Shadow Ridge Golf Club
About
Nick Faldo brings his exacting, often critical eye to West Coast golf for the first time at this Shadow Ridge Golf Course in Palm Desert. Faldo wanted a design that forced a ton of strategic choices and the architect team of Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt delivered for him.
Options? You want options!
Ten of Shadow Ridge's 18 holes are doglegs. The towering Santa Rosa Mountains serve as backdrop. The tall native tawny grasses contrasts sharply with the white sand bunkering. But it's the golf choices that are likely to seize your attention at this 7,006-yard, par-71 course.
The finish alone is enough to rattle an average golfer to the bone. No. 17 is a 157-yard par 3 that puts the wind in your face and nothing but trouble straight ahead. There's a lake to carry, deep bunkers and a green that slants left to right like a wayward chalkboard. No. 18, a 446-yard par-4, places both a stream and big fairway bunkers right in the straightest path to the green.
"The fairways are generous and the bunkering style is bold," Faldo said. "And the greens have plenty of subtle undulations that reward and encourage a variety of approach shots."

Beautiful resort Photo submitted by MagecD on 10/08/2012
Great value
Excellent value for the discounted rate, conditions were excellent and fast play.
muy buen campo
El césped es increíble aun estando en un desierto,, yo jugué de las salidas verdes, con 12 hcp. y el juego estuvo muy bien, los verdes muy bien un poco difícil.
Desert oasis
First time in the area, we found this resort course on Golfnow when checking for Palm Springs. It was a great find- we stayed at the Mariott resort as well. Staff was very friendly, full practice facility. Great course layout with undulating greens, especially for a desert course. Faldo design is loaded with bunkers. We really enjoyed the outing, would include this course for future trips.
Experience not up to expectations.
Staff were surly. Practice area was in exceptionally poor condition. Definatily the course was not manicured and in shabby condition compared to other better courses in the area. Try those courses and give this a miss.
Plenty of features that make it a great experience.
As always GolfNow got us on the course for less than half the course advertised price. Beautiful course that is well laid out offering target golf but enjoyable for the less skilled.
Shadow Ridge
Green undulations and sand bunkers abound, hole 13 shows a wicked side of N. Faldo's design - uphill dogleg left hidden in a raven. Challenging, greens fast and true, fun course cut from the desert with natural vegetation, a gem that winds through the Mariott with beautiful views, but not too close to resort bldgs to bother. The course provided GPS seemed a little off compared to laser.
Awesome course and in great condition
Challenging course, in great condition. Some challenges with kids playing on the resort course on 17 and 18. Enjoyed playing it and recommend it.
Great condition
Have played this course last 7 years while on vacation, it is currently in as good condition as ever.
Undulating greens
Greens and fairways - never a level lie. Fun. Course Marshall? Said we were a hole behind so we picked up on the hole (the couple the course paired us with were newbies) and a hole later the Marshall told us we were 10 minutes ahead of time.! We were not happy and confused.
Great experience
great golf experience, friendly helpful staff, excellent practice facilities, course well laid out and fun to play spacing between groups good will be back
Great golf experience
First time golfing at this course. Excellent staff great course and overall great experience will be back
A great challenge and lots of fun
Extremely well maintained and rewards fairway shots. Lots of bunkers and very severe undulating greens that really protects low scoring. Some short holes so don't be concerned about playing from the back tees. Likely one of the best courses in the Palm Springs area.
Hot day-Great course!
We had always wanted to play this course, but had never gotten around to it on previous trips to the PS area. We were not paired with anyone, probably due to the fact that it was expected to be close to 100 degrees that day and our tee time was 10:30.
A very alert, friendly and professional starter got us out during a lull, in front of a foursome. We played 14 holes without ever seeing anyone!
The property is absolutely beautiful, with water and gardens and native areas. You rarely see another hole from the one you're playing. I have played one other Faldo course, and he uses bunkers to intimidate, even when they are not in play. There is always a landing area you can reach if you study the yardage book-and often great risk/reward paths to the hole. Greens are huge, rolled perfectly, and there is only the occasional flat spot anywhere on the course.
This is my new favorite course in the area! The high quality of the course, coupled with the equally high quality of the people who run it made it a wonderful day for us. Even though it's a few dollars more than other good courses, we'll be back.
Good Course. Where's the Marshal?
This is the third time I've played Shadow Ridge in the last year and it might be the last time I play. Love the course. Really like the staff. It's hard to imagine a resort course on a weekend not have a Marshal patrol the pace.
I was playing as a twosome and had to wait on every hole behind a foursome. Not once did they acknowledge us to play through. We shouldn't have to skip a hole to speed up our round. Absolutely pathetic, Shadow Ridge.
Near Perfect Day on Shadow Ridge
We loved everything about this course. Very well-maintained and several interesting holes. It's too bad the starter, Jack, made us wait for a player who was late for his tee off time with the foursome ahead of us instead of letting us go in front of them as they played very slow. There was a big gap ahead of them and no marshall ever came along to speed them up. But for this, it would have been a perfect day and we will be back for sure.
Great Course
Lots of sand to avoid. Greens are very undulating, but fair.
Challenging resort course
Beautiful resort course, very difficult greens, apparently typical of a Nick Faldo Course. Staying out of the many huge sand traps is a challenge. Very friendly staff, not too busy, no waiting, could only have been better if I didn't have to count all of those putts!
One of the Best in the desert
Great track and in very good condition. The traps are large and very well maintained with lots of sand unlike other desert courses that tend to have dirt in the traps and are hard. The price is the only factor that reduces the number of rounds I play here on a visit. It would be great if they offered some packages.
