Shadow Ridge Golf Club
About
Nick Faldo brings his exacting, often critical eye to West Coast golf for the first time at this Shadow Ridge Golf Course in Palm Desert. Faldo wanted a design that forced a ton of strategic choices and the architect team of Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt delivered for him.
Options? You want options!
Ten of Shadow Ridge's 18 holes are doglegs. The towering Santa Rosa Mountains serve as backdrop. The tall native tawny grasses contrasts sharply with the white sand bunkering. But it's the golf choices that are likely to seize your attention at this 7,006-yard, par-71 course.
The finish alone is enough to rattle an average golfer to the bone. No. 17 is a 157-yard par 3 that puts the wind in your face and nothing but trouble straight ahead. There's a lake to carry, deep bunkers and a green that slants left to right like a wayward chalkboard. No. 18, a 446-yard par-4, places both a stream and big fairway bunkers right in the straightest path to the green.
"The fairways are generous and the bunkering style is bold," Faldo said. "And the greens have plenty of subtle undulations that reward and encourage a variety of approach shots."

Beautiful resort Photo submitted by MagecD on 10/08/2012
Beautiful
This course is one of the nicest we have golfed in Palm Springs. The staff was extremely friendly from the time we registered at the pro shop to the bag guy! We had lunch and it was very tasty and appealing! We will definitely play this course again and make the time to play 18 holes. Would highly recommend this course.
Beautiful course
This is the 2nd year I've played this course, both times it has been in immaculate condition. I will admit though that I liked the JW Marriott Valley course more for the same price. Although play was very slow here, it is a great deal on golfnow and well worth it.
Great course
Had a great day on the course.Wife don't play much but course was not super hard so she enjoyed it.
Awesome
One of the best Resort courses in the area. Don't pass up an opportunity to play this course.
This course was fun to play
Great resort course interesting and fun to play. Great course conditions and large undulating greens which were very challenging with the pin placements.
super bowl sunday
Got out early and got 18 in thanks to Super Bowl. Club house and restaurant was nice. Range balls were a bit beat up.
Canadians
The condition of the course was super , the excellent location and course layout
well prepared course ... with greens in excellent conditions
the quality of the course and greens were excellent as were the practice facilities which included chipping and short carry areas
Beautiful course and great condition
Great golf course. I play several times per week at private club and frequently away on trips throughout USA and Mexico. This course rates in my top 10. Bunkers are a little excessive and greens are difficult to read otherwise course friendly. . Would definitely return.
Frost on the pumpkin
In spite of a very unusual frost delay, we thoroughly enjoyed our round. The staff really hustled to move players out onto the course and to keep play moving after a 1 hour + delay in tee times. As far as the course itself goes, it was in excellent condition, though the greens are a bit severe for the average golfer.
great course
Had a frost delay. 739 am tee time delayed an hour. December mornings can be cold here. They take good care of the course. Beautiful course and scenery.
quiet course within city
The best Marriot course in the area. Quiet and very beautiful. well maintained
High Level Desert Golf
This was the 15th different course we played I the Cochella Valley in 3 years. It was magnificent! It was a great 18 with variety and clarity. Its a golf course that uses taller trees with wide spacing between allowing the mountain views through or just above the trees. A very picturesque place.
Difficulty was minimal but worthy of most.
Fantastic!
Absolutely stunning, unlimited use of the range, fantastic course, and a course staff that was just amazing! Will definitely play this course again this week and make sure to come back twice each trip I take down to Palm Springs from now on!
Not Impressed
When I booked the tee time I had hoped for a desert course with outstanding beauty. For the price I paid I assumed I was going to get that. This is no La Quinta or Silver Rock etc. Greens are not all that either.
Fabulous course!
Nick Faldo has created a masterpiece. I have an 18 handicap and have played many of the country's top courses. What I particularly like about Shadow Ridge is that it is friendly to higher handicap players (wide fairways and manageable rough) yet very challenging and visually beautiful. The large strategically placed bunkers make one think about placement on every shot. I've played courses that have more flower beds and waterfalls for beautifying – Faldo allows nature to do that. Most of the holes are like a walk in a pristine park surrounded by mature desert plants and trees. There are a nice variety of short medium and long holes with plenty of visually interesting landscape features. This is undoubtedly my favorite course of the twenty or more courses I've played in the Coachella Valley. I played 36 holes there yesterday and loved every bit of it. ($60 replay). Somewhat pricey, but worth it if you value great golf courses.
Great experience
Well maintained, friendly staff, good pace of play, user friendly
Great course!
First time we played here. We will be back. Fun to play.
Fun Course, but a bit tricked up
Great value at $75, but not at $150. Bunkering was silly at times, not challenging. Greens had too much slope for average golfer to putt with less than 40 per round. Nice layout (bunkers excepted) and enjoyable for us, but not our playing partners.
Shadow ridge holf
Excellent condition, our favorite course in the valley, a must play
