Shadow Ridge Golf Club
About
Nick Faldo brings his exacting, often critical eye to West Coast golf for the first time at this Shadow Ridge Golf Course in Palm Desert. Faldo wanted a design that forced a ton of strategic choices and the architect team of Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt delivered for him.
Options? You want options!
Ten of Shadow Ridge's 18 holes are doglegs. The towering Santa Rosa Mountains serve as backdrop. The tall native tawny grasses contrasts sharply with the white sand bunkering. But it's the golf choices that are likely to seize your attention at this 7,006-yard, par-71 course.
The finish alone is enough to rattle an average golfer to the bone. No. 17 is a 157-yard par 3 that puts the wind in your face and nothing but trouble straight ahead. There's a lake to carry, deep bunkers and a green that slants left to right like a wayward chalkboard. No. 18, a 446-yard par-4, places both a stream and big fairway bunkers right in the straightest path to the green.
"The fairways are generous and the bunkering style is bold," Faldo said. "And the greens have plenty of subtle undulations that reward and encourage a variety of approach shots."

Beautiful resort Photo submitted by MagecD on 10/08/2012
great course
Had a frost delay. 739 am tee time delayed an hour. December mornings can be cold here. They take good care of the course. Beautiful course and scenery.
quiet course within city
The best Marriot course in the area. Quiet and very beautiful. well maintained
High Level Desert Golf
This was the 15th different course we played I the Cochella Valley in 3 years. It was magnificent! It was a great 18 with variety and clarity. Its a golf course that uses taller trees with wide spacing between allowing the mountain views through or just above the trees. A very picturesque place.
Difficulty was minimal but worthy of most.
Fantastic!
Absolutely stunning, unlimited use of the range, fantastic course, and a course staff that was just amazing! Will definitely play this course again this week and make sure to come back twice each trip I take down to Palm Springs from now on!
Not Impressed
When I booked the tee time I had hoped for a desert course with outstanding beauty. For the price I paid I assumed I was going to get that. This is no La Quinta or Silver Rock etc. Greens are not all that either.
Fabulous course!
Nick Faldo has created a masterpiece. I have an 18 handicap and have played many of the country's top courses. What I particularly like about Shadow Ridge is that it is friendly to higher handicap players (wide fairways and manageable rough) yet very challenging and visually beautiful. The large strategically placed bunkers make one think about placement on every shot. I've played courses that have more flower beds and waterfalls for beautifying – Faldo allows nature to do that. Most of the holes are like a walk in a pristine park surrounded by mature desert plants and trees. There are a nice variety of short medium and long holes with plenty of visually interesting landscape features. This is undoubtedly my favorite course of the twenty or more courses I've played in the Coachella Valley. I played 36 holes there yesterday and loved every bit of it. ($60 replay). Somewhat pricey, but worth it if you value great golf courses.
Great experience
Well maintained, friendly staff, good pace of play, user friendly
Great course!
First time we played here. We will be back. Fun to play.
Fun Course, but a bit tricked up
Great value at $75, but not at $150. Bunkering was silly at times, not challenging. Greens had too much slope for average golfer to putt with less than 40 per round. Nice layout (bunkers excepted) and enjoyable for us, but not our playing partners.
Shadow ridge holf
Excellent condition, our favorite course in the valley, a must play
Great condition resort course
This course was a great layout and more forgiving than others. It was still cart path only but we played in just over 4 hours . Greens were slower but rolled well. Definitely one I would recommend for a great round in the desert.
Heaven
My son and I call this course Heaven.
Always in great shape. The only thing that they need to do is buy new range balls.
Yup I really feel they need to change the name to. Heaven.
Mark & Mark
Excellent value
Great facilities, wide fairways, lots of sand traps, greens were new and slow.
Played first day open after overseeding. Was cart path only, but never even thought about it, because the course was beautiful.
Shadow Ridge Tuesday
Course was in fair shape, but was being readies for reseeding. Pace of play was good and greens were in good shape. Some bunkers are fairly deep but sand in good shape. Some water but can be avoided.
Overall a good day
Great layout, interesting holes
Tees, fairways and greens are excellent. A few years ago the greens were too fast but now they seem to be just right.
Short par 4s offer high risk options.
Good course
Course in very good conditions for this time of the year.
Fregat Faldo course
We've played on several Faldo courses all over the world and they are really different. Lots of Well guarded greens with deep bunkers ethisch play havoc with your score.
Worth the Premium
Course was in excellent condition. New sand in the traps with a few less traps to make the course more playable for 15-20 handicappers but still a challenge for stronger players.
Course has nice layout and just a good course
Very nice course
Quite challenging
Staff nice
Greens good
Played on summer $$, well worth it
Love It
First time playing here. Loved the conditions from the tee box, through the fairway, up to the green. Staff extremely courteous.
