The Links at Summerly
About
The Links at Summerly borders Lake Elsinore, southern California's largest natural lake. The Ortega Mountains and the Cleveland Natural Forest are also the golf course's neighbors. Although it feels nicely secluded, the Links are conveniently just minutes from Temecula. The design tumbles across a rolling terrain that is accented with 3 miles of Scottish-style burns. The natural mounding was deftly incorporated throughout the golf course. The rugged landscape, reminiscent of courses in the British Isles, gives it the look and feel of a traditional links layout. It is a formidable test that features heavily undulated fairways and an abundance of kidney-shaped bunkers. Although there are some tricky holes, each one was designed to offer several different playing strategies. Thought and imagination are required, but you will also have to use every club in your back to navigate the twists and turns of the Links at Summerly.

Extremely disappointed
I hate to bash this course because I know at one time it was great.. but it’s not even worth the time and money. The fairways are dirt. Greens aren’t horrible but they’re clearly in need of some attention. We actually skipped a few holes to avoid destroying our clubs on the hard dirt fairways. Bottom line you couldn’t pay me to play here again.
Nice day
Played here the last 2 weeks. Course is in ok condition. Last week felt like it was better somehow. Bunkers are unplayable, so just pull your ball out. Greens run reasonably true if you're not going through potmarks or damage. Tim is very friendly in the pro shop. Daniel is a little prickly. I came in to the parking lot after nine to grab a drink out of my car and he gave me the meanest look like I was trying to pull one over on him. After I said what I was doing and when my tee time was and what my name was he still questioned what I was doing. This course can't afford to be less than accomodating with the current course conditions, less than stellar reviews and lack of play, etc. Daniel is anything but helpful. The previous week, he wouldn't give me a ride to the first tee (I was walking and there were 3 people in the pro shop and I was the only group for an hour or so) nor fill up my water bottle as there aren't any drinking fountains/water coolers on the course:( I like playing this course as it's reasonably inexpensive, it has a great layout and fortunately for me/unfortunately for the course is relatively empty with play. The parking lot has been 1/4 full the last 2 Sundays and you get around in under 3.5 hours!
Excellent Links Course
Unique links layout. Plays fast, tight lies. Will challenge players of all levels. Greens are rolling great. Play smart, if you get greedy it will cost you!
Drought has taken a toll
Upon arrival staff checked me in and provided me a cart. Very efficient and helpful.
Links style course and that is exactly what it is. Flat, exposed to the wind, and instead of rough there were sand dunes and waste areas on both sides of every hole If you are crooked, bring lots of balls. Lots of sand bunkers but none of them are playable. Tee boxes are level and grass is still dormant. Fairways are extremely tight with short grass and dirt areas. Drought has been rough here. I will return.
I'm REALLY sorry to write a bad review ANY TIME, but...
I played this course about 3 years ago and remember it was in "ok" condition for the drought situation that had been in the area for a while. When I saw the price on GolfNow.com ($20.99) for a round yesterday (2/8/23), I thought I'd give it another try even though it has more bad reviews than good ones. As the title of my review said: "I'm REALLY sorry to write a bad review ANYTIME" because I hate to hurt honest folks trying to work hard and make a living. HOWEVER, with the respect due to the readers of GolfNow.Com reviews, I must say that this is probably the worst course conditions I've encountered in the last 4 years of playing (56 total) courses in the Inland Empire and Palm Springs areas. I won't go into all the particulars of "Why?" here because the terrible conditions have been well covered by many others. I will sum it up this way...IF YOU HAVE A DECENT SET OF CLUBS DO NOT PLAY HERE! It is almost impossible to land anywhere on the fairways and/or immediate surrounding rough that allows a shot without scuffing up your clubs. SORRY TO SAY IT, BUT I SUGGEST YOU DON'T PLAY HERE.
Rough …
Haven’t played here in two years and thought, maybe the conditions would get better…but they haven’t. Bunkers were not maintained at all and was harder than concrete, and this is after weeks of rain. There’s literally no grass on the fairways, just dirt and sand. Greens were really rough but like the layout a lot. I understand it’s a links course, but at least have some grass out there.
Quick round
I love links style courses and so the hard and fast conditions aren't a problem. But if toyre expecting lush green fairways, go elsewhere. The greens ran pretty nice when you weren't putting through potmarks or fungus. I had only 24 putts! The bunkers are the main concern for me as they are very unplayable- hard dirt with pebbles and rocks. 50/50 how it comes out- hit one good and the other shot out like a rocket. May be best to just pull the ball out of the bunker. I just played winter rules in the fairway and not a problem with that in mind. Tim was very helpful in the pro shop and they moved up my tee time an hour. I teed off at 12 and finished at 3:40 as the course wasn't very busy on a Saturday afternoon. I found a pretty inexpensive hot deal and played for $23 ($13 after my golfpass coupon). I take the course for what it currently is and don't have high expectations. Be careful if a walker as it's about .5 mile to the 1st tee and same to get back to #10. Pretty easy walk other than that as you can take short cuts from green to tee.
Fairways still brown
After the rains I thought the fairways would be greener. They weren’t. The course is challenging in the wind. It’s fun to play a links style course.
Disappointing
While the layout of this course is fantastic, it’s a complete waste since we played nearly every shot from hard packed dirt. No grass to be found. Aside from the par 3s, as you look out from each tee box it’s difficult to tell where the trouble is since it’s just one large dirt pile. No food available inside the clubhouse that day other than hot dogs. To top it off, our cart died on hole 13, and it took 3 holes of walking until the pro shop answered the phone to send us another cart. The group in front of us had their cart die as well. I’m not sure what the point is of being open for business if you’re not going to take care of the course and give your customers a good experience.
Links conditions
Cool unique course. Challenging track with links style conditions. Difficult yet very enjoyable.
Horrible
The fairways were literally dirt. No grass anywhere. We hit almost off cement every shot. Save yourself the money, don’t do it.
Awesome layout
Really good layout. Fairways need some work, still playable and fun. Playing firm and fast. Greens are rolling true.
Don’t waste your time!
The most frustrating thing about this foursome round was the fact that I called prior to booking the round and was told “the course is in really good shape accept for a few bare spots, but you a move the ball under lift, clean and place local rule” That was absolute BS! The course is an abomination in its current condition! What they would really do is close the course for 6 months and get it back into playing condition! It could be a great track if it was properly maintained. For the near to mid future, look somewhere else and don’t waste your money!
