Colonial Heritage Club
About
Colonial Heritage Golf Club offers the only Arthur Hills-designed layout in Williamsburg, and it is also the city's only gated golf community. Golfers looking for a place where they can just 'grip it and rip it' will be out of luck on this course, which requires skill and strategy. It is a thought-provoking design where golfers will want to weigh all of the risk and reward options first. The layout plays through deep ravines that provide interesting changes in elevation. The golf course also features undulating fairways and large, fast greens that are bordered by strategically placed bunkers as well as water hazards that come into play on several holes. Colonial Heritage G.C. definitely provides a good challenge, even for a seasoned player, but beginners shouldn't feel too intimidated. The golf course offers some room for error and the risk-reward opportunities appeal to low and high handicappers alike.

It's not easy to get on the green on the par-3 14th but if you do, you've got a great birdie opportunity. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 03/11/2020

Look at this, where do I hit the ball Photo submitted by Douglas5507193 on 10/16/2013
An absolutely hidden treasure
Although I had never heard about this course, with the other Williamsburg area courses touted seemingly all the time, I found this course to be a hidden treasure that must be experienced! My brother-in-law and I were teamed up with a single who had played the course previously and proved to be a great ambassador to guide us on our journey of wonderment. Elevation changes, carry shots and scenic nature sites, (a stand of deer), abounded as we traversed the course with the back nine proving the more difficult of the two nines. The weather is marked as good only because it was 90+ degrees, a little on the hot side for two retired duffers! Enjoy...
Great layout
Great course for the value. I'm playing again tomorrow as a single. Always meet a nice bunch of guys.
Great golf course in Williams burg
Me and my son played this course. We had to deal with late rain showers but the course held up and the weather let us finish 18 holes. Staff was outstanding getting us out earlier than designated tee time. Highly recommended this course.
Not my favorite.
Too many elevation changes and clown designed holes. Arthur Hills indeed. Lots of blind shots w few yardage markers and deep rough. Didn't help that we were just behind a shotgun scramble tourney. 5 hour round.
Great course, fairways need work
The course from the pro-shop to the practice facilities to the links is top notch. The fairways were in horrible shape. I was hoping to be in the rough off the tee, as the rough was in great shape. They definitely had some kind of issue with their fairways. I am not sure if it was due to the time of year, or other uncontrollable factors. But, when they get the fairways up to par, thsi is one of the best courses in the Williamsburg area, hands down.
You need all your clubs
It is not a course you have to hit it off the tee as far as you can.
It is a fair placement course and if you are playing it for the first time you will need a member to play with or a skycaddy that shows landing areas.
Very challenging
difficulty of the course
watch out for ditches or trenches when you hit your ball off the fairway or rough because the climb will get you. Just let your ball go as a unplayable and move on and enjoy your round.
Good Layout, REALLY slow play!!
We teed off at 8:50 and didn't finish until 2:10! It would've been nice to have been notified that the greens were recently aerated, or simply charge something less than full-rate.
I really liked the layout, although some of the holes are a little tricked up, IMO.
Nice track, but the pace of play makes it less than desirable for a return trip.
Beautiful day on a beautiful course
This was my first time playing this course. I've played other course in the area and I think this one has made it to the top 5 to date. Got a great price on GOLFNOW and couldn't pass up the opportunity. I would have rated the course higher but for the aeration of the greens. Upon arrival the facilities were clean and the staff members were pleasant and eager to help. We started on time and finished in four hours which was a good pace on this course. The first three holes are good warm ups for what's to come. Holes 4 and 5 will make you lose your mind; what a layout! Many tee shots over gorges and blind second lay-up shots to the greens. The greens were aerated and sanded, that's maybe why the price was as good as it was. The practice facility was well maintained and the practice greens were identical to the ones on the course. All-in-all I had a blast playing this course and will have my eyes on GOLFNOW for another opportunity to play it again, hoping to get another crack when the fare ways green up. Recently I've been playing a lot of courses in the VA Beach area because of good bargains, but if I can continue to see opportunities like this one on the peninsula the drive to courses on the south side, through the tunnel will be a road less travelled.
Thanks again GOLFOW and Colonial Heritage I hope to see you again soon.
Great course
Good course they were airing and told us before we got tee times . It is a difficult course with long carries if you play back two tee boxes.
Great course but needs a guide book
We had the first tee time of the day and had booked our round through GolfNow. The price included a cart and a balls at the range. The only issue we had was we arrived early enough to warm up at the range but we made it there before some of the staff. We ended up waiting for a cart to be pulled out and practice balls to be put out on the range. Once on the course, we quickly realized there were going to be some challenges as we didn't know the course, there was no course guide book provided, nor were the holes laid out on the scorecard (there was no way to know where the trouble areas were located and there are several blind shots that this information would have shaved a few shots had we not been forced to lay up). Otherwise, the carts were in great shape, the staff was super friendly, and the greens/fairways were immaculate. This would have been a 5-star review had we had an idea of where we should have played our shots on the blind holes.
Must Play!
Can't wait to come back in the fall, really love the layout! Great staff, all around great day!
Exceptional
Must play, even during dormant rough winter season. Can't wait to return for full complement of experience available.
Great Course, but slow play
Slow play is the only thing preventing 5 stars. Presumably it's the lay out that slowed things down during my round. Even though there were mostly two-somes on the course we had to wait for almost every shot.
Course was immaculate, with the exception of traps that were being renovated. Leaves were blown off greens and fairways which really helped.
Fun and challenging
This course is eye candy. It is definitely not as easy to finish as it is good to look at. It challenges you and like the gentleman I played with said you will lose balls if you think you can rip it here in the course. Plan your play. The greens are huge and challenging. The fairways are well maintained and decent amount of bunkers to keep you in check. I loved this Arthur hills course.
This course is fairly tough, and visually appealing.
The course was in very good condition, although fallen leaves on the more wooded holes made it tough finding your ball, even in the fairway. It is a shame that some people don't care to fix their ball marks on the greens, especially on the very nice, smooth rolling ones this course offers. We repaired several big ones in addition to our own on most holes. I had read reviews of the course, noting comments that balls were easily lost anywhere off the fairway, and that the purchase of a yardage book ($6) was advisable. I concur. I lost some balls just off the fairway in rough that was well maintained, and not all that tall. I'm still scratching my head on where they got to. On the other hand, I found as many nice name brand balls as I lost, so it's a wash. The yardage book, while pricey, is very helpful to a first time or infrequent visitor, and makes a nice souvenir. I'll keep it in my bag for my next round here, as I intend to play this course anytime I'm back in the area. Really, really beautiful, fun, and interesting course to play.
Nice range and practice area.
Loved the course. I expected a fairly level course for a retirement community, but was pleasantly surpised with the undulations throughout the course. Good consistent speed on the greens. Some narrow fairways, but there were also generous ones. Some appeared challenging, but a decent shot was allthat was needed. I would definitely play this ourse again if I am in the area. Pace of play could have been faster, but still enjoyed the course.
Course is challenging, a great test of golf
This is a great golf course, easily the best course in Williamsburg. Course was in great condition and the staff were very helpful and friendly.
Always slow pace of play
Difficult layout for average golfer, greens are consistently good, pace of play consistently very SLOW!
