Weekend pace of play must be improved
The pace of play was too slow the last two weekends I've played here. I don't know if this is true every weekend but it needs to be improved.
Grew up playing this course when it was San Mateo Muni. All the improvements made over the years make it a better, safer, layout.
Booking online with GolfNow was quick and convienient, but when I checked in at the starter's counter he had no idea why such a high rate was quoted and ended up lowering the GolfNow rate substantially.
Slow course
The course itself is ok. Well maintained and decent staff. They just let too many people on the course at once causing extremely slow play and delays. I just played on 8/30/13 and it took over 3 hours to play the front nine. After passing a group in front of me and we decided to leave after the 13th hole because the speed of play was unbearable. The Marshall's passed numerous times to scare the birds but didnt ask anyone to speed up their play.
Nice Course
Greens were in decent condition. Pace of play was okay. Been here a few times and they seem to have too many people on the course at once. Overall 7/10
slow play not worth the wait
we arrived shoes on ready to go at 6:20 for our 6:22 tee time and were bumped. The guy at the cash register was really rude. We ended up getting on an hour later. The play was super slow, we were off in just under 6 hours. The course itself is ok not interesting, and the power lines are prevalent through out the course. I would not recommend it.
Awesome Open Course
Great Course. You get your bang for your buck here. Open Flat course which is awesome. Regardless of how nice it is outside..there is always some kind of wind. The course is maintained pretty well. The only downsides are that its near an airport, freeyway and shooting range...so there is a lot of noise. but overall great course.
Bad golfers, fun course.
Fun course, but should be played quickly, took almost five hours. Stacked up behind one foursome playing from the black tees.
They were horrible.
The greens were nice and the price is right.
It seemed like there was horrible golfers all over the course.
Fairly easy course. Easy to get on. Prices fair.
I've been playing this course with my son the last couple of years and have enjoyed it. I've been injured the past year is the reason we haven't been there.
Lots of dry spots in fairways
People in clubhouse RUDE. Starter asked why we were not on tee ten minutes BEFORE tee time.
Green are challenging
Played there last Saturday morning. Had a good breakfast in the restaurant before heading out. The course is decent, few brown spots but nothing bad in playable areas. Green are good, most putt was challenging. It rolled consistent, though had to read every putt to figure out the amount of break.
Par 3s are nice & long/er (from Black tees). Few long & difficult Par 4s.
The Greens are in good condition and is very challenging(fast).
The play was very slow. That is the reason I do not play here very
often.
Staff unfriendly and rude
Talked to the head professional and he was extremely rude. Slow play, had to wait 10-15 minutes on every shot. Wouldn't recommend going here at all.
Decent course but very slow play
I wanted to sneak in one last round before leaving SF and Poplar Creek is very convenient to SFO. The course was in fine shape, but the pace of play was awful. We left after 16 holes after being on for 4 hours 20 min (11:30 to 3:50), with the group we were following having just hit to 17th green and two groups on 18, one on the green, one on the box. I believe one of the issues is that the holes are so short, many golfers needlessly wait for the green to clear before hitting, which really slows down pace of play. It's tough to recommend a course with 5 hour pace rounds on a Tuesday afternoon but maybe it was just an unlucky bounce. Overall, it was fun so I would try it again if I was in the same circumstances, but would just try to start earlier.
Forgiving course but pace of play too slow
Good wide open and forgiving course but speed of play was very frustrating. Perhaps July 5th Friday is not a good time to judge but almost 6 hours was excessive.
This course is very average to below average.
Fairway grass is spotty in places and many bunkers do not have enough sand to fairly play from them. New features seem to be on the horizen as new mounding and newly planted trees are evident.
Poplar Creek
Easy course, but interesting holes, well maintained, people were friendly. Short course, but challenging shots, greens presented a good challenge.
The greens were fantastic, very tight, fast, even and smooth.
Though a comparatively short course with moderate difficulty, its very easy to make a lot of mistakes because it is not as easy as it looks.
Overall is a fun course and a spectacular 18th hole.
Don't lose the next hole
After finished some holes, I lost my way to the next hole.
Also I felt that greens are very fast for intermediate players or biginners.
course in good shape, to close to hwy 101. Windy in pm.
fun golf. not real challenging, except for the wind. restaurant bar very good. All ran very well.
We very much enjoyed the course!
My husband and I called an hour in advance to tell the Pro Shop that we were going to be about 15 mins. late due to heavy traffic coming from Marin. They were very nice and accommodated us when we arrived. The only "glitch" was that there weren't any carts available when we were ready to tee off, but as groups came off of the 18th hole they quickly brought us a cart.
