Windy Harbor Golf Club

About
Windy Harbor Golf Club is a military golf course located at the Mayport Naval Station, it was formerly known as the Mayport Golf Club. The seaside course now takes its name from the blustery ocean breezes that sweep through the back nine. The golf course is narrow with tree-lined fairways and large, fast greens that are slightly sloped. There is also a defined cut of rough beside every fairway. Greenside bunkers and water hazards that come into play on nearly every hole make the course challenging for players of all abilities. Windy Harbor Golf Club also has practice facilities for golfers to use that include a driving range with grass and carpeted practice tees, a practice sand trap, and a large putting green.

Copaired to other courses in the area, this course is in good condition. Greens are fast, not in the best shape they have been in but still the best in the area.
So close to being one of the best in town
I enjoyed my round at Windy Harbor, but a few quirks kept it from being a total home run. The fairways and tees are excellent for this time of year. The greens are lightning fast, which I like, but most are dotted with weeds that can throw the ball offline. The other issue is that Bogey's bar closed at 1500 (3:00 p.m. for nonmilitary folks), so I couldn't grab a post-round beer.
1st timer.
My 1st time playing the course. I had been wanting to play the course for a couple of years. I normally stay and play at NAS-JAX. My bud that I normally play with informed me that NAS-JAX wasn't in good shape, and suggested Wie make the trek over to Mayport, citing the conditions there was much improved. Good suggestion. We caught the Hot-deal for $29. Course was full & we got paired with a nice couple (Albert & Wanda). The course was in really good shape. Plenty of grass to hit out of. Greens, tees, bunkers & rough, all in good shape. A nice layout, but not too hard. I saw 2 gators. Back-9 definitely had more character than the front. Enjoyed the day with my friend & new friends. Hopefully, I'll be back.
Good as always
Would have given 5 stars but just a tad slow. Had to wait on evert hole which is unusual for Windy Harbor. Greens firm and fast.
Good course for a base course
Great course, amazing fairways, horrible greens, good customer service.
Course looks pretty good
Course looks pretty good pace of play can usually be an issue. It would be nice if they would get a Ranger don’t judge the course by the practice green.
Best value in Jacksonville!
It’s no secret that Jacksonville has a serious lack of decent public golf courses. This is one of the better ones. Get your MWR card, you won’t regret it. Greens are solid and roll pure and quick. Fairways are in good shape , as is most of the rough. Bunkers are mostly in good shape and nice sand to hit out of. It’s a challenging layout, but still accessible for newer golfers from the forward tees.
Best Deal In Jax
The staff is outstanding. The greens are awesome. Wish the hiring freeze was lifted. Restaurant is only open until 3 because of it.
The base had restricted access which caused one player being refused access to the military base. Yet I don’t know how to receive a credit for the player denied access since the reservation was through golf now. Other than that it was a nice day.
Course good, but be wary of the security levels
Played recently and found out at the gate that they are not accepting MWR guests due to a heightened security level. I had no way of knowing this ahead of time so that was pretty frustrating. Fortunately I was playing with someone who did have base access so I was able to get in after all. May avoid this course going forward just so I don't have to deal with that.
Definitely need a ranger
Definitely need someone to go around and remind people to speed up. There’s always a group that ends up with three or four holes open in front of them and nobody says anything to them.
Winter conditions
I play Windy Harbor frequently. Pace is usually good and the value is good as well. Greens have become the hidden secret when it comes to the challenge of play.
