Colonial Heritage Club
About
Colonial Heritage Golf Club offers the only Arthur Hills-designed layout in Williamsburg, and it is also the city's only gated golf community. Golfers looking for a place where they can just 'grip it and rip it' will be out of luck on this course, which requires skill and strategy. It is a thought-provoking design where golfers will want to weigh all of the risk and reward options first. The layout plays through deep ravines that provide interesting changes in elevation. The golf course also features undulating fairways and large, fast greens that are bordered by strategically placed bunkers as well as water hazards that come into play on several holes. Colonial Heritage G.C. definitely provides a good challenge, even for a seasoned player, but beginners shouldn't feel too intimidated. The golf course offers some room for error and the risk-reward opportunities appeal to low and high handicappers alike.

It's not easy to get on the green on the par-3 14th but if you do, you've got a great birdie opportunity. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 03/11/2020

championship course
Course is one of the nicest most challenging courses I have ever played staff was very friendly very clean when you play hear you better bring your A game greens are fast rough is thick sand pits are bigit is trtruly a championship course
difficult
Greens were under repair, fairways were brown, but still in great shape. Very difficult course, a few blind shots, but always fun to play.
If you like variety
I titled this review "If you like variety" because this course stands out....I normally play several courses around Richmond because I like a different experience that each course brings.
This course was good for this!
Conditions were better than I expected (courses have been closed due to snow, and this was "opening day" since the snowstorm). It was wet, but the greens were in good condition. Lots of soggy fairways, so you were able to take a few "standing water" drops. They paired me with a group of low handicappers who usually played all the local courses...they told me "this is our favorite...it's usually in GREAT condition.......and because this area is the highest point in W'burg, the wind presents an extra challenge."
Staff was friendly......
Interesting that this course is in an over 55 community....there are some pretty intimidating forced carries that I won't enjoy when I'm in my seventies!
I don't think you could walk this course......some holes had some long rides between.....but it would be a fun walking course if time was no issue.....lots of elevation changes, beautiful scenery.
What a great layout...
The course offers a 25 dollar round quite often and we finally took the drive over to play it. Food was perfect, (sliders), course is dormant in the fairways being January, but the greens were great, as were the tee boxes. Range was closed due to all the rain/sleet/snow we have gotten so there is not a lot of drain off yet, but WOW, what a great track. Really.
Prolly not a good candidate for walking it, at least the back nine anyway.
Staff was fantastic. I will certainly be heading back to the course in the summer to see it in all it's glory...
Al Ragge
This is a fantastic course. Spectacular signature holes. Excellent greens, and fairways. Friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating staff everywhere, i.e. in the club house, pro shop, and range. A real Gem! I can hardly wait to play it again. It has some holes where you can let it rip, and some holes you need to use your head or it will reach up and bit you. All the greens hold extremely well. Your going to love this course no matter how you play, because you can't help commenting on its beauty as you play it.
Visually stunning, amazing quality, difficult.
By far one of the most beautiful courses I've played in Virginia. Everything from the condition of the course, to the faculty and staff was amazing. PGA Tour quality practice center, all the balls you can hit included with round. Not friendly at all to high handicappers. Lots of bunkers, forced carries, blind tee shots, and thick rough. Greens are lightning fast and undulated. You're punished for missing the fairway by the slightest margin. High elevation, and plays extremely long. You've got to use your brain when playing this course, no grip it and rip it here. Worth the pain and suffering if you are a high handicapper just to see how beautiful this course is! Have fun.
Great fall value
Greens were in excellent shape. Couple of groups playing multiple mulligans and ball hawking made the round longer than it should have been but overall a great place to play golf
recent round
Nice course, good shape. Hard to beat for the money.
Play this course!
What's not to like? This course and all of the staff we encountered were fantastic. Start to finish, this course has to be one of the best I've played. The practice area was huge! The practice green was immaculate and fast. We soon found out that every green was just as fast! The use of the driving range was included in the fees. The range was in great shape too! The course was challenging indeed! I am a high handicap, but I loved the challenge! My playing partner had visited here a week earlier and was so impressed, he recommended this course to me. Put this course on your list of places to play.
Must Play
The pratice facility is amazing and it comes with your round so no extra cost there. PGA greens will test your skills on the putting surface. Make sure you take advantage of them so get there early. The course is in great shape challenging on all levels of play. Its a must play for any golfer !!
Colonial Heritage
Great value!!!! Wonderful course layout and in perfect condition.
Enjoyed this round of golf
Challenging if not use to playing a hilly course. A few of the holes were quit challenging.. Had to cross deep gorge a few times. Needed a good long ball.
Part of Golf trip
Real nice track....my wife did not like as well. Possibly the forced carry's. some really great golf holes, but overall a fair course to play. Great condition.....best conditioned course in the area and we played 6 of them.
Slow play
Beautiful layout, tough with a lot of blind shots. Took us 5 hrs to play and no Marshall to move things along. Talked to pro shop and there response was that the starter was too busy to be the starter and Marshall. I asked why the Marshall is also the starter, and they stated that is the way they do it. I recommended they pay for a separate Marshall.
I don't recommend this course.
Beautiful course
Beautiful course and we'll maintained. Long hauls on the back nine, so make sure you have plenty of time. The grass in the rough is long enough you'll have a run for your money finding your ball, so do your best to keep it on the fairway.
WOW! Believe what you read!
Everything about the facilities were first class. Great driving range, outstanding short game area, and a putting green that should have foretold what lied ahead. As well maintained a course as I have ever been on. Loved the greens, thought they were bent but nobody in the clubhouse knew. Super difficult, but I repeat, WOW!
Extremely difficult and challenging
the course was in great condition and weather was excellent.Very difficult and challenging.I look forward to playing this cousre again.
Course very hard to play
No flat greens at all and where arrogated and some Blind holes and very hard to judge
Challenging course
Lots of blind shots. Some narrow driving holes. Course will test every shot in your bag.
Slow play epidemic! After close to two hours to play 6 holes we gave up
This is a great course! Challenging! You should have golf experience to play! Lots of forced carries and blind shots as well as narrow landing areas!
Trouble was from what we saw of the 10 golfers ahead of us none broke 110! Just bad timing I guess!
