The greens were in great condition
With all the rain we've had the course is in good condition. The greens were in great shape. The only problem with the course was none of the bunkers have been raked after the rain. Other than that it was a great round.
Nice green! Beautiful view!
Great condition especially after 3 days of heavy rain!
Slowest course in the bay area!
Its a nice course that is well kept with challenging greens but it is by far the slowest course in the bay. I have played this course no less that 10 times and have never gotten out under 5 hours. I haven't played it in a while and decided to give it a try on a Tuesday morning in January.. Yup.. Still 5 hours ans 10 minutes. On the weekends.. Forget about it!
A fun trek but always 5+ hours
This is an interesting trek and the back 9 by far better then the front.Problem is play is notoriously slow and even if you call the clubhouse and they send someone out it doesn't change anything. This last time out we were behind a twosome that was behind a fivesome that was behind a sixsome,I called the front desk he broke them up into two threesomes and a twosome and a threesome and in two holes they were back to how they were....our round 5 hours 40 mins and we didn't finish the 18th hole.So would I recommend this course....well if you have never played it, it is a great track and worth playing. Can I mindfully knowing the ridiculous time frame recommend it to a friend hard call probably not. There are too many great course out there that you can get a far better deal on that are as good or better with a 4 1/2 hour time frame like The Bridges that I would have to recommend instead.
Cold winter day but fun golf
Staff in pro shop and restaurant were top notch. Food and drinks were good, but wished that there was a cart that came around with hot coffee or drinks because it was so cold outside.
Course was in pretty good condition considering all the recent rain. But it was a slow round, we were waiting on shots most of the day.
I always recommend Callippe to friends as a place with a good layout, friendly staff, and good prices.
Fun course
This course is pretty fun starts off easy and by 18 its a challenge. Staff was good, lady in the bar could have been a little better but the starter was really cool.
Great layout
Course is in decent shape greens slowly get back to how they normal are. If you can get a decent price worth playing.
Great back nine
Great layout and really fun to play. Pace was average for a Sunday tee time 41/2 hrs to get around. The only draw back are the greens they were a bit too bumpy Great value and really nice layout with the back nine the highlight of the course
I will definitely give this track another go round.
5 1/2 Hour round + 30 Minute Delay NEVER AGAIN
Thought I'd sneak in a quick Wednesday morning round somewhere and found what appeared to be a good rate. I checked in 25 minutes early, putted and walked up to the starter about 10 minutes before my time, where he alerted me that a) they were running 20-30 minutes behind and b) we'd be lucky to finish under 5 hours. UNACCEPTBALE - the clubhouse did not alert me to this and I certainly didn't plan to spend 6.5 hours at the course. No marshalls in sight, no one trying to get groups back on 4.5 hour pace and the course seemed completely unaware that there was any issue. Never again Callipe. I'll be emailing the GM for a refund. Unacceptable.
Callippe
It was during aeration fix, so I played back nine twice. The fairways was decent even in the light of dry season.
General Review
Course condition is not at its best. I've seen this golf course in pristine condition, like I was playing in Palm Springs. Course layout is definitely the best factor to keep coming back to Callippe. They need to put better signage to hole directions though.
It would be nice to play this course at a lower price without going through Golfnow.com. The fee is too high now.
Drought has taken its toll.
I guess that a 5 1/4 hour round is considered normal these days, but it's still very frustrating.
The fairways are in pretty deplorable condition. A tee shot to the middle of the fairway is just as likely to land on sun-baked clay as on grass. It's a shame because with more water and improved maintenance, it could be a beautiful course.
I was also disappointed with basic maintenance such as on-course water jugs. On the back nine, one jug was empty and on two others, the valve was broken so you couldn't get any water out (temperature was 90 degrees).
There happened to be an outdoor wedding at the clubhouse, wwhich meant the restaurant and bar were closed to the public and loud hip hop music could be heard all over the course.
Finally, with heavy traffic both going and returning, the 60 mile round trip from San Jose just wasn't worth it.
Callippe Preserve. Top 5 public or private
Callippe Preserve. Agreed upon to be one of the top 5 public courses in northern California, if not all of California is accurate.
Great lay out , all the. course is in front of you.
The only downfall in my opinion was a couple of holes had dry burnt fairways due to the heat. Greens were excellent and I will definitely play here again. Great value for the buck.
Ridiculously awesome
It was a great day on a great golf course. Good conditions. A little spendy but honestly worth it. Greens roll true and very undulating. Will visit again
Working on getting better
I have to say I have played this course twice and the first time was not great but that is only because i have never played a challenge course until then. So I had to go back and give it another try at it and the turn out was better shot a 69 and talk about getting focus was great.
