5 1/2 Hour round + 30 Minute Delay NEVER AGAIN
Thought I'd sneak in a quick Wednesday morning round somewhere and found what appeared to be a good rate. I checked in 25 minutes early, putted and walked up to the starter about 10 minutes before my time, where he alerted me that a) they were running 20-30 minutes behind and b) we'd be lucky to finish under 5 hours. UNACCEPTBALE - the clubhouse did not alert me to this and I certainly didn't plan to spend 6.5 hours at the course. No marshalls in sight, no one trying to get groups back on 4.5 hour pace and the course seemed completely unaware that there was any issue. Never again Callipe. I'll be emailing the GM for a refund. Unacceptable.
Callippe
It was during aeration fix, so I played back nine twice. The fairways was decent even in the light of dry season.
General Review
Course condition is not at its best. I've seen this golf course in pristine condition, like I was playing in Palm Springs. Course layout is definitely the best factor to keep coming back to Callippe. They need to put better signage to hole directions though.
It would be nice to play this course at a lower price without going through Golfnow.com. The fee is too high now.
Drought has taken its toll.
I guess that a 5 1/4 hour round is considered normal these days, but it's still very frustrating.
The fairways are in pretty deplorable condition. A tee shot to the middle of the fairway is just as likely to land on sun-baked clay as on grass. It's a shame because with more water and improved maintenance, it could be a beautiful course.
I was also disappointed with basic maintenance such as on-course water jugs. On the back nine, one jug was empty and on two others, the valve was broken so you couldn't get any water out (temperature was 90 degrees).
There happened to be an outdoor wedding at the clubhouse, wwhich meant the restaurant and bar were closed to the public and loud hip hop music could be heard all over the course.
Finally, with heavy traffic both going and returning, the 60 mile round trip from San Jose just wasn't worth it.
Callippe Preserve. Top 5 public or private
Callippe Preserve. Agreed upon to be one of the top 5 public courses in northern California, if not all of California is accurate.
Great lay out , all the. course is in front of you.
The only downfall in my opinion was a couple of holes had dry burnt fairways due to the heat. Greens were excellent and I will definitely play here again. Great value for the buck.
Ridiculously awesome
It was a great day on a great golf course. Good conditions. A little spendy but honestly worth it. Greens roll true and very undulating. Will visit again
Working on getting better
I have to say I have played this course twice and the first time was not great but that is only because i have never played a challenge course until then. So I had to go back and give it another try at it and the turn out was better shot a 69 and talk about getting focus was great.
Decent course but greens rough
Teh course overall was in decent shape. There were some less than green areas but that is to be expected when conserving water. My big complaint is that players were not repairing their ball marks so the greens were getting beat up and very bumpy. our group was repairing as we go but players need to learn more than just how to hit a ball. Maintaining a course is the players responsibility as well as the course staff.
A Bay Area favorite shines bright
As a former resident of Pleasanton, I try to get in a round there whenever I visit. The course did not disappoint as it is in fantastic condition. The greens are in the best shape I can remember. It is a tough layout that will challenge any golfer. Shots on this course require some thought or you will be looking for balls or hitting extra shots. This can contribute to the pace of play. Not a problem when we played as we were finished in 3 and 1/2 hours. The restaurant food is very good and they have several nice craft beers on tap. All of these good things and it cost me $20. It doesn't get better than this.
gr8rig
Course is in great shape. Greens rolling true.
Price is little to high.
Nice outing
love the course, the fairways were lush, the greens were smooth
Course was fine, but the staff.....
Ive played this course many times. It's a fun & challenging track. My only issue is the food service staff. The last few times, with yesterday being the latest, they seem out of touch & rude. How wants to deal with a rude person at the turn or after the round. It's mainly Melanie, she seems to not want to be there & projects it loudly.
Enjoy the course, but avoid the restaurant if you don't want to risk being thrown completely off your game by someone that hasn't made a single birdie.
I've had horrible back nines because I think it's crazy to deal with rudeness while spending my hard earned $. Thanks, but no thanks.
Great condition's
The course was in great shape, greens were excellent, layout is what Callippe is all about!
The only problem was the pace of play and too many groups out too fast!
I think the management needs to address this ASAP !
Awesome coarse
this is in great shape, very challenging. back 9 is tough but fun.
Perfect Conditions
First time playing this challenging course to a mid handicapper, but played with 2 guys who had been there before and of course the in cart GPS helps a lot. Beautiful course, views, greens, tee areas all in pristine condition after nice wet winter but rough all cut down so can find loose balls. 18th hole finally got me but played 17 well just have to remember to hit those uphill putts much harder.
Play The Same Nine Twice
Turns out the pricing was good, playing the front nine twice was bad - never have I paid a lower price during an aeration process and played the same nine twice. Poor policy, won't be playing at this course any time soon!
AWESOME!
I love playing here. The driving range is awesome. Grass tees are usually in good shape. The food is awesome and the staff is excellent. Pace of play is great during the week. Course is in great shape always.
The course design encourages slow play with its short par 4s and pat 5. That accompanied with sending groups out every 8 minutes is a recipe for 5+ hour rounds.
