Raw Georgia Beauty
The beauty of the georgia foothills is all this course! The course winds back and forth across a stream 12 times making the hazard in play on more holes than not. Frankly, I should have played one tee forward. Greens did have some disease, but understandable with the winter here. Definetly at least 4.5 stars
Course conditions still dormant
So for the golf now price this place was a good deal. The greens were in good condition but the fairways were still very brown. It had several damp areas on the fairway as well.
Played on April 23, 2014
The course was in pretty good shape considering that the bermuda still is just starting to get growing. The greens were very quick but the pace of play was great. Only waited on 3 holes before hitting our shots.
This is a very good course in the valley of the mountains and is certainly worth the trip out to Dahlonega.
Nice day
Course in good shape. Greens punched but very close. Should be perfect in couple weeks. A few bunkers have sand spilling out over edge where groomer drives in and out. Very busy on sat. Pace very slow. Until ranger got on some groups. Faster on back. Will be back. Staff very friendly. Not like some places where they act like their doing you a favor to play there.
Great layout
Winter conditions. Some spots very wet. Be ready for a fair challenge.
nice course
played in winter months, but great pace of play due to shotgun start at 11am. would highly recommend achasta. Very walkable if you wish.
Very golden bear; technical, strategic
I played as a walk on with two players that knew the course. This saved me shots when I listened to their advice. I will definitely put this course on my top ten in Georgia.
North Georgia Gem
Achasta is a great golf course. It is one of my favorites no matter what time of year you play. The staff is great and the clubhouse is very nice too. Make a trip to Dahlonega to check it out.
Great course
Love the course and the layout. Worth the drive to play this gem. Went after all the rain, a few of the holes were pretty soggy, but overall in great shape. Greens were excellent, rolling true. Will definitely be playing here again. Was able to book a hot tee time which made it worth the price.
Great Course
After much anticipation, I finally got around to playing the course that I have passed hundreds of times yet never had the opportunity to play. You'll be happy to know that the course itself was WELL worth the wait. I would recommend to anyone in the area looking for a fair challenge. I'm a long hitter, so I enjoyed the course length. The rough was thick and you are rewarded for keeping it in the fairway. The greens are large and undulating and make you work for any potential scoring opportunity. I will say, however, that the staff was less than excited to see me. If you are looking for Southern charm and hospitality, this is not the place to go. But, this is the best golf I have found in North Georgia since I started playing 17 years ago.
4.5 stars
My 1st time playing it. Blue/tournament tee, Sat. afternoon 2some. Pace was brisk.
The course is a real treat...for a mountainous region, the course is essentially flat. Its routed along the Chestatee River basin. A simple down and back layout for both 9s, but Nicklaus made a lot of interesting and enjoyable holes often using the river & it's tributaries as hole borders, and hazards to carry.
I was expecting the green complexes to have a lot more movement, but it's noted that he did not move much dirt all to create a fun, challenging course. There a few ridges, and tiers on the greens, but more gentle than most other JN courses I've played.
The conditions were good all around...I thought the FWs might be a tad soft being a river basin...they were...not really wet at all, only once or twice my ball picked up mud in the FW.
Typical JN design...even though water is a major feature in the design, he gives you ample landing areas, very playable for all levels...holes 13 thru 15 provide a great opportunity to score...a driveable par 4, followed by b-t-b par 5s that are reachable. Of course there are risks, but avid players I'm sure like that trio.
No FW visual for the 150 yd marker, which I didn't like initially, but quickly got over it....If you have not played Achasta, I would do it soon...trees are turning a beautiful color. I will be back.
Best Daily Fee Coure in North Georgia
The greens are pristine and VERY fast. The food is outstanding in the 19th hole. ALWAYS get the panini special whatever it is. Thank me later.
This is the first Jack N course I would say I totally enjoyed found no trick up holes. What you saw is what you gtt, if you miss fairway you pay.
Thsi is one of the courses I can't wait to play again!
Always a treat
Love this course. Only played it during the winter and this was my first round in the warm weather...what a fun course. Greens were rolling fast and very smooth. Love the layout while it's a forgiving course there are still some holes with trouble that can be a round buster. Worth the trip and money. I will be playing again in a few weeks.
Outstanding track!
What a well keep course, the greens were very true and rolled well. Playing from the white tee was fun. I wish they had more "hot deals". It's worth the 55minute drive.
Not worth full price
I tried this course since it was a hot deal - a Nichlaus design for under $40? - I was in. The course is a great layout and has some amazing views. Overall, in very good condition. Word of caution on weekdays - they have a scramble for the "seasoned" membership that has all tees used at around 10:30am. Very, very, very slow pace of play if you get stuck behind these retirees. It looked like the place was wide open when we finally finished at almost 4:00pm.
Great challenging course and in great condition
Achasta is a great course that was in perfect condition. Good practice facilities and a nice staff. Greens rolled well. Thoroughly enjoyed our round.
I hope Heaven is like Achasta...
This thing is a scenic monster course set down in the old gold fields of Dahlonega along the Chestatee River. Long and well bunkered - but not impossible.
Beautiful clubhouse and good food too.
