Slow play, but decent course.
VERY slow pace of play...only got through 12 holes in 4 hours. Did not finish the round due to darkness. The course is fairly well maintained, considering how many people must play every day. Fairly typical muni course, with just above average maintenance. Shorter than average par 4s. Food was actually surprisingly good.
windy
greens were very good, course in good shape
can get wery windy.water on number two can be tricky.
Where's the Marshal
Overall the course is in decent shape. The bunkers are in better shape than times past. They have more sand for sure. I only found one that was a little thin. The greens roll reasonably well. There are few greens with some pretty rough spots on them. Unfortunately, there are still too many golfers/idiots playing who don't repair ball marks. The 18th green was loaded with bird droppings on the upper tier making it impossible to putt without knocking away the turds with a towel. I was unable to change the date I played. I played on 2/25/14 at 12:37 P.M.
Good front 9; Snail's pace back 9
Played with 3 friendly and good golfers. Fairways and greens.
At the 10th, play went from good pace to 20 - 30 minutes per hole. We could see the obvious slow group who were behind by more than one hole - nobody to move them ahead! Back nine in 3 hours!!!!!!!!!! Horrible.
Kudos to the greenskeepers --
Good value for the money
The course is very close to where I live and I enjoy playing the course from time to time as it is a good value. The course isnt too changelling.
Fun and goals met
I played with two friends for the first time at Poplar. We got paired with a single who was fun to play with. I had a great time. I set a goal to break 80 by spring and shot a 79 at Poplar. Thanks for the memories!
Overall a nice experience
Overall, a nice experience during the weekdays. Weekends, pace of play sometimes can be awful. Greens are good, fairways well maintained, and the rough is easy. Easily walkable course
Slowest day ever
I usually enjoy this course although playing on the weekend typically means a 5 Hour round. This day was brutal! A gorgeous Sunday after Christmas brought out every duffer on the peninsula with their new presents. Teed off at 11:15, made the turn at 2:00 then it really slowed down.
Nice, fairly flat course. Well maintained overall.
Can be a little noisy from the proximity to 101 and the Gun Club. Several places where you can easily lose a ball - but otherwise a good challenge but not overly difficult for an average golfer.
No wait this day
Course was in good shape. Had a great round. Very cold and windy.
Flat, wide open course - great for beginner/intermediate players
For $27 twilight, this is a great deal. Course reminds me of Palo Alto Muni which is completely flat and if you miss hit a drive, you'll likely be ok.
too much animal dropping. greens and tee box are too close. so dangerous

Great value
Very nice facility. They offered an unexpected discount due to greens conditions which was a pleasant surprise. Look forward to playing again.
Character and variety
This place is very walkable because it is quite flat but there is plenty of interest to be had. The designers came up with some great holes. Some short par 4s look like birdie opportunities but well placed hazards punish misplaced aggression. All the par threes except the last one are pretty tricky for one reason or another. Or was that just me? Wind gets up in the afternoons and weekend rounds can be a bit slow but not awful.
Lots of GIR at the moment but that's a good sign for the future.
Greens need attention
Played here many times. Last time I played I saw the course in the worst condition I have ever seen it. Tee boxes were tore up fairways had many large dead and dirt patches. Greens were very bumpy.
Great value and a well kept course that's not overly difficult
A friend of mine and I just played Poplar Creek and found it to be well maintained, with not a lot of places to get in trouble, but with challenging greens (fast and with breaks). We didn't have to wait at any hole (teed off at 2PM on a weekday), and finished in just under 4 hours. I like that you can't lose many balls on this course, and the bunkers are well raked. I think it's a great course for someone just starting to play on 18 hole courses to gain confidence. The people at the Pro Shop are also very nice.
Not worth the waiting....
Course is in OK shape, greens were a bit soft and splotchy in spots. Pace is rediculously SLOW! I understand this is a muni course and expect slower play, but 6 hours seems excessive. Course marshall was more concerned with blowing birthday horns to scare birds off than trying to keep groups moving at an acceptable pace.
Course is nice staff not so nice.
The man behind the counter is an absolute grouch. If his attitude is like that he should quit golf.
