Don’t go
This course is terrible and should not be $30+ to play there. It’s so bad. The greens are like a gravel parking lot. Can’t even attempt a putt even from a few feet.
0/5 stars
Tee time for my group was at 8:10, nobody showed up at the clubhouse until 8:20. Not even a half-hearted apology from the gentleman upon arrival, which was a bit strange but honestly fine at the time - we were just happy to be able to play some golf.
As others have said, these are the worst greens I have ever seen. Literally impossible to putt. Even still, we were just happy to be able to play a round of golf and work on our ball striking.
The kicker came when we completed our first nine holes and the same gentleman who showed up late refused to allow us to play our last nine holes, even after we showed our receipt from GolfNow which clearly stated we paid to play 18.
Thankfully GolfNow did their part to help rectify the situation with credits toward a future round. However, the gentleman at the front desk was rude and unhelpful to paying customers who had proof they paid for 18 holes. No way to conduct business.
Bottom line, don't waste your time and hard-earned money at this place.
Disappointing
Being early in the season on March 6th I didn't expect a lot of grass in the fairways. There was very little on the greens as well I can only be call one grain that had 90% grass. It was like playing on the surface of potholes. While clearing more area along the fairways will improve conditions in the future the fencing and posts left in the fairway on 3 holes was unacceptable. Most obvious evidence that participants left behind was failure to rake the traps .poor ethics .
Don't waste your time/money
You are probably considering John A White because you waited until the day before or the day of to make a tee time and nothing else is available. If you are considering playing here, do yourself a favor and stay home. We teed off over an hour late because they didn't have enough carts. The greens look more like sand traps. No rangers so there were groups with zero golf etiquette on pace for 6 hour rounds. Had to play thru people who have no business being on a golf course. Worst golf experience I've ever had, never again.
Terrible
Arrived at 12:50 For our 1pm tee time. The guy running the shop said they had no more carts for anyone and we all had to wait (there were several other groups that had been waiting for an earlier tee time). They didn’t keep any logs of who was up for the next cart so there were arguments about who was next because of the lack of professionalism and leadership. Finally got on the course around 2 and safe to say it was the worst kept course I’ve ever played on. Greens were like putting on mars, sand traps were like landfills, and there were random raw materials throughout the course. Would not recommend.
The course that was left to die
Did I have fun? Yes because I’ve never seen a course that aged. Do you know it’s a great course when there are kids practicing in the middle of it.
The greens are brown and very dead.
We play 18 holes with cart for $15. Enough said
I have to speak on the greens. They were horrible at best.
I really love to support John A White and The 1st Tee but I can’t get over how bad the greens were. Boxes were ok - fairways were decent
Greens in terrible shape
Really disappointed to see John A White go so far downhill. Used to be a really fun little 9 in town but the greens are so bad I would describe them as unplayable. Pro shop staff member even proactively told us they were in rough shape when we checked in and said that they haven't had a greenskeeper for a few months. I hope it gets better during the off-season, but for now, it isn't worth play here even at a steep discount.
A hot mess.
Under no circumstances should you attempt to book a Saturday morning tee time using this app. There is always a cluster F on Saturday mornings and the staff is always frustrated and borderline rude. The fairways are nice and sand traps are unique. But the greens are always awful.
Nevertheless, during the week it’s a nice inner city respite for practice or a relaxing 9.
Reasonable
The fairways were decent in spite of the amount of rain we had been experiencing. However the majority of greens were in bad shape. There wasn't grass on some of them. We putted on dirt on choppy grass.
Always Confusion and Issues
I have played this course only 3 or 4 times and there seems to always be confusion or some sort of issue with the team working in the pro shop. This time I found a hot deal on GolfNow for 18 holes (9 hole course) at a really low rate but when I turned to go around for second 9 holes the team at the pro shop stopped me and informed me the rate was for only 9 holes and GolfNow always advertise it at 18 incorrectly. At that point I just wasn’t in the mood for a long discussion as the rate I paid wasn’t worth the hassle. It was obvious the real issue was they needed the two carts to accommodate other golfers waiting. With the course in such poor conditions and the consistent confusion from the club house team, I will no longer visit this course again.
