Very challenge but if you hit good shots, you really feel good about it at this course!

Everything was great but for a Mon, it took almost 6hrs to play! Tee off at 1052(maybe close to 11)and finish at 445p.....plus group behind us hit into us 3 times---one went over my head!!! There was no where to go as we were keeping up with group in front--finally had to yell at them--couple of young fellows...

Great Course, Tough Greens

The course is beautiful, in a peaceful surrounding. Course conditions were very good. Be prepared for tough putting as the greens undulate at extremes and when I played, some pin placements were on crests.

Need Local Knowledge

Callippe Preserve is a very challenging course. You need to play it several times to know how to play it and where everything is. The course and the greens were in very good shape. There is plenty of undulations on these greens. The front side plays easier than the back side. There are plenty of carries over creeks and steep hills. The course requires some careful shot placement. The natural areas are closed to golfers, so you can't look for your wayward shot.

The weather was excellent the day we played and the hills were green. Very nice.

Be sure you look at the 18th fairway from the first tee. The information will come in handy.

Watch out for the old man on the 16th hole!

Pace of play was excellent and golf course is in good conditioned. This golf course requires controlled shot from your tee and to you approach also helps knowing where not to miss the green otherwise your short game will be challenge. The golf experience was excellent until we've reach the 16th hole when a marshal warned us to park carts on the designated area only. This cart path is also a private driveway of an extremely rude & confrontational old man so watch out!

2nd half is more difficult

I got more than 5 roundings here.
This course is not for beginners. There are a lot of hazards, creeks, up & downs that even bogies cannot manipulate well. Greens have various undulation.
Especially, 2nd half is much more difficult. You may have 2~5 more hits than the 1st 9.
My overall evaluation of this course is saying as good as Tournament of Coyote or even Cinnabar Hills(Cinnabar is somewhat better).

Another 5 1/2 hour round

I have played this course several times, and despite my frustration with the pace of play I continue to try it out because of the overall layout and location. Its an interesting and challenging layout with decent greens. Overall the course conditions are on par with other muni's and a good value. The downside to this course is its pace of play. I have never finished a round in better than 5 hours. They stack people up on tee times and do not have any marshals to monitor pace of play. Its always amazing to me to see how slow some of the groups are and inconsiderate of anybody else on the course. We did manage to finish in the dark but it was like a death march in front of us waiting on every shot. Other than that this course has great potential.

Fun Course-Great Shape

Visiting from Los Angeles, I wasn't sure what to expect. It turned out to be one of the best courses for the value, hands down. Although it was 40 degrees, the course was in great shape and it was a really fun round. If you hit your tee shots in the right zones, you get some really good, golf shot approaches. The kind the complete stranger, who is now your golf buddy says, "that's a golf shot". The two finishing holes are good, but brutal. The staff was unremarkable but the course made up for it. It was also freezing cold at 9am the day after Christmas. I can't wait to come back in the spring time.

I'll be back

Got a great deal by paying 50% in advance ($50 pp).
Course was in great shape and had a wonderful time. 2 or 3 groups in front of us I understand were very slow and never saw a Marshall to get them moving.
I'll be back.

Challenging Local Course Fun to Play

Played as a single on a Tuesday at 10:30 and paired up for a foursome. Weather was great, no wind, and pace of play was much better than usual at just over 4 hours. Recent rains have somewhat improved fairways, but not enough to avoid hitting off packed dirt on numerous par-4, 5 holes (nothing new for east bay this year). The greens were in excellent condition and pin placement was especially tough, forcing many putts from above the hole with sharp breaks. Course layout has much elevation change, especially the back nine, so I strongly recommend riding a cart . Great combination of long/short par-3s, with numerous par-4,5s requiring carries over barrancas with careful club selection. No two holes play the same, each challenging and fun to play. Shot distance control is important on many shots and it is great that the carts are equipped with GPS and monitors. Highly recommend the course, although pace of play on the weekends can be brutal.
