Colonial Heritage Golf Club offers the only Arthur Hills-designed layout in Williamsburg, and it is also the city's only gated golf community. Golfers looking for a place where they can just 'grip it and rip it' will be out of luck on this course, which requires skill and strategy. It is a thought-provoking design where golfers will want to weigh all of the risk and reward options first. The layout plays through deep ravines that provide interesting changes in elevation. The golf course also features undulating fairways and large, fast greens that are bordered by strategically placed bunkers as well as water hazards that come into play on several holes. Colonial Heritage G.C. definitely provides a good challenge, even for a seasoned player, but beginners shouldn't feel too intimidated. The golf course offers some room for error and the risk-reward opportunities appeal to low and high handicappers alike.

wish it was summer

greens had just been aerated, which made putting very difficult. still early in the season so fairways etc are still brown because of the bermuda grass being dormant. When in season this course would be alot of fun to play.

fantastic course....tough time the first time

great golf course and extremely challenging. starter said to play from the whites but it was barely 6,000 yards. i decided to play from he green which is 6400+ yards and it was as much as i could handle. lots of great holes and another course you need to play a few times on where to hit it.

bring your A game

this course started out not overly challenging but after the third hole , thing get very precise with tight fairways that are mostly elevated with wooded ravines on the sides and almost every hole had a ravine too carry I started on the blues but had to switch to the whites was having a hard time carrying the ravines (got tired of losing balls lol) good course if your aim is fairly tight

Opening vacation round

Nice track. Cold conditions with dormant Bermuda but the greens rolled true and quick considering time of year. Would definitely play again.

Amazing & Unique Course

This course has it all. It has many holes that inspire you to hit your tee balls with the right amount of launch angle due to it's forced carries. Greens were in great condition for this time of year. I'm not normally a fan of mountain type course layouts, but I find myself coming back time and again.

Golf get away

Overall great day of golf. Pace of play was an issue, but that was due to the group ahead. It is off season and the marshal had lots of ground to cover. Still a good round.

Nice, but tough

Course was in great shape, lots of elevation changes and forced carries.Starter recommended playing shorter yardage due to the difficult nature of the course, and it was a good idea.

Colonial Heritage Williamsburg.

was greeted by club pro as I made my way to clubhouse. Informed me that our group would be teeing of 30 minutes later then our times, but we would be doing a modified shotgun. Thought great, also told me our group would get a complimentary beverage and free range balls. This is where there was a lack of communication. wished the pro had informed the guys at the register and clubhouse. there seem to be a lack of communication amongst themselves. Golf course was in very good condition, ranger informed us that it was playing long, it did not. So we played the wrong tees, but that was ok. Major issue here was the clubhouse, no food, no ice, no crackers, no beer. In fact the draft beer tasted bad, I work in the beer industry, so have some knowledge in this field. If you are just going to play golf, great place, if you want to include some food and beer, not such a great place.

Nice day nice course

1st time in the area, had decent reviews so we played it. Layout was really nice, greens were decent despite being recently sanded. #6 on the front and #16 on the back were really challenging.. definitely have to be able to land on a number. We played the front with 2 ladies that were members and that was helpful as far as having some direction. The back we were on our own and the pace was much better...

Great Golf Course

Great golfing experience . Even though we've had rain in the past few days , the course was still in great shape . One of my favorite Golf course to play . Some very challenging holes , but overall a very fair test of one's golfing abilities .

Great Course

Course completely booked yet pace of play was great, even as this course is pretty difficult.

Course is in great shape. You can get into a lot of trouble but there are few hidden obstacles. It allows you to either hit or miss the fairway or other targets without surprising you with unseen problems.

Course plays considerably longer than the yardage indicates and we were warned of this by the starter. Believe that warning!!

Could have been fun

The course was in great shape, it had some very difficult holes and I am a 10 hadicap. What ruined it was the pace of play. It took over 2 hours to play 8 holes. This was caused by groups playing from tees they had no business playing from. The pro shop let us know which tees to play from only because we asked. I saw them groups off in front of us with no recommendation of tee selection and of course they was no Marshall.

BEST COURSE IN VIRGINIA - AND ONE OF MY FAVORITES ANYWHERE

I've played all the courses within 20 miles of Portsmouth, Virginia, and many courses in the Northeast through the Northcountry Pro Am and Maine State Golf Association. Colonial Heritage is as good as the best the Northeast has to offer and is far better than anything in the area around Portsmouth, VA. Colonial Heritage offers an experience on par with Sunday River and Belgrade Lakes in Maine, A fabulous layout surrounded by changing topography, wildlife, and botanical specimens. The Pro shop made our experience special even on a day when the course sawe more than 200 golfers. While I love to walk courses, the provided electric carts are a necessity for navigating some of the steep inclines. Take the time to talk to the staff and get the latest scoop on what's going to help you play the game. THe holes get more challenging as you play. The last 5 holes will challenge you in ways you cannot imagine.

I LOVE THIS COURSE.

P.S. Traffic to Williamsburg, from the north or south, is almost always backed up. Double the time you think you need to arrive for your tee time.

Colonial Heritage; A good day

This is the 3rd time I've played here, and it won't be the last. This Arthur Hills design is very enjoyable and challenging. There are no boring or repetitive holes, and the natural terrain (creeks, ponds, wetlands and ravines) and elevation changes, keep the challenge going. Despite the greens being aerrated ( which was not noted on website) this was an enjoyable day. Bill Wallace.
