Mount Dora Golf Club

About
Mount Dora Golf Club is a historic, member-owned golf club open to the public, located about 35 miles northwest of downtown Orlando. The course began to form in 1945, shortly after World War II when returning G.I.'s petitioned the city for land to build a golf course.
A second nine was added in 1959 and the clubhouse was build in the 1960s. Set on just 85 acres, the course bills itself as "The longest 5,700 yards in Florida" thanks to an abundance of water and up and downhill lies that will demand precision over power.

Nice course- very hilly for a Florida course.
Course was in good shape for the lack of rain recently. Greens were in good shape, pretty fast and a little over fertilized. They seem to fertilize a lot. Not many people out there yesterday for such a beautiful day.
Avoid early Friday mornings
Pace of play was awful. The course was loaded with seniors playing a scramble. They continually stood in fairways lined up behind their balls doing nothing. I even saw them waiting to hit the ball uphill over 220 yards. Hoping not to hit into someone I guess. Then when they were on the green, they would be on it for at least Five or more minutes. Usually when you have a scramble event you close the course or block out some tee times. I guess this is what they deemed to be normal on Friday mornings. After five holes, I skipped two only to run into them again. Absolutely frustrating!
I went to the starter to say they need a Ranger he said oh it’s only an hour and 40 minutes since I started. Only problem is it was an hour and 40 minutes for five holes, not nine holes.
I usually do not write reviews but If you’re gonna have a scramble event you should not be the allowing the public to come in behind it at the pace they were playing. It would’ve been 5 1/2 hours for this round possibly more . I played seven holes and left. Neither the starter nor the clubhouse offered a rain check. It’s too bad because I really like this course, The track is fun even though the course could use some work. I don’t think I’m going back again., Very sad!
Was here before on a Friday and the pace was amazing so I was excited to come back. I guess it’s senior scramble Russian roulette at this course on Friday mornings.
great course
Even with short yardage, still a tough layout. Greens in great shape. Watch the grain for the speed of greens
Just OK
When they say you get what you pay for, this course is what they mean. Sure, it’s not very expensive but there’s definitely a reason and that reason is mostly because of the fairways. Most fairways were bare or had very little good grass. There were time I would’ve rather have been in the rough so that I wasn’t hitting it off of mud.
On the other hand, the greens were its saving grace. Each green rolled really nicely and had no bare spot issues. Right now they are pretty quick and the turtle shell styling was a difficult challenge.
I also liked the park styling of the course. It was nice to get away from playing in a community. The fairways were pretty tight but hitting it off line won’t kill your game. Just be prepared to alert anyone in the next fairway of your errand shot.
Rude starter
Booked on GolfNow and arrived 15 minutes prior to tee time. Lady in clubhouse took over 10 minutes to check in as she was preparing hot dogs for someone else. Get checked in and head to first tee. Starter comes up and says behind the next group. I inquire on tee time of the group as my 2some was still a couple minutes prior to tee time. She then states that the prior group was same tee time but she didn’t pair my two with them because I didn’t want to be paired. I stated I didn’t say that. I booked a time that was empty 4 spot on golf now for only 2. Therefore the other 2 that booked into same spot is conceding g they wanted same time and pairing. I attribute this to having my female significant other in my 2. She plays well and has good etiquette. Starter wanted to put us behind a group of 4 young men who from my observations couldn’t strike the ball very well. The pace was group ok group all day. My female companion playing from the ladies tees would not have changed the pace of play on this day. We waited patiently on every hole. The starter after conceding the proper tee time where we played as a 2some inquired in an ugly manner “is this your first time playing here?” Other than the the check in delay and the insulting starter it was a comfortable day on course. This is a short course with some fun elevation change that is harder to find in Florida. Course conditions were solid. There is some risk of errant balls due to course layout. So stay alert where you are located and others are located for possible incoming.
Fun course to play
We enjoyed the course. Fun layout, short but challenging with small undulating greens.
Conditions were good, greens rolled true but have some subtle breaks.
Restaurant is closed, hot dogs and pre-made sandwiches are available.
Beverages available and beverage cart on weekends.
Great little course with hills, small fast greens, imaginative layout and an old school vibe. Best bang for the buck! Loved it, played it twice...with my hickories😀
Slow play on a cold day
I had 2 players in front of me that thought that they were gods gift to golf !
They would hit 2 or 3 balls each off of every tee box just to prove how far that they could hit it ( which was not very far )
SO WAY WERE THEY WAITING UNTIL THE GROUP IN FRONT OF THEM WERE ON THE GREEN BEFORE THEY TEED OFF ?
This was really annoying because it caused me to wait all the time
As a senior with arthritis issues, I was cold and stiff all day and was barely able to finish
Other than this issue, it was another good day at Mount Dora and great value for the money
A nice round!
Had a great time with a decent round. Do not let the short yardage fool you, still a tough course, tight fairways and small greens makes it tough! No beverage cart that I seen but very friendly and pleasant staff none the less. Most of the course was in decent shape at least playable. We will be back.
I wasn't a single. I was with two other players. I left them after 5 holes. Don't comment like you know what the situation was. Don't be a smart A about it either.
The stupid comment about mocking the guy playing as a single should actually READ the review. No where does he say that they wouldn't let him play through, he was talking about the pace of play. Slow play and people who shouldn't golf should stay off the course not singles. One of the dumbest takes I've seen on here.
Make some friends to play with. Don't go to a golf course as a single and expect everyone to let u go thru. A single has no business on a course that has all twosome and above.
