Mount Dora Golf Club
About
Mount Dora Golf Club is a historic, member-owned golf club open to the public, located about 35 miles northwest of downtown Orlando. The course began to form in 1945, shortly after World War II when returning G.I.'s petitioned the city for land to build a golf course.
A second nine was added in 1959 and the clubhouse was build in the 1960s. Set on just 85 acres, the course bills itself as "The longest 5,700 yards in Florida" thanks to an abundance of water and up and downhill lies that will demand precision over power.

Hills
This course was a lot of fun. I’ve never seen such elevation on a florida golf course, there were holes going straight up, down, and sideways. 5000 something yard course probably played 6500-6800. Pretty wide open, neither of us lost a ball (that’s a first). Fairways are a mixture of grasses but very well maintained for what is there. Greens probably should have been mowed that morning, but offered up a nice challenge reading the grain (also a first). Conditions themselves were great considering the flood warnings all night from a bad storm, yet there was no water or even mud anywhere. I love playing cheaper courses, this one was probably the most fun I’ve played
Putting greens are supposed to have grass?
Maybe this course should rent out their greens keeper to some other courses in the area to show them how to grow grass on the greens.
Good value golf
Course is good. Fairways and some tee boxes need work. The greens were excellent. It's an easy going course. People are friendly and Plat safely.
Ranger with attitude
It saddens me to have to leave a bad review but the course ranger made this such a terrible experience and it was 100% all him and his ego. A good friend and his wife just moved into the area and my wife and I wanted them to try this course. They have a baby that we have taken with us before. The wives ride together with the baby while he and I play. We have done this multiple times at multiple courses. Well he started the conversation to my wife with, “did you pay for that?” Confused she said my husband has paid for everything already and he is behind you if you have questions. He said “HE” didn’t feel comfortable with the baby going with his mother and friend. We explained that we go play weekly and have taken the baby to multiple courses and because she is between the mom and friend that the baby is out of harms way. He said he felt it was not safe and allowed us to leave. He caught up to us on hole three and said that the president of the course was there and saw the baby and asked him to escort them off the course. Such a terrible first experience for a family that golfs who just moved 10 minutes away who will now not only speak bad about this experience but never go back due to his terrible attitude.
Should have read up on the course
No driving range but a putting and chipping area. Pretty good except some older member where playing the womens course and being very pushy with us. It was my friends first time playing but we still played a great pace.
Enjoyable but at a snails pace
Enjoyed the layout and the condition was good considering the dry weather. Unfortunately we caught up with a local fourball which ignored both etiquette and the local rules and played very slowly but wouldn’t let our twoball through. Consequently we had an exceptionally slow round. Doesn’t encourage golfers to return.
DO NOT PLAY
I’ll be asking GN for a refund. Straight beach scene. The green were air ratted. They were more like a sand traps cause the greens just had sand.
If you want birdies and eagles only
Long straight fairways make this cheese a lot of fun.
Cons: no beverage cart, limited kitchen options on Sunday. Fairways not well kept.
The walking dead
Had a 10:05 tee time. Trying to play in about 3 hours. Ran into a sea of elderly players at hole 4 playing a scramble… about 8 4somes, Wait time was 20 minutes to tee off… had to go to hole 7 to skip them. Hit another 6 elderly 4somes playing in a league. Had to go to hole 10 to skip them. None of this was on the website or relayed to me at the clubhouse, I would have booked a different time or day if I knew. Easily the worst day at the course ever
So Very Pleasantly Surprised!
My husband and I had not played this course in a number of years due to the very poor course conditions. However, we were advised that this course was under new management and had improved. We were totally surprised at how far this course had come along. The greens were transitioning to summer and the fairways were undergoing improved treatment. The pro shop staff were very pleasant to deal with providing us with great hints and information. Kudos to the work being performed and the course being perfected! We will certainly be back!
