Good course and great value
We played Poplar Creek earlier this week and it was a beautiful day.
The course is in good condition.
The only negative was that play was very slow.
The temperature was 70 and there was no wind. No wonder the course was crowded.
Beautiful Sunday
With the drought and then all of the rain it's made most if not all golf courses a little worse off this year, but things are starting to turn around and I know that the staff is working hard to keep Poplar in good shape and working towards it being in great shape. The staff is always friendly and helpful. This course is a Muni but it has enough challenges for anyone. Playing from the 'tips' - (back tees) makes the course even more challenging so those scratch golfers have to work a bit!
The earlier you play, the faster you play
The pace of play was horrible, and after the 2nd hole, we didn't see a marshall. We quit after the 16th hole, and were considering quiting after 13. Group ahead of us was 2 holes behind.
disappointing
The staff in the pro shop were great, friendly, informative - great first impression. We can not say the same for the course itself. The front 9 was in much better shape then the back - overall it played like two different courses: one that was maintained (front 9) and one that needed a ton of maintenance (back 9). For the money it was not a very good value - doubt we will go back.
Good value and convenient location.
Alot of improvements going on, should be in great shape for spring.
Local muni
Avg. muni course reasonably well maintained but not much interest as far as layout goes. It's almost a barren wasteland when the wind comes up which is most of the time. The best part of the course is probably the greens which provide the only real challenge.
A lot of waiting at a number of holes but surprisingly finished under 4 hours 45 minutes on a Sunday so I was happy. My only complaint was the choppy greens because they were recently punched, they were so difficult to score on. I understand the necessity to aerate greens but I wish I was informed when I made the reservation. I may have declined if I knew.
Very slow pace of play
It took one hour between teeing off on #1 and teeing off on hole #2. Originally were told by the group in front of us that the backup was due to a tournament? Not sure where they got that info from, but the wait was four groups deep. Front nine took 3 hours. Some groups quit at the turn and back nine was slightly faster. Total time for round was 5.5 hours. Marshal came by several times, and play would speed up for one hole, then back to the same slow play.
Slow slow and slow.
We teed off late. Golf pro wanted us to wait for private lesson. Past the tee time nobody around and they wouldn’t let us tee off. Finally we were able to go out after one of the group members asked to prorate the round.
Even with that I gave up after 9 holes of slow play. 2 groups were backed up on the 10th tee box. Mid-week
Play Time
In all the years I’ve played there first time we played in 3 1/2 hours.
Not bad but slow..
Need to speed up groups or book fewer groups.. I play here once a month or so. Its always hit or miss on pace.
Just Average
Course is fairly easy. Fairways are really bad and so are some of the greens.
Good ;local course
i have been playing Poplar Creek for 30 years.
It is a good course but not well maintained.
Some holes have ball washers and some do not.
Some holes have yardage markers and some do not.
Poplar Creek Golf
I love this course and it's so close to home. Staff is friendly always! It can be slow on busy days buy not any more so than other courses. This course has enough challenges to make it interesting.
good for practice
This course has little by way of design. It's a back and forth course with a few trees and a few water hazards. It's short but often windy. Sometimes the greens are in good condition. Fairways are decent. Probably will score better here than your home course. I often come here when my home course is having a tournament and it's inexpensive.
