Mount Dora Golf Club is a historic, member-owned golf club open to the public, located about 35 miles northwest of downtown Orlando. The course began to form in 1945, shortly after World War II when returning G.I.'s petitioned the city for land to build a golf course.

A second nine was added in 1959 and the clubhouse was build in the 1960s. Set on just 85 acres, the course bills itself as "The longest 5,700 yards in Florida" thanks to an abundance of water and up and downhill lies that will demand precision over power.

Hidden Gem of Central Florida

Played early around 7:28am and the greens were fast and very smooth right from the start. We caught a well-managed tee sheet, so we weren’t backed up and the pace of play was great all morning.

The layout was a pleasant surprise. There are undulations and elevation changes you don’t see on many Central Florida courses, which makes it more interesting and forces you to think a bit more on your shots. For the price, it’s a really solid value and feels like you’re getting more than what you paid for.

By noon the greens were absolutely rolling, putting as well as some private courses I’ve played. Overall the course was in great shape and clearly well cared for.

Highly recommend if you’re looking for a quality round at a fair price.

Good for the money

This time of year course prices in central Florida are high. Deals are few. Mt Dora is a decent course for the price. Greens are in excellent shape, as are tee boxes. Greens are small and sloped so it can be a challenge to get the ball to stay on! Fairways are a little rough. This course is walkable if you like this option. There are many nice restaurants in the area, a must for my group!

1945 Style and Privacy

A traditional course that is walkable and enjoyable.

The staff was friendly and helpful.

Carts were comfortable. Course was relatively well marked and maintained. A true locals course, but we felt more than welcome.

Highly recommended for a recreational round with some relaxation and subtle challenges that can and will eat your lunch.

Sharpen your short game before heading out!

Pace of play was poor

We played as a two-some around noon on a Saturday, as did many other groups. We finished the front nine in less than 1.5 hours. Then, for some reason, the back-9 was all jammed up. We waited at most tee boxes for at least five minutes and then another 2-3 minutes on each fairway shot from holes 10-15. THEN the real problem occurred. When we were playing No. 15 we noticed eight carts (four groups) lined up at the No. 16 tee. How could this possibly happen?? All we could guess was that there were at least two four-somes that must have jumped from No. 5 on the front-9 to No. 16. Anyway, we had a 20-minute wait to tee off there. And keep in mind, we saw at least four group quit on the back-9 (starting on No. 12) because of all of this nonsense. The back took us nearly 2.5 hours to complete. They need a ranger or someone out there regulating play, because I have never seen anything like this. The course conditions were "OK," but the greens were the smallest we have played on in years.

A Perfect Taste of Golf Nostalgia

This course is a perfect blast from the past. No houses, elevation changes, friendly staff, ability to ride or walk, and a sneaky golf design. The difficulty is designed into the course by the 3rd rough cut around the greens and the greens themselves. The greens roll perfect, but they slope from back to front, and 16 and 17 greens are more like inverted bowls. We had a fun time and would definitely play this hidden blast from the past again.

Tired of sprinkler crew

Nice little course to play for a quick round. Tired of the maintenance crew turning on the sprinklers right as we reach a hole. Makes everything a mess. They even turned the sprinklers right on when our cart was at the tee box soaking our clubs, towels, and golf cart seat. When they have so few playing the course you would think they would wait till after guests have played through to turn on sprinklers. This seems to reoccur week after week.

Fringe way too thick

I didn't hit a bad shot the first three holes yet lost six balls. The Fringe around the greens are way too high and thick. Kept watching my ball bounce. Just short ofthe green on The Fringe and couldn't find my ball unless I kicked it up. One green. I dropped my wedge on The Fringe to go putt and couldn't find my my wedge on the way back it was lost in the thick grass. Not fun

Vintage Course

Mount Dora Golf Association is a vintage course with different elevation changes. The greens can be a challenge at times. Today the course was in great shape; however, the rough is very plush Bermuda grass that conceals the ball, making it difficult to find. This plush Bermuda provides a shot challenge especially when hitting into the grain. For the most part this course is fairly open and forgiving, although there are a handful of holes that provide the opportunity to add some penalty strokes to the round. Due to lack of space, there is not an on-site driving range, but they do have a couple nice putting greens to warm-up on. This wonderful course opened in 1946 and continues to stand the test of time.

No lawn mowers?

With rough this thick and greens this hard and sloped it’s basically an impossible place to score at. Has to have been weeks since the grass was cut. Also had a school team peppering balls at is on 2 holes with no fore calls which is about when our round started to go downhill. I see the charm, but in the current conditions… no thanks.
