Good Day...but.
Today was a good day at the Orchard Course. Most days, however the pace of play is pretty bad, as you can expect on a track surrounded by "retired" folks. The course is in better shape that many others around at this price point. Be advised, unlike most courses there is no snack bar at the turn. Staff were friendly and helpful, great warm up/practice areas. The men's restroom near the pro shop smells like downtown SF, if you take my meaning, but that's the worst I can say. Would recommend and play again. Very fun course.
Orchard course
Great rates on GolfNow Rewards. ..course was kind of wet...water in a couple of cups ...bit of a problem with geese not near as bad as the ridge
I can't believe they think this is good
Alright I understand that employees need to support the place they work but lets be real. Bothe of these courses are going down hill. I would think that a company like Billy Caster Manager would have more pride is the product they are tied to. There are way to many weeds everywhere on the courses, the over watering or poor drainage makes the course unplayable in places, tee boxes need work and the bunkers should be grassed in because it is apparent that no one takes care of them. I would bet none of them have been raked or cleaned in a couple of months. They have been bad for a few years now. One of the club pros said they know they are bad and we are working on them, we have 8 done. ?????? 8 out of more then 100? Are you kidding me. Lets be honest, most courses now days are having issues but these should not be not with where they are at and who is managing them.
Lonely
We went out wed around noontime and we had the place to ourselves. Only saw 2 other players all day. A little rough around the edges but tee to green was good.
Could Be A Very Nice Course.....But...
The Orchard course is a nice layout, however there are issues with the maintenance. The course has extensive native grasses ( read weeds) throughout all areas to include green surrounds, open areas and even in the fairways which besides the "native grasses" have patches of sparse to no grass. Unfortunately, we caught it shortly after the greens had been punched and sanded so they were not in the best of shape. It appears there is either a lack of funds or too few grounds personnel to maintain this course to the standard that residents/members should expect. I would not reccommend this course at this time and in this condition.
The Hills Course
The Hills Course was in great shape, fast pace of play, wide open fairways. Highly recommend this track!
Didn't see an "Orchard"
My first time playing this course. (Orchard) I enjoyed it mostly due to the price I got: early morning $34.
The course covers a wide expanse. There were several challenging holes with some forced carries to deal with. Going based on pictures it is not as rural as one would imagine, so that was a bit of a let down for me. The course winds thru an old retirement community and is mostly surrounded by houses. I'm guessing there used to be an orchard here and they put houses and a golf course over it because it's not here now.
The greens were in fair shape but could stand to be rolled. As mentioned in other reviews, the bunkers need maintenance both in terms of sand (some are hardpanned with weeds) and need raking.
Things looked a little rough for the most part but hey, it's August in the Central Valley and it's been 100+ with plenty of smoke in the air from wildfires. Under those circumstances and what I paid it was a fine course. Just don't expect what you see in pictures but that holds true for a lot of courses.
This was supposedly the better of the 2 Lincoln Hill courses. I don't think I would return to play it again but am glad I gave it a try. Take all of this with a grain of salt. I once expressed dissatisfaction on a golf course on a beautiful southern California day because the champagne I received from the beverage cart was "a little flat". Then, it dawned on me, I was complaining about champagne while out on the golf course. Yes. I have really "big" problems in my life. Rolls eyes.
Take home message: It's worth a try if you don't pay a lot and don't have grand expectations.
Dog days of summer
Great courses. Played the Hills last week and Orchard course. Both courses were in pretty good shape. Pace of play was great. Greens were good. Great value on both courses. I highly reccomend both courses.
Green and bunker Condition
The greens needed some work and were reasonable slow. The course in general looks great but not for the price.
The bunkers were in very poor condition as if they consciously are letting them go to weeds and not rake them.
Hot Time- Good time
Enjoyed the course, pretty hot but course had several, 10 Gal Cool water chest to keep all who drink to stay hydrated. Very grateful for the water. Course is in good shape. Had an enjoyable day at the Orchard Course on Lincoln Hills GC. You will too!
Plenty of Challenges
Your tee box changes will allow for change in slope rating. Played on a hotter day , accounting for slower greens. Course layout pleasing to the eye. The practice area was well maintained and very convenient to the 1st tees of both courses on property. Plenty of water was available along the course route and the course was well marked. The day was extremely warm but golf was pleasant.
Great course
The course and layout are friendly to the average player. Greens are challenging. People at the course were a bit off. I’ve never been here before so I wasn’t sure were to get range balls. Asked a fellow golfer they were a bit crusty with their answer. Great place to golf though
Lincoln Hills
Played the Orchard course. It is in good shape. Last played it 4 months ago. Greens were in bad shape. Not any more. Glad things are back to the way they have been.
Where's the sand?
The only downsides to the whole round was the lack of sand in the bunkers and lack of GPS in the cart. The bunkers consisted of more dirt and rock than sand. I play other courses in the area and they all have some kind of GPS unit in the cart.
Great course
Little hard for me, was long from whites, but really fun. Pace was a little slow, and no food on the course was a bummer.
Lack of information
I showed up for my scheduled of 12:12 about 45 minutes early. Bought range balls and waited for my time. When I arrived, without there being a starter, I figured out that I was a single, which I was not told, or put into a different group. I played about 6 holes before I ran into their Monday Skins Game, which was made up of 3 FIVESOMES stretched out over 4 holes. I decided to skip ahead, where I ran into a group of Foursomes. Thus I just waited hole after hole until I finally finished my 14 hole round. Now mind you, I have worked in the Golf Business, where our rule was NEVER to send out Singles, let alone where there were FIVESOMES. I will never book a later Tee Time at This Golf Course again.
