Greens are good
Greens were nice and well maintained
Fun course
Super windy
Super windy but that just helps move the game along. Well a couple jumped in front of us on 10 and it brought the pace of play to a screaming halt. Got to believe this was with approval since they had a cart. Still we adventually finished and I would say the course is still worth playing even if a little slow and windy.
No surprises
Little over 5 hour round was expected for a Saturday. For a muni course, it was in good condition, especially the greens. Except for a few greens, the rest of the greens row very true. Windy afternoon is always expected for this course.
Morning play
If your planning on playing in morning. The back 9 gets overbooked so there is a much longer wait getting thru the back 9. Might just replay the front 9 if patience runs out.
Good Value
Poplar Creek is a reliably good round. There are a few negatives (noisy, windy, Electrical towers going across), but the course is in good shape, fairly open, challenging enough (especially as the wind comes up) and play generally moves well. Not the place to go for scenery but tough to beat for the money.
Poplar play
I love going to this course. They do such a good job of trying to keep this Muni in good shape and I appreciate that. There are enough challenges to keep the average golfer on their toes and even those that think they can play the Black Tees! :) Even though this course is typically a bit windy in the summer months we all need to learn to ignore the wind and not let it get in our heads! Staffers are all awesome folks and always a pleasure to talk to!
Good course for the money
Poplar Creek is a decent course. The workers do a good job of keeping it in good condition. And the staff is friendly.
It has some fairly easy and short holes. However there are also some holes that will challenge most golfers. The only downside is that it is a muni so the pace f play can be slow.
And the 19th hlole is always a good time
Good value
Have played this course several times. The pace of play is generally moderate to fast which is just right in my book. The course was in great shape even though the greens had been aerated recently. So putting was trying, but the rest of the course was looking good. The only challenge (as is common with many courses) is that parallel fairways often lead to folks playing out of somebody else's fairway which slows things down. A great course if you want to get around in a reasonable time period.
Hot deal is not a deal
I'm very displeased with my experience with both GolfNow and Poplar Creek today. Poplar Creek lists all of their regular tee times priced with a cart, and then when I booked a "hot deal" the cart wasn't included and I didn't notice until afterwards. I contend that if it's normally $47 with a cart, that paying $38 without a cart (40.50 with fees) is not a "hot deal" at all. To call this a special rate does a disservice to both the golf course and to GolfNow, because it creates a very dissatisfied customer. The employee of the course wasn't particularly friendly about this. Him: "Why do you think you got such a good price". Me: "It was advertised as a hot deal - I thought the good price was the deal".
As for the course, it's right off of 101 and the highway is in the background of a few holes. Power lines are in view on a handful of holes. Some of the fairways are under repair. The greens have recently been aerated. It's 6050 yards from the tips, par 70.
There are some weird angles from the tips. However, the course plays fairly and moves along at a decent pace. Very flat. Water comes into play on a few holes. Wind can play a big factor as course is wide open. Not my favorite place to play, but it's decent, it's honest, and certainly playable.
Not much good to say!
The staff has a very poor attitude. Rude service n some cases. The conditions are poor. The prices not in line with the course conditions. Changed the layout to build a less than average driving range. Bad decision.
All and all. Go somewhere else!
Staff is surly
Clubhouse staff were rude and not helpful
Need to get some more friendly peoplr
Crowded
The Marshall was rude, he kept telling my group of 3 to speed up the play but kept failing to recognize that there were groups in front of us, he told us that he already told the other groups to speed it up. We kept telling him that there are people in front of us and we had to wait as well. His response was "well I am getting yelled at by groups in the back nine" which didn't make sense because we were barely on hole 7. First time playing there and it will be our last time. The course was crowded and the Marshall was rude.
A few minor upgrades could make a difference
Needs a beverage/snack cart, more selection in the snack hut and the phone to work at the 9th.
Pop the magic Dragon
Some staff think they are more important than their guests
