Pleasure
I was pleasantly surprised playing this course. Nice feel for a city course. It will take a little getting used to the elevated Greens.
As good as golfing in Florida gets...
Layout is fun and challenging. The canal that runs through the course plays an interesting role on many holes. They keep the course in very good overall shape but the best part are the greens, rolling truly and above average speed.
Would definitely recommend playing this course when visiting Miami Beach.
Best course in Miami
The course is always in great shape and the staff are the best
Greens had been recently too dressed but course was still in good shape and played well. Course is forgiving off the tee but the greens are small, well-guarded, and penalize short side misses. I thought it was a good place to play and would do so again.
Just Average
Greens were in good shape. Very fast. Some were much faster than others though, which made for some pretty tough putts. Layout is honestly one of the most boring courses I’ve ever played for more than $30. I expected a little more, but I was happy with what I got for $50. Conveniently located about 10 min from Miami Beach, so an Uber was only about $5. Wouldn’t play again, but only because I desire a little more challenge.
Nice little gem
Great playable course in the city. Tees, fairways and greens all in great shape and the layout is challenging but fair. Plenty of room to spray a little off the tee and be able to recover. Lots of elevated geeens and bunkers where the course can bite you. Place of play was good and the facilities including food and beverage were very good. Highly recruit especially for the price
A friendly match
Good layout. Small hard elevated greens, but fair course.
Pleasantly Surprised
Having lived in Miami for a number of years, I'm surprised it took me so long to find this gem. Miami Shores Country Club was fun, beautiful, and in excellent shape. I would recommend this course to anyone looking to maximize their utility.
slow pace, but overall good course, well mantained.
Confusing
The hole layout is awkward
First time playing this course was very confusing
Signage was horrible
Otherwise I gave it a great recommendation
Miami's hidden gem
Miami Shores is one of those public golf courses you wish you could clone and put in every town. Primarily known by locals, it appeals to a visitor as a course that helps one understand a bit more about the place one is visiting.
The success of Miami Shores starts with the golf course, a mostly preserved late-30s Red Lawrence design. Mostly open off the tee, things get more serious as the golfer approaches the greens, nearly all of which are fairly small, elevated and slope off on the sides. The course is not long, but it's a wonderful test. Rates are reasonable for the area and a mid-afternoon round can be had for less than $60 at peak times of the year.
Director of Golf Chris Baetzel and his staff set the tone, too: they're friendly, engaging and vigilant about making the place run like clockwork.
The driving range is lighted and open 'til 9. The bar is big and full of TVs. The course is in good shape. Walking is allowed. There are well-regarded instructors teaching golfers of every age and ability. There are flashier facilities, but Miami Shores is exactly the type of place most golfers would be thrilled to play regularly.
Pace of play was painfully slow. It took over 5 hours to play.
