Bear Creek Golf Club
About
Monroe's Bear Creek Golf Club is situated in the heart of Walton County. It's less than an hour from Atlanta, making it a conveniently close getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. The course originally opened in 1990 but in 2008 it changed ownership and underwent a major renovation that elevated its conditions to rival that of any of the area's best golf courses. The bunkers were rebuilt and re-sanded and the fairways were re-conditioned. Bear Creek G.C. has always been known for its excellent greens, which have a reputation for being some of the state's finest putting surfaces. The layout measures 6,585 yards from the back tees, which may seem short but there are some ups and downs throughout that will make it feel much longer.

GOOD CHALLENGE - GOOD PRICE
While the cart paths are in need of much work, the course itself is in pretty good shape and very playable. The layout is a fair challenge, the fairways in good condition, the tee boxes in decent condition except for a couple, the traps all seemed to be in decent shape and the greens although aerated rolled true. Having played over 700 different courses worldwide, I would put this course at this time on par with 80% of the courses.
Nice Course -
Played on Memorial Day and was very pleased with the pace of play. I think maybe the predicted rain (which never showed up) kept some off the course. Enjoyable day.
This course is under repair
In all fairness the greens had just been punched and sanded. The fairway was nice. The cart path was brutal and the staff was friendly.
I’ll be back
The only reason I did not give the course condition a 5 was because the cart paths are awful but the parts that really count , the fairways and greens, were great. Just had one green that was messed up in the very back. A bit odd to have a 80 yard par 3 and hit off mats but it was my only birdie so no complaints from me.
,The staff was kind and it was nice to have some time to play. Unfortunately, first-time players had uncomfortable milestones and some places didn't have a tee box mark.
Disappointing
Had 8:10 tee time and was pressured to start at 7:45 by to course marshal.
I to explained to him we had a player 5 minutes out and we didn't mind playing up if he wouldn't mind waiting a few minutes. Then he popped off and said if he's not here in 5 minutes we're going to have to bump your group back to 10AM, again we had an 8:10 tee time and it's 7:45
I never played this course and was excited because it's only being 6 minutes from the house. The front nine flowed very nice but the back nine look to have been an after thought.
The biggest complaint was that there was a single player and a group of four in front of us. Great group of guys! A little slow play but great people. That being said, our group waited for them to at least get on the green before we teed off, but we didn't get the same courtesy from the group behind us. Kept driving up on us on the fairway. My experience and the guys I brought experience as a first time attendee was horrible. Would never go back.
Its work in progree
The staff is friendly, the snack hut is trying.
The course is changing things around it appears.
I will give them another shot in 6 months that should be them time ti finish the changes.
Greens too slow and tee boxes lots of dirt
The greens needs to be faster and shorter to make the course more respectable. Also the tee boxes weee put in areas that were pretty much dirt and beat up. More time needs to be spent on improving tee box conditions. Nobody wants to tee off on dirt.
Condition of course
Greens in good shape. Fairways and tees not so much .
Both fun and disappointing
I would have to start with the good. The course is in good shape, the layout is good, greens are in good shape, tee boxes need work.
Now the bad. The 5min start times between groups is a bad idea. Even during the week it’s bad, so I could only image it on a weekend. This does nothing but cause slow play and especially when you mix in 2somes. The course hole directional signage is horrible, especially if you’ve never played here before. Players beware.
Over booked and no marshal
The pace they allow people to play at is diabolical. You come through nine headed to ten just to be behind five foursomes. They need a marshal dictating the pace of play making people skip holes they normal things marshals do. If you don't over book you don't have these problems everyday they over book take your money somewhere else.
Come tackle the Bear
Course always in good condition. Staff very professional and courteous. Sometimes on the weekends pace of play can be an issue but the marshal always get them moving.
