Shadow Ridge Golf Club
About
Nick Faldo brings his exacting, often critical eye to West Coast golf for the first time at this Shadow Ridge Golf Course in Palm Desert. Faldo wanted a design that forced a ton of strategic choices and the architect team of Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt delivered for him.
Options? You want options!
Ten of Shadow Ridge's 18 holes are doglegs. The towering Santa Rosa Mountains serve as backdrop. The tall native tawny grasses contrasts sharply with the white sand bunkering. But it's the golf choices that are likely to seize your attention at this 7,006-yard, par-71 course.
The finish alone is enough to rattle an average golfer to the bone. No. 17 is a 157-yard par 3 that puts the wind in your face and nothing but trouble straight ahead. There's a lake to carry, deep bunkers and a green that slants left to right like a wayward chalkboard. No. 18, a 446-yard par-4, places both a stream and big fairway bunkers right in the straightest path to the green.
"The fairways are generous and the bunkering style is bold," Faldo said. "And the greens have plenty of subtle undulations that reward and encourage a variety of approach shots."

Beautiful resort Photo submitted by MagecD on 10/08/2012
Great course, great practice area
Great course, great practice area. Be careful when you take a teetime after 12 PM because you are likely not going to get finished on time. Because it was cart path only the round took over four an a half hours and we did not get a chance to finish the last hole. Otherwise a great course and a great experience
The course opened recently which created a cart path only rule. This led to a 4:45 hour round.
Wait a few weeks until the course recovers from recent seeding and aeration
I loved the course layout but did not think what I paid was worth not being able to drive my cart on the fairway and the greens are horribly slow. The pace of play was very slow as well. We waited on most shots and finished in 5 hrs and 10 minutes. Not a marshal in sight.
Great course
Beautiful course, the staff friendlyness is hard to beat, everyone is so kind here, we really love this place. Really deserve a 5 star rating.
Great course. Needs a Marshall
Always a great course. Good conditions. Day was kind of ruined by an extremely slow back nine. Two groups of guys that were together kept waiting for the other group to hit into the green before they left for the next tee. Ridiculous!!!
In all the par fives the waited for the green to clear before hitting, even when way out. The twosome with us got so frustrated they quit.
All in all a great course with some extremely inconsiderate golfers and lack of a Marshall.
WONDERFUL COURSE
My wife and I played at 8:30 as a twosome and pace of play was very good. We are not long hitters so she played from the whites[93] and I played the combo(gold/white)[87]. Only waited on three tees near end of round for a few minutes , just under 4 hour round. Course was in great condition.
Great Track
This is one of the better daily fee courses in the Coachella Valley in my opinion always in good shape even at the end of summer challenging greens were challenging as well
Great condition for late summer
Played 09/03/21 and the course was in great condition. Greens were a little slow but rolled true.
Busy morning but pace of play was right around 4hr 5mins.
Poor Conditions
Course was in poor shape. Greens were sanded and very slow. Would not have booked it and played here if I knew that. Very disappointed.
Great course from any tee box. Wonderful and picturesque. Would love to play it again.
Shadow Ridge
Rode the Greens (6621/71.5/130) in slightly more than 4H twilight with Gary00. Great POP for 13 holes, then we we waited every shot from hole 14 on. The weather was in the high 90's, overcast and fairly calm. First time here in over 2 years, which is too long a gap for this place. One of the more underrated layouts in the greater Palm Springs area IMO.
Tees mowed close, with only a few needing divot attention.
Fairways semi lush and firm. Well maintained, mowed low, nice to play from.
Rough mostly lush, not overly tall and nice to chip out of.
Numerous traps on this course are large, deep, and need to be avoided by most. Green side sand traps were well maintained with good quality white sand. Some fairway traps are waste bunkers & less maintained.
Large Bermuda greens have lots of break/undulation. Rolling well at medium fast speed, they were firm but held approach shots with some run out. Usually no significant ball marks because of their firmness.
Fun Nick Faldo design with generous landing areas for most tee shots. Few forced carries. Great variety of holes. The par 3's offer a good variation in look and length. Customer service was very good from everyone encountered. Drink cart out and around numerous times. Some water stations on the course were open, others closed. Nice GPS on the carts. Excellent practice facility is all grass and includes balls with your fee. Highly recommended.
Great condition
Love this layout. Course was in excellent condition, but pace of play was slow. Group in front of us couldn't keep up, but no player assistants around to push them. They were playing the one up tees and maybe only one of them were capable at that level. Overall however, I must play this course at least once every time I'm here.
I've played just about all the public and resort courses in the Palm Springs area, and Shadow Ridge is in my top 3. I love it.
