About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2017.
The Champions Club at the Retreat was carefully carved from the canyons that surround the Cleveland National Forest. The golf course closely follows the natural contours and depressions of the landscape, providing a variety of elevation changes with which to contend. The undulating greens usually have multiple tiers and the hills and valleys guarantee a few blind shots and forced carries. Your shots won't need length necessarily, but they will need to be straight. Each hole offers not only a unique design thanks to the diverse terrain but also different, equally stunning views. To make this formidable golf course more playable for a wider range of skill levels, a 2011 renovation took out 16 punishing fairway and greenside bunkers but there are still plenty there to provide a challenge.

Not a fair test
All the houses lining the fairways are on top of the ridges. The golf holes are up and down the sides of the gullies. Never a flat lie, uphill shots to pins that are nearly impossible to get near.
very challenging
I like the GPS on the carts, really helps if you have never played this course
This course is always a challenge !!
Hooked up with two other guys that had never played The Retreat, and had a great time with them. Course was in pretty good shape, and always challenging. Played in about 4 1/2 hours (not too bad), the only issue that we had, (and come to find out later what the other twosome had), was the willingness of the pro shop staff to work with us on a pre-paid special all-day rate, which obviously they promoted. I can never understand why they are not more receptive to their customers during these situations ?? It kind of leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth. Oh well, the day was fantastic, and the company was great.
great layout can't beat the price.
Super fast greens and definitely target golf very friendly staff. Club selection crucial to scorimg.
Disapointed Birthday Girl : (
Ihave played on this course numerious times and loving it,I always bring new golfer friends to this course.
Sorry to said this but this is the last time i will play here never again because of my recent played,I booked for 3 for $39 each but I got a late arrival so we ended up with a 4 sums the last person was a birthday girl,I have called the club house informed them about the situation the gentleman answering the phone told me it was fine and we all can pay the same rates when we arrived that wasn't the case HE CHARGES HER $49 because of the Holliday's rate. But what can we do but to paid and play,it was the worse day of golf for everyone because I was upset and the one to repremended highly of this course and staffs.
Course golf carts had gps in every other cart. Not good!
Golf course drainage system not good fairways to wet. To many ground under repair.
Humbling Course
This course is always well kept and challenging. I love playing this course.
Tough time unless you are dead center
This course is a challenge for anyone. You had best have your A game or you will be paying with balls and cries of pain. Every hole gives you an opportunity to make double or birdie. The greens are fast and you have to decide if you settle for bogey or go for birdie. You can easily go 5 ft past the hole if you miss it even slightly. The fairways are tight and blind shots are the norm not the exception. Great fun but not for the timid. I enjoy this course but only play it 2-3 times a year..I don't need to know how much I have to learn.
This course is definitely a putting challenge
Someone needs to pair up all the twosomes scattered around the course, so the pace of play could flow a little faster. As long as you have a mindset that its going to be a 5 hour round you'll be fine
Challenging but one of the best golf courses I ever played
Great views on every hole. I kept taking pictures. Very challenging golf but I will come back anytime.
Great golf course and super friendly staff.
Love to play again this challenging and super green condition course soon.
AWESOME COURSE!!
If your looking for a golf course that has that country club feel, spread out with great views, and is going to test every ability of your game check this one out. played here today for the first time and I loved it. From staff, tee, fairway to green Id recommend it for sure. I will definitely be back to play. AWESOME COURSE!!!
Great course
Lately I looked For good course!
I don't care how far, I want to play @ nice course.
This course is great deal, good course.
Challenging Course with great Greens.
I think this is one of the Top Golf Courses in So Cal. To quote the starter who was very informative, a lot of fun and just a nice man that said it best. I will be bleeding after the front nine. He was correct. It beat me up. Tough, but I love the challenge and it is making me come back next week and I know I will play better as I have a little knowledge of the course now.
The facilities are top notch, very impressive.
Every employee, from the Valet, the Server/Bartender, the Starter, the Golf Cart kid who wiped down the clubs and even the General Manager who took the time to talk with us about the course Changes and just made sure that we had a positive experience were some of the most attentive people made the experience fantastic.
Thank you.
Fun Course To Play
Always enjoy the challenge of playing this course. Really like the scenery also.
Championship golf course
I enjoyed the round with couple. It was my first time to play at the course....you have to know the layout of the course or else you will end loosing a lot of golfballs. The twosome I played with are so nice...they show me where and how to play the course. The golf course is not for the novice....a lot of hills and ravines. The greens are hard to read ( we're on top of the mountain).
Target golf, Shot placement is key.
The course is in good shape and the greens are rolling true!
Probably the toughest course on the I15 corridor. Have to play a few times to get the hang of it. Challenging but fun.
great views
I love this course but, the greens were crusty & slow. The fairways had numerous wet spots with cart tracks. This is a fun course.
You got to be kidding
As for this course, unless you are into punishment, stay away! May be the most difficult course in the area.... would take at least a dozen rounds to get any feel for how to play this tight, hilly, pure position golf course. Thank goodness for the guy that I played with as he has been playinghere for years, and was able to talk me around the couse on every hole. Only able to hit driver 4 times. Now, some people may like this kind of course, but as for me, not my style!
Awesome course
Great customer service. The staff was very helpful
