First time at Poplar
Fun course, and pretty wide open for the most part. Greens weren't too fast, and conditions were pretty fantastic. Great value for the money, and I'd like to come back
It's my go to course but I'm not spending anymore $$$ until you do something with the greens!!!!
The greens were punched at least 2 months ago. They need to be mowed and ROLLED!!!! They are SLOW and give a bouncy ride on your putt. It screws up your putting game playing these greens in the current condition since you have to hit the ball so hard!!!! You go play a course with decent greens and you are lost because you have been blasting the ball at Poplar!
No mas until they are maintained!!! Please note when you do on your website.
greens
greens were very bumpy for some reason they are usually pretty good
Funb
Flat,..can get windy..golf what else can I say.
Golf Now great value
Course is playing as good as can be expected for a muni. Staff is always great. Driving range has worked out well for course so get here early and hit a bucket for warmup.
Memorial Day Play
Played on Memorial Day. Pace wasn't too bad considering we started at 11:15. Finished after about 4.75 hours. Bunkers are rock solid so not ideal but course was in good condition otherwise. I'd come again.
Poplar creek
Great hot deal rate! I've played this course many times It is a good beginner course fast play Layout is good gets windy in the afternoon so be ready for 15-20 mph gusts sometimes it gets too loud with the shooting range nearby but overall it is a good course
Pleasantly surprised
Haven't played here since driving range was built. A couple of fairways are in bad shape but overall groomed. The pace was great. One of the clubhouse men was gruff and dismissive.
Great price thru Golfnow
Great deal thru Golfnow! Easy walking course. Can be a little challenging playing from the black tees.
Wait out rush hour commute by playing this course
This muni course is located right off highway 101. I played it midweek on a cloudy, windy afternoon with light rain. I arrived write on time for my scheduled tee time. I booked it through Golfnow and got a great deal (walking rate)! The deal was so good the staff could not believe what I paid and literally made me wait a half hour so they can investigate if my booking was legit. They called the manager and I waited, I even shared them my smartphone to show my actual reservation from Golfnow. But the price was so good they just could not get over it. Funny at first but it got irritating and I was ready to just walk away. Until one of their staff took pity and sent me out with a threesome. The course is a typical california muni where 18 holes is jammed inside a small lot area. The pace was slow due to bad weather. Some holes had water hazards which made them challenging. Very little elevation so you can walk this course easily. The holes are set right next to each other so be cautious of wayward shots from adjacent holes. Average fairways for a muni. The greens were decent size but bumpy. Overall a good beginner's golf course but would not recommend for golfnow users because of the negative attitude from the staff.
Nice Metro Course
This is a fairly good course right by the Bayshore freeway. The fairway and green are well maintained. There are some challenges on course obstacles and green slopes. Most of the time there is congestions. An average 18-hole round takes about 5 hours. The club does not give any rain check. Once you book your time, you need to go rain or shine.
Disgusta National review
Growing up we affectionately called Poplar Creek Disgusta National or Puny Municipal. Saw they finally added a range. That only took about 50 years. First timers be warned the wind picks up big time in the afternoon. I honestly can't say $70 a round (GolfNow rate for an early Saturday tee time) is worth it vs Metropolitan, Monarch Bay or similar munis.
Great value, nice track
Flew in from Syracuse NewYork looking to play course next to hotel. Was very please with the GolfNow rate and value. Tee to green course was in great shape, very green felt like summer golf in New York. Great workers in the clubhouse, bartendar nice after the round was over. Would go back to play course for sure!!
Too crowded - too many 1st time players
The desk staff did not allow experienced golfers to play ahead of 2 large partying groups. One group was 12 players, 8 of whom were on their first-time golfers. That group was preceded AND followed by similar large groups. Impatient golfers following us played into us, missing one of our group by inches. Pace of play was terrible.
Be wary after the rain
The recent rains meant the course was pretty water logged. I played two days after the most recent rain and it was cart path only for riders. You are severely
penalized for hitting off the fairway as the grass was very deep and sticky. The grass was about 4 to 5 inches high and lost balls were a given if you're not hitting the fairways. The putting surface was spongy on some holes.
This was a good learning experience and now have some knowledge on playing in such conditions.
Starting time?
I was a single. Had appointments in the afternoon. Had to get out early. Got a tee of time of 7:15am on-line. Get to the pro shop at 6:30, paid for my round and hit afew warm-up balls. Get back at 7:10 am a couple of foursomes had tee off, it was now 7:35 am. Went into the pro shop asked, "did you forget about me". They said, "no, I was a single and had to wait for threesome". It was now 7:45 am.
At this point it was becoming frustrating. Told them, "Why did you take my money, knowing you had foursomes teeing off at 7:15. So finally after raising my voice, I was able to tee off at 7:50 with a another foursome. And was able to make it to my appointments. Bottom line is i will never book a early tee time through Golfnow.
Nice curse, great value
The course was played late Feb. approx. two weeks after heavy rains. The fairways, greens, and tee boxes were all in wonderful condition. No bald spots, bumps, putting speed was consistent from green to green, and the rough not muddy.
Slow play
The course is in decent condition, but players do not regularly repair divot marks on the greens. Play was very slow. Need marshals on course to keep the slow groups moving.
Too slow, no marshalling.
I want to be able to play this course because for the money it is a decent place to play. However, there is no work done on the part of the staff to regulate pace of play. There are singles, doubles, and foursomes all mixed up and it has taken more than 5 hours to play this relatively short course on more than one occasion. I would be happy to play this course once a week if it was possible to play it in 4 to 4.5 hours. I will miss this place.
Ok, am new to golf. Is referring to a course as a curse, golf lingo? Because the game itself has been a curse to a large extent.
