TPC Harding Park ranks among the most famous municipal courses in the country, along with Torrey Pines South and Bethpage Black. TPC Harding Park, which is part of the San Franciso Recreation and Parks Department, hugs the shores of Lake Merced in close proximity to the Lake Merced Golf Club, The Olympic Club and San Francisco Golf Club. Dating to 1925, it has a long history of tournament golf among its stately Monterey Cypress trees. Byron Nelson won back-to-back San Francisco Opens in 1944-45. The PGA Tour's Lucky International in the 1960s attracted winners such as Gary Player (1961), Gene Littler (1962), Jackie Burke Jr. (1963), Ken Venturi (1966) and Billy Casper (1968).

After falling on hard times, the course received a $16-million renovation in 2002-03 that brought it back into the tournament fold, hosting the 2005 World Golf Championship-American Express Championship, the 2015 WGC-Match Play Championship, The Presidents Cup in 2009, the Charles Schwab Cup Championship from 2010-12 and the 2020 PGA Championship, its first major.

San Francisco should rebuild every one of its courses like this

Fun course with excellent rhythm in the routing. Greens rolled fast and true. Cost cutting with weird placements of sprinklers around greens. This is a wonderful public facility. The lake balances that out. Beautiful, big-boned golf course. Magnificent trees. Extremely fair. Would play it every day.

Impeccable

The views are fantastic. A must-play course when visiting San Fran! Definitely walkable too. Didn’t see a ranger to enforce pace of play and it’s a bit expensive for non-residents. Otherwise, beautiful conditions and jaw-dropping views.

Historic track just wish greens could roll better

You gotta play it! And if you can get on for under a hundy you should... Just bring your aggressive putter stroke. Staff is top shelf but just wish the maintenance of the greens could be better. Came up about 107 yards short of trying to recreate Morikawa shot on #16! . What a historic moment on such a great hole! #18 is such a great hole as well. #8 par 3 is 3rd favorite.... okay i love them all!! and Play fleming too!

Course Condition

Staff friendly and helpful as always based on multiple times I have enjoyed a round on this course. However the greens have been punched with no advance notice the greens were not in any way ready for play

Also a concern I noticed multiple greens and fairways had tensile dead spots or perhaps fungus which resulted in very poor conditions. I am sure HP is aware of this very disappointing to see this condition

Classic

I try to play there once a week, the pace of play is normally 4 hours on weekday mornings. It is a great deal with a resident card. Fun to play a course where you have also attended WGC, Presidents Cup and other pro events. Today was 20% less because the greens were aerated, so goes it. Typical Northern California coastal course, cold, wet and windy but a beautiful and challenging..

Great condition

Course is in same condition as last year before PGA.

Pace of on back nine a little slow, waiting on every tee shot.

Fun, challenging

Tee boxes were fine. Fairways and rough were great condition. Greens had a ton of ball marks, but still ran true and quick. Only complaint were the bunkers. I was in a few, and all were very compact with very little sand to work with. The guys in my group also complained (they were in them a lot, which made for an even longer day with the condition of them). Even walking by fairway bunkers, I would see tons of weeds growing in some spots. Other than that, great course, fun and challenging, and I’ll go back.

Cart Path Only

Love the coarse. Was in great condition. Rough was a little deeper than expected. Fairways are narrow so if you’re not on the fairways good luck getting to the greens in regulation. Was a little difficult for me being cart path only. It may be easier for me to walk it but the cart gives me a chance to rest. All in all it was fun and challenging.
