Shadow Ridge Golf Club
About
Nick Faldo brings his exacting, often critical eye to West Coast golf for the first time at this Shadow Ridge Golf Course in Palm Desert. Faldo wanted a design that forced a ton of strategic choices and the architect team of Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt delivered for him.
Options? You want options!
Ten of Shadow Ridge's 18 holes are doglegs. The towering Santa Rosa Mountains serve as backdrop. The tall native tawny grasses contrasts sharply with the white sand bunkering. But it's the golf choices that are likely to seize your attention at this 7,006-yard, par-71 course.
The finish alone is enough to rattle an average golfer to the bone. No. 17 is a 157-yard par 3 that puts the wind in your face and nothing but trouble straight ahead. There's a lake to carry, deep bunkers and a green that slants left to right like a wayward chalkboard. No. 18, a 446-yard par-4, places both a stream and big fairway bunkers right in the straightest path to the green.
"The fairways are generous and the bunkering style is bold," Faldo said. "And the greens have plenty of subtle undulations that reward and encourage a variety of approach shots."

Course in Great Shape - Pace of Play Horrible!
I have played Shadow Ridge many times and it is a first class facility and golf course. Of all of the public courses in the desert, it is in the very best shape right now.
However, I quit after 9 holes as I was on caught up with a twosome at 8 and it took me 45 minutes to get through 8 and 9. After sitting on the 10th tee and watching 2 foursomes chop up the course for 20 minutes I decided to quit. Too bad and they should have a Marshall out there even though it is the summer out here. When I left the course after 9 holes, as a single my pace of play 2 hour and 20 minutes. Most of the other courses like the Marriott Desert Springs or the Westin I play 18 holes in 2 hours and 40 minutes.
We definitely will come again
We are mid-handicaper and booked this course at short notice for a round in the afternoon. The course itself is imbedded in a Marriott vacation facility and well maintained. Not difficult at all to play but sometimes challenging. As prior to our tee-time a group of children started the staff was exerted to find a hole were we could start to avoid stand by time. Thanks again for that.
My new favorite in Palm Springs area
I'm a 14 Handicap.
This is a beautifully landscaped facility in Palm Desert. Love the design! Could be extremely challenging from the tips. Generous, well-maintained fairways and wonderful, true-rolling greens. No funny trick undulations to frustrate your round. Faldo knows what he's doing.
Tip: In the summer play early in morning, say before 7:00am. Desert heat can be a serious problem towards end of round.
Course Amenities: A+
Great Summertime value
We had a great time and the summer pricing made it a great value. Luckily it wasn't blazing hot that day.
Excellent course, great value
Played 36 holes on Father's Day , course was wide open and in great condition. Course is challenging and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I visit Palm Springs every year and will definitely make this a must play course when I'm here.
very nice course
Play shadow ridge every year in June. Always enjoy the course. Good variety of tee choices. good challenge from the tips were I played and playable for my nephew who is a beginner from the forward tees. The condition of the course not as perfect as in the past but likely due to the drought. still very good shape
Challenging but fair course.
You can't go wrong at Shadow Ridge. The course is in good condition even in the off season.
Great Course!
Went to Palm Prings with 2 buddies to play a ton of golf for 5 days. We played all high end courses, as it was cheap because of the heat. Shadow Ridge was the favorie course for all of us! The layout is great, pretty forgiving off the tee box with wide fairways and then narrow and protected around the greens. It was a fantastic layout, especially for a group with low and high handicappers playing together. Next year it will be the first course we play
fast
very nice course staff was very friendly and helpful. a twosome at 6:45 played under 3 hours Great
Shadow Ridge
I have played this course 15-20 times over the last few years. This is the worst condition I have played at this facility. The greens were slow sandy and many ball marks. The fairways were thin and bare in places.
Great value
Excellent value for the discounted rate, conditions were excellent and fast play.
muy buen campo
El césped es increíble aun estando en un desierto,, yo jugué de las salidas verdes, con 12 hcp. y el juego estuvo muy bien, los verdes muy bien un poco difícil.
Desert oasis
First time in the area, we found this resort course on Golfnow when checking for Palm Springs. It was a great find- we stayed at the Mariott resort as well. Staff was very friendly, full practice facility. Great course layout with undulating greens, especially for a desert course. Faldo design is loaded with bunkers. We really enjoyed the outing, would include this course for future trips.
Experience not up to expectations.
Staff were surly. Practice area was in exceptionally poor condition. Definatily the course was not manicured and in shabby condition compared to other better courses in the area. Try those courses and give this a miss.
Plenty of features that make it a great experience.
As always GolfNow got us on the course for less than half the course advertised price. Beautiful course that is well laid out offering target golf but enjoyable for the less skilled.
Shadow Ridge
Green undulations and sand bunkers abound, hole 13 shows a wicked side of N. Faldo's design - uphill dogleg left hidden in a raven. Challenging, greens fast and true, fun course cut from the desert with natural vegetation, a gem that winds through the Mariott with beautiful views, but not too close to resort bldgs to bother. The course provided GPS seemed a little off compared to laser.
Awesome course and in great condition
Challenging course, in great condition. Some challenges with kids playing on the resort course on 17 and 18. Enjoyed playing it and recommend it.
Great condition
Have played this course last 7 years while on vacation, it is currently in as good condition as ever.
Undulating greens
Greens and fairways - never a level lie. Fun. Course Marshall? Said we were a hole behind so we picked up on the hole (the couple the course paired us with were newbies) and a hole later the Marshall told us we were 10 minutes ahead of time.! We were not happy and confused.
