Hole #2 Green Side Bunker represents most traps on this course that need additional sand to allow potential for more enjoyable and better playability. Photo submitted by Sam687374 on 01/16/2025

Hole #6 Tee-Box represents most T-Boxes on this course that need repair/recovery to allow potential for more enjoyable and better start for each hole. This was not fresh dirt so this leads me to believe repair/recovery of the T-boxes has not been and is c Photo submitted by Sam687374 on 01/16/2025
Fun to hang around a multi-sport complex.
For a 9-hole course to survive these days, they need to find some more revenue. Here they have routed a frisbee course and soccer ball course on the same site. It would be fun to see all 3 courses in use at once. The frisbee routing crosses a couple fairways, but you shouldn’t be in big hurry anyway.
The greens were in good shape. The tee boxes are in desperate need of some seed or sod.
Get That Practice In
As someone who has just recently gotten back into golf, this has become a go-to course for me to get some practice in before or after work.
Pros:
- Course is very well maintained for a Exec. 9
- Hole five is a proper Par 4, that's forgiving for players who tend to fade the ball.
- It's Affordable ($8 a round if you're part of their membership program) $10 - 20 otherwise.
-Generally a very sweet, and diverse crowd of people.
Cons:
-Sometimes you have to shoo geese off the tee box.
-I wish there was one more long hole on the course.
All in all, Marina @ Monarch Bay is a great place to get your short game down, while still being able to drill a few drives.
Avoid midmorning - afternoon
This is an executive course with a bunch of Par 3s. The Pace of play is rather fast unless you are stuck behind disc golfers and soccer golfers which was my case. This is probably true on the weekends only not sure about during the week. Had to wait more then a few minutes at a few holes just to tee off. The conditions of the course are rather great for the amount you are paying. Bunch of geese turds everywhere though. It’s walking only but I have seen a few people with a golf cart. It’s practically empty in the early morning on the weekends.
Birds
This course is covered in bird poop. There are so many birds. There was a dead goose on the fifth hole. The pace of play was poor. There was also a lack of etiquette. A man interrupted my tee shot and asked how far I could hit it. Another guy was driving a cart all over the greens.
Good Condition But Maintenance Personnel Need Training!!!
Weather was perfect. The course was in very good condition. The only problem was several spots which were very wet. Due to carts and maintenance vehicles driving through these areas significant damage to the fairways had occurred. I observed maintenance vehicles continuing to go through the wet areas and causing damage. Not sure why areas were not roped off by maintenance personnel. Maintenance personnel should know better and should have notified management of the problem. I flagged down the marshall and reported the situation.
You get what you pay for
The sand traps are hard as a rock. Tee boxes are super torn up, greens have divots galore, and grass is just non existant in many parts of the course. If you're a beginner or just trying to figure out your short game, you've come to the right place. You'll find many out on the course just like you and the pace of play reflects that. It's really just a practice course in my opinion.
Great Executive Course
Played a quick round here with my son and his girlfriend who were visiting for the day from out of town. Had a 6:52 am tee time and only one person ahead of us so no waiting at all.
Great course but two gripes. The amount of duck/Geese feces on the course and the foot golf hole signs threw us off twice as they differ from the golf course holes.
Other than that the staff was friendly and for only $18 walking I'll play the course again.
Misleading when booking
This is the second time I have booked a tee time here which included a cart only to be told there was no carts available. There were at least 10 carts sitting outside the pro shop ready to go. I then asked for a push cart and they said they had none of those either. We ended up having to leave, losing the booking fee from GolfNow and didn't play a round of golf. I get it, it was memorial weekend, you were busy, but don't let me book a round online thats includes a cart if you don't have any. We will never go back to this course ever again. Drove to Lake Chabot and played their par 3 course instead. The staff there were really friendly and helpful.
good features from the course
pace of play was very good. the staff was accommodating because I had mistakenly booked the Marina 9hole course and the pro shop was able to give my 2-some a good T time on the Tony Lema 18hole course. the restaurant amenity included in the green fee was good too. Tony Lema course is more of a links design than a traditional course design. Some of the pin placements were real challenging; T boxes, fairways and greens are in good condition. bunker sand seemed thin in the 2 traps I played out of.
Very nice 9 hole course!!
The staffs are very friendly... the course is well maintenance.. already booked the 18 hole for this weekend!
great experince
brought my 8 year old nephew out to play the 9 hole marina course . perfect for he and I both. I as able to work on my iron game and he was able to play from tee to green with out getting overwhelmed by the length of the holes . staff was great...pro shop lady helped us get a cart when we thought all had been used in the shot gun tourney going on the other course
course nice and well maintained
i got a nice deal of this course!
i will never forget this because i got my first hole in one.
Great Pace even on a busy day
This is a pretty good course, everybody is their to have a good time
Private course feeling.
Aside for the low price I paid, everything is like playing in a well maintained private golf course, along the bay.
A Fun Executive Course
The monarch course is great for a quick 9 and it was in very good condition. It was also challenging, but fair.
All the staff at the facility were very friendly and helpful.
We definitely hope to play there again when we visit the San Leandro area.
The 9 Hole Marina Course is Fun
We had a great time playing the Marina Course this weekend. It's a flat and easy course, the perfect kind for playing to have a good time. It took about 90 minutes to play, we didn't have any waiting time before us and nobody was immediately after. All in all, it was a great value. I liked how there were a few longer holes mixed in with the short ones. I didn't lose too many balls either.
