Rudest checkin I have ever experience
We booked our teetime via Golfnow for 1.15pm. Since I saw that the course was wide open ,we came early hoping to tee off before our time. The answer was that they had a contractual agreement that will NOT allow them,(both of them) to let us go earlier. I was told that If we had booked our tee time directly he would have let us gone ahead. I told them that there WILL NOT be a next time. This is not only a waste of time but will effectively back up the course later on. WE waited for more than an hour . I have never encounter such an attitude . After the round I met and complemented a very friendly employee, who knew exactly who I was unhappy with. Until the 2 rude guys change I see no reason to recommend this facility . The management should likewise look into the behavior.
Nice track if you have the time
Thought it would be quick on a weekday afternoon, but no such luck. Very slow play made somewhat tolerable by a beautiful day. Not sure what they could do (marshall?) but be sure you have time if you play here.
Great place to get better
I'm a "developing" golfer. Playing Poplar, and a few lessons, has helped me get from shooting low 100s to mid 80s. Poplar is open and allows opportunities to make the next shot be better than the last. Everyone is helpful, course is wide open, pace of play is good unless you get on in super twilight with the rest of San Mateo County. If your developing your skills, Poplar Creek is the place to do it.
fun downwind. challenging into wind
very flat course, easily walkable. popular in the morning. afternoons usually ok pace. this course while not super interesting has some fun holes. hitting into the wind one must choose the correct club or end up short. a downwind par five becomes reachable in two. not many lost balls but you will likely use all clubs in your bag. fun, fair course where one can regain confidence in their game.
Hot day, slow back nine play
Record temps this day, but a 2some jumped in front of us at the turn and totally slowed things down. This never should have been allowed. We were making good time but after 4 holes of slowed down play and having to wait every tee, me and another single both quit and headed in. Need better course management by ranger.
Good time.
VERY good condition for a public course. A little bit slow, but it WAS a Friday afternoon with perfect weather, so definitely an enjoyable round overall.
good course in fair condition
Poplar Creek is a good course but not in great condition. Play was slow
Be prepared to wait
Marshall should really keep an eye out for slow play. We paid for 18 holes but ended up only playing 11 because we ran out of time. We had a group in front of us that 1. carried their bags. 2. walked very slowly. 3 were not aware that they were holding up lots of people.
There is nothing wrong with playing poorly. But if you hit a ball 7 yards at a time, you'd better play quickly. There is NO EXCUSE for SLOW PLAY. No EXCUSE.
I don't care about the course architect, when it was founded and all the other details. If I have to wait 10 minutes at every t-box, I'm out of there. Unacceptable. MARSHALS- please do your job and enforce quicker play.
Thanks
22 dollars for a cart!?!
Got hot deal for a good rate but when I got a cart the total was more than just walking on with no reservation at all. Rediculous cart rate.
Pase of play
waiting several minutes at every Tee. Paid for 18 only played 9.
Poplar Creek
Poplar creek is a fairly short 18 hole course. is very open and not extremely difficult. It is a fun course that allows you to use all your clubs and is a good practice for both beginner and experienced golfers
Pace of Play
Family group in front of us , stop to coach each other & practices , without regarding us waiting . They were
at least 2 to 3 holes behind and yet no marshal to
tell them to pick up the pace.
Local Muni
Poplar is what it is, a playable convenient Muni close to home. This tee time was made by my son and his two friends after 2:00pm. All are youth on course members through the NCGA so the price of $5 for each is fantastic and gets them out. Problem is I picked them up at 5:00 after only playing 9 holes as the pace of play was not good. To have 3 15 year old average to below average players tell me how they were waiting on every shot for the group in front of them is kinda too bad and leaves the new generation players wondering what else they could do with their time. This course is short, benign and should easily be played in 4 hours even by beginners. The staff and facility's are great and Jeremy does a great job trying to get more young players involved in the game. It's up to the older players to ensure that the pace moves and young players around them enjoy themselves and feel welcomed.
Cheap course, mega Slow pace of play
Very poorly maintained, pace of play is terrible. Amenities and food is awful. Expect at least a 5 1/2 to 6 hour round. Not a course for the mid to high handicaper.
Slow Play, Marshall could care less!
5.5 hour round. Called pro shop 3 times with no help from the Marshall about the group in from of us. My buddy told them to hussle up and they threatened us and were very vulgar with their language. Called us racially charged names and homophobic names. Once the Marshall finally came out we told him and he just followed them for one hole then left. It was by far the most uncomfortable round of golf I have ever played. It was horrible.
