Mount Dora Golf Club
About
Mount Dora Golf Club is a historic, member-owned golf club open to the public, located about 35 miles northwest of downtown Orlando. The course began to form in 1945, shortly after World War II when returning G.I.'s petitioned the city for land to build a golf course.
A second nine was added in 1959 and the clubhouse was build in the 1960s. Set on just 85 acres, the course bills itself as "The longest 5,700 yards in Florida" thanks to an abundance of water and up and downhill lies that will demand precision over power.

The course has greens that run off on sides and front, sort of Donald Ross style . Greens putt true and receive a good shot well. Aim for center of greens.
Course in good shape.
Course in very good shape for not having any rain. Had fun playing. People are always nice. For the money you can't beat it.
Better than expected
To our surprise this was an enjoyable round for my wife and I. We were a twosome were lucky enough to have a single behind us join us on the 4th hole. As it was quite bsuy this helped with the pace of play. Greens were very playable, looked slow but were not. Fairways could use more grass as most non private courses in Fl could also. Tee boxes, playable. We had a great time and will return for another round soon.
Slow Roll
Course is coming along nicely. Greens have come in well. Fairways still need some work but as a whole were good. Only issue was the slow play. We had to wait on very many holes. A rather long course for senior players.
Rolling hills, postage stamp greens and beautiful trees-
Rolling hills, postage stamp greens and beautiful trees- what is not to like? Old school length with plenty of challenges. Keep it in the fairway and don't be a hero, and you will really enjoy this old school setup.
Can't wait to play again! Decent upkeep for a municipal, yes with tired amenities, but I am here to play golf!
Wateroak
Tee boxes OK greens very good but very challenging considering drought conditions some fairways pretty bad but so are most courses. Personally I like this course a lot but 9th always kills me.
Whats has happened
First the fairways need to be over-seeded you had to roll you ball to find some form of weed are maybe grass to hit off. The tee boxes are beat up need to move there and repair . Now the bathrooms were closed one out of order and the other locked that ok for some younger golfers but our group in there 70,s not so good when i called the pro shop the lady said i thought they were fixed . I asked why she didn't make us aware just another poor response . Some greens staring to have some issue .
Good layout
Fairly nice course that needs some work but still not bad. As with everywhere people need to learn golf etiquette and let single faster players play through. Other than that it really wasn’t terrible. Just needs some improvement to be a very nice course.
NICE COURSE
i LIKE THE LAYOUT AND AS EXPECTED THIS TIME OF YEAR WOTHOUT MUCH RAIN.
Great starter course
Made a last minute decision to get some golf in on Sunday morning with some friends. None of us have played this course before and I booked this based on reviews online and pricing. We typically play about once a week around town and range in handiaps from 10 - 23. We are used to various courses with different course conditions so a shorter course isn't a detractor to us.
The good -
The greens were in very nice shape but they were "slow" compared to most greens around the area. Yes, they rolled true but if you are used to putting on moderate to fast greens it will take some time to get used to these greens. They are challenging with various mounds and overall size but for people who like to be rewarded with the skill of putting on tricky, speedy greens, this may not be your cup of tea; you definitely had to hit it to the hole because flying the ball to the hole would not work as these greens are firm and will propel your ball into the rough.
The bad/ugly -
There really is no rough to talk about and it is rough, inconsistent and even more penal than typical courses with traditional rough (ie, grass) around the green. If you miss the green you are dealing with very uneven, inconsistent lies and likely going to frustrate you especially if it has rained a little the day before.
Fairways were pretty spotty with grass and it was difficult on some holes to find some spots in the fairway to hit from even when finding the fairway with the driver.
All in all it was an "ok" experience; staff were friendly, drink prices were great, but there is no practice range to loosen up, just a putting green and small chipping area.
Not sure if we would go back but if you are new to the game and want to get out and not have the round break into your wallet, this could be a good option as there are a lot of walkers, beginners and mix of other locals out there.
No bev cart or rangers on the course so pace of play could get tricky if you are playing late morning, early afternoon.
Better than expected!
This course has been underrated. Greens were in great condition while the layout is challenging. The fairways need some help but decent considering the lack of rain.
