The Links at Summerly

About
The Links at Summerly borders Lake Elsinore, southern California's largest natural lake. The Ortega Mountains and the Cleveland Natural Forest are also the golf course's neighbors. Although it feels nicely secluded, the Links are conveniently just minutes from Temecula. The design tumbles across a rolling terrain that is accented with 3 miles of Scottish-style burns. The natural mounding was deftly incorporated throughout the golf course. The rugged landscape, reminiscent of courses in the British Isles, gives it the look and feel of a traditional links layout. It is a formidable test that features heavily undulated fairways and an abundance of kidney-shaped bunkers. Although there are some tricky holes, each one was designed to offer several different playing strategies. Thought and imagination are required, but you will also have to use every club in your back to navigate the twists and turns of the Links at Summerly.

Diseased greens
Overall the course itself is fine. The greens however were completely in disrepair, and large swatches on most greens was dirt and plugs of grass.
Approximately 40% of Questionable quality. I’m sure in about six months and the course will be fantastic.
Worth Your Time if...
Course is in bad condition. Most greens are not really playable. The fairways are 1/2 dirt or very little grass. But if you are looking for just fast pace, and you want to practice your ball striking and accuracy then you may be ok with playing this course like I was regardless of the conditions. I had a great time being out there pretty much alone and able to work on my ball striking and accuracy.
I Love this Course...But They Have Let it Go!
This was once a favorite course of mine, it was challenging, and unique. However, during my last round, I was disappointed with the conditions of the course; fairways were dead, greens were not green and were mixed with mud and grass--leading to the ball bouncing on the greens. Staff noted that the back 9 was in bad condition, so we could play the front twice, but we opted to play it in anyway, and did not notice any difference in the conditions. While I enjoyed golfing the course...as it is golfing, I was extremely disappointed with the course conditions and hope they take the time to restore the course to the conditions that I remember.
Steal deal
Always a fun time here at Summerly. Absolutely love the unique links layout. As always, challenging conditions. This course ain't for the faint of heart. If you are a decent ball striker, and willing to face tough links conditions, I highly recommend this course.
Great bang for the buck
Fun links track in playable condition. Definitely the best deal around if you’re trying to play for under $50.
Good and bad
Good price, great speed, great layout, poor condition. Course conditions have never been great with little fairway grass if any. Now the greens are all screwed up too. Unfortunate for this unique course. I still have fun and can play very fast cuz not many people play it. Only diehard singles like me. I’ll enjoy it while it survives. My fellow players refuse to play it. Cowards!
What a disappointment
I was excited to play here after seeing a few good reviews mentioning that things were turning around. I was let down after one hole though. It looks like they overseeded the first hole and that was it. This course is no more than a glorified range. The fairways are still very sparce with limited grass. I ended up playing winter rules the whole round and occasionally there was even grass around to place your ball on. The bunkers were better than I recall but still had big rocks in them and were thin on sand. I did like that they brought back some of the black tees on the front nine and that they now had reeds growing in a lot of the creeks and burns.
The toughest part of this course was the greens. Last time I was here the greens were still puttable. Today, I just played auto 2 putt as the grass was non-existent on most greens and were either wet or dry dirt. It was tough to predict if you shot would stop immediately or bounce hard. There are no gimme putts as you can miss a putt inside 2 feet due to it bouncing around without any pattern.
I did play for only $26 and if you have a $10 off golfnow coupon, it may be worth playing as you can hit a lot of practice shots. The other nice thing, if you choose to "play" here, is that there were only 6 cars in the parking lot at 10 am on a Sunday. So pace was amazing! If you're okay with playing winter rules in the fairway and don't care about putting, this could be a great way to get some great on course practice in real conditions.
Horrible course ever
First time to play and will be the last.
Horrible condition either fairways or gteens.
I had to end up at 9th hole because it was just wasting time to continue.
It has a lot of potentials with interesting layouts but someone needs to invest to level up. They shouldn’t even charge with current conditions….
Unfortunate to waste a beautiful Sunday..
4X4 golf
Several greens not puttable due to dead cracked turf. Back 9 worse than the front. Fairways are acceptable for a links style course. Staff extremely friendly and professional. Pro shop needs to up their game for selection. No tees available for purchase. Driving range currently closed. It’s still 23 bucks for 18 holes and a cart. But you do need to manage your expectations on green conditions.
Nice layout
Awesome links style course, too bad it’s in such poor condition. Hardly any grass in the fairways even less on the greens. Lucky for me I only drove over an hour plus to get to the course. Time I’ll never get back. It’s a shame that nobody tells you that if you expect to hit off grass tee to green you need to choose a different golf course.
Yikes
Go here if you live nearby. Don’t drive over if u live more than like 15 minutes away. It’s not worth it
Getting better
Looks like things are finally improving. Still a ways to go but course is definitely looking and playing better. Most of the bunkers were playable today. New carts are much better. We stopped at the turn for the Philly cheesesteak and it was actually pretty good. Will be back later this week.
