Colonial Heritage Club
About
Colonial Heritage Golf Club offers the only Arthur Hills-designed layout in Williamsburg, and it is also the city's only gated golf community. Golfers looking for a place where they can just 'grip it and rip it' will be out of luck on this course, which requires skill and strategy. It is a thought-provoking design where golfers will want to weigh all of the risk and reward options first. The layout plays through deep ravines that provide interesting changes in elevation. The golf course also features undulating fairways and large, fast greens that are bordered by strategically placed bunkers as well as water hazards that come into play on several holes. Colonial Heritage G.C. definitely provides a good challenge, even for a seasoned player, but beginners shouldn't feel too intimidated. The golf course offers some room for error and the risk-reward opportunities appeal to low and high handicappers alike.

It's not easy to get on the green on the par-3 14th but if you do, you've got a great birdie opportunity. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 03/11/2020

Nice day nice course
1st time in the area, had decent reviews so we played it. Layout was really nice, greens were decent despite being recently sanded. #6 on the front and #16 on the back were really challenging.. definitely have to be able to land on a number. We played the front with 2 ladies that were members and that was helpful as far as having some direction. The back we were on our own and the pace was much better...
Great Golf Course
Great golfing experience . Even though we've had rain in the past few days , the course was still in great shape . One of my favorite Golf course to play . Some very challenging holes , but overall a very fair test of one's golfing abilities .
Great Course
Course completely booked yet pace of play was great, even as this course is pretty difficult.
Course is in great shape. You can get into a lot of trouble but there are few hidden obstacles. It allows you to either hit or miss the fairway or other targets without surprising you with unseen problems.
Course plays considerably longer than the yardage indicates and we were warned of this by the starter. Believe that warning!!
Could have been fun
The course was in great shape, it had some very difficult holes and I am a 10 hadicap. What ruined it was the pace of play. It took over 2 hours to play 8 holes. This was caused by groups playing from tees they had no business playing from. The pro shop let us know which tees to play from only because we asked. I saw them groups off in front of us with no recommendation of tee selection and of course they was no Marshall.
BEST COURSE IN VIRGINIA - AND ONE OF MY FAVORITES ANYWHERE
I've played all the courses within 20 miles of Portsmouth, Virginia, and many courses in the Northeast through the Northcountry Pro Am and Maine State Golf Association. Colonial Heritage is as good as the best the Northeast has to offer and is far better than anything in the area around Portsmouth, VA. Colonial Heritage offers an experience on par with Sunday River and Belgrade Lakes in Maine, A fabulous layout surrounded by changing topography, wildlife, and botanical specimens. The Pro shop made our experience special even on a day when the course sawe more than 200 golfers. While I love to walk courses, the provided electric carts are a necessity for navigating some of the steep inclines. Take the time to talk to the staff and get the latest scoop on what's going to help you play the game. THe holes get more challenging as you play. The last 5 holes will challenge you in ways you cannot imagine.
I LOVE THIS COURSE.
P.S. Traffic to Williamsburg, from the north or south, is almost always backed up. Double the time you think you need to arrive for your tee time.
Colonial Heritage; A good day
This is the 3rd time I've played here, and it won't be the last. This Arthur Hills design is very enjoyable and challenging. There are no boring or repetitive holes, and the natural terrain (creeks, ponds, wetlands and ravines) and elevation changes, keep the challenge going. Despite the greens being aerrated ( which was not noted on website) this was an enjoyable day. Bill Wallace.
Must Play
I loved this course. I recommend everyone to play this course. scenery and layout was one of the best I have ever played. Don't miss the opportunity.
Aeration
Coarse was very good. Wish I had known they had just aerated the greens.
Worth playing twice
Great course and very challenging.
Nice tight layout
Love the course, fairways are narrow and winding, traps are thick sand, greens are perfect.
Best course in Virginia
I've played a lot of courses and this one was in exceptional shape and very challenging. If your visiting Williamsburg you have to golf here.
Everything was first rate
The course is in top condition. It plays longer than indicated, so bring your A game. A tough, but enjoyable day.
Great Course
I've played here a few times. Usually it's pretty slow, but I got lucky this last time. Fairways and Greens and Tee boxes were very well maintained. Felt like a private course. The only reason I give it four instead of five is because there are three or four holes that are just ridiculously hard, and because this course is in a retirement community (though you don't see many houses), I imagine that's why I'm usually waiting on the tee box. But, like I said, this time was different, and maybe they're starting to move people along a lot quicker.
Great layout, in great condition.
Wife and I played on a beautiful 80 degree day. The staff was friendly as always, and the pace of play was good. Dramatic elevation changes and plenty of risk/reward opportunities make this course special. No two holes are alike. Highly recommend this course to intermediate and advanced golfers. Only a long hitter would play from the tips. Unless you can drive 280 (260 flight), play it from the blues. I am 69, play 8-10 times per month. I've played it from the blues normally, but tried the whites this time. Scored better from the forward tees but prefer the blue tees for the tee shot challenge.
Challenging but fair
I played the course towards the end of April. I was visiting my former college golf coach who is now the pro at Colonial Heritage.
Colonial Heritage offers fantastic practice facilities. I don't get the chance to play everyday, so it was great having a range, short game facility, and practice green to work on the swing/stroke before the round.
The course itself is challenging but fair and with the multiple tee setup, can be played by any handicapper. The course layout is great offering challenging tee shots and approach shots. There were only two holes which I thought could have a better layout.
The staff were professional and the pro offers some good advice.
Thanks for having us Aaron!
very nice
had some challenging holes, kind of fun
COLONIAL HERITAGE
AWESOME COURSE !!!!! WOULD PLAY EVERYDAY
Very challenging course
We had a great time. Course is very hilly and you should definitely play the set of tees recommended for your handicap level. Many greens are quite large so pay attention to the pin sheet. A rangefinder or course GPS is a grows help.
Great, challenging course
My wife and I played this beautiful and challenging course and it was in perfect condition from tees to fairways to greens. The layout is beautiful with scenic rides between holes. Quite hilly and undulating which heightened the challenge. Quite a few forced carries to contend with. The staff is very friendly and helpful from the Pro Shop to Starter to the grounds crew. Will definitely play again
Course green and dry
Course in great shape. Down to see the LPGA at Kingsmill , so went down day early to try a course been told very challenging . Really did not think it play long , even with all the rain got some movement off our drives and were surprised how well the greens were rolling. Greens make it more challenging than the layout. Multi tiers and really need pay attention flag location. Only thing is love a natural , wooded course and this is for the most part played in neighborhood setting . Like the course thou and will play again when in the area.
