/dirt everywhere. Once we had played a few holes, it was clear that the whole course was worn out and in a very poor condition. You couldn't tell the fairway from the rough, greens were dry and beat up. We finished the round and all 18 holes were in the same condition. For the money they charge, it was a very disappointing. We will not be back!
