The hole layout is awkward

First time playing this course was very confusing

Signage was horrible

Otherwise I gave it a great recommendation

Miami Shores is one of those public golf courses you wish you could clone and put in every town. Primarily known by locals, it appeals to a visitor as a course that helps one understand a bit more about the place one is visiting.

The success of Miami Shores starts with the golf course, a mostly preserved late-30s Red Lawrence design. Mostly open off the tee, things get more serious as the golfer approaches the greens, nearly all of which are fairly small, elevated and slope off on the sides. The course is not long, but it's a wonderful test. Rates are reasonable for the area and a mid-afternoon round can be had for less than $60 at peak times of the year.

Director of Golf Chris Baetzel and his staff set the tone, too: they're friendly, engaging and vigilant about making the place run like clockwork.

The driving range is lighted and open 'til 9. The bar is big and full of TVs. The course is in good shape. Walking is allowed. There are well-regarded instructors teaching golfers of every age and ability. There are flashier facilities, but Miami Shores is exactly the type of place most golfers would be thrilled to play regularly.

Pace of play was painfully slow. It took over 5 hours to play.

Really enjoyed course, fast raised greens, challenging but not impossible. I liked everything about this course. My wife and I played in about 3.5 hours on a Sunday.

Decent course but better course layouts in Miami. Very difficult to find the next hole in many locations on the course. Train tracks adjacent to the course with frequent train runs near the course. Golf maintenance crews had very little respect for the players. The sand traps are poorly raked probably because the rakes provided are in terrible shape. Many better choices and better values in Miami

Very challenging course,, condition excellent tee to green. Greens roll very true.

The course was in good shape, especially the greens. We got $57 special greens fees at 11:30 which is good deal for area. No range availability on Wednesday’s. People are not very friendly or accommodating

This course has the best greens in Miami except for Trump Doral’s 4 courses. The rough is kind of rough and the fairways are fairly consistent and decent. You come here for the layout and the greens though. Hands down. The bunkers are consistent.

The course is well maintained and just challenging enough to satisfy all levels of player. The carts are clean and run well. The staff is helpful and courteous. The restaurant has a good variety of menu items and the food tastes good.

The bar is well stocked and the service is good.

Very slow going. 5 1/2 hour round made what should have been an enjoyable round rather frustrating. Finished in the dark. Teed off 20 mins after scheduled time. No doubt the time of the year contributed to that.

The course presents its own challenge with elevated greens and surrounding slopes. The greens are better than average with their speed and conditioning. There were several soft spots on the course because of rain. Will play this course again & hopefully the pace will be better.

I had just landed in Miami that morning. Played 18 holes as a single, they paired me up with another single. We had a fun round of golf. The greens were extremely fast. The layout was a little confusing as far as hole direction. The grounds were well manicured and the rough was not too penal. I would play this course again.

Friendly staff. But started 20 minutes later than tee time. Pace of play slow on first nine.

But a great day and a gem of a course.
