Bear Creek Golf Club

About
Monroe's Bear Creek Golf Club is situated in the heart of Walton County. It's less than an hour from Atlanta, making it a conveniently close getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. The course originally opened in 1990 but in 2008 it changed ownership and underwent a major renovation that elevated its conditions to rival that of any of the area's best golf courses. The bunkers were rebuilt and re-sanded and the fairways were re-conditioned. Bear Creek G.C. has always been known for its excellent greens, which have a reputation for being some of the state's finest putting surfaces. The layout measures 6,585 yards from the back tees, which may seem short but there are some ups and downs throughout that will make it feel much longer.

Both fun and disappointing
I would have to start with the good. The course is in good shape, the layout is good, greens are in good shape, tee boxes need work.
Now the bad. The 5min start times between groups is a bad idea. Even during the week it’s bad, so I could only image it on a weekend. This does nothing but cause slow play and especially when you mix in 2somes. The course hole directional signage is horrible, especially if you’ve never played here before. Players beware.
Over booked and no marshal
The pace they allow people to play at is diabolical. You come through nine headed to ten just to be behind five foursomes. They need a marshal dictating the pace of play making people skip holes they normal things marshals do. If you don't over book you don't have these problems everyday they over book take your money somewhere else.
Come tackle the Bear
Course always in good condition. Staff very professional and courteous. Sometimes on the weekends pace of play can be an issue but the marshal always get them moving.
All good till the end
The greens were in great shape. Fairways were good coming out of winter. Love the lay out of this course. It provides a good mix of hole challenges to make you think about what shots to play. Club house staff was friendly. Pace of play was grinding on the back 9. All came to a halt on 18 with 4 groups waiting for the tee box. Unfortunately 30 minutes on the last hole of the day.
too slow
I know its Saturday and alot of not great golfers, but if you can't be good at least be quick about it.
We waited on every single hole and there was open space for the group ahead of us. Never saw a marshall that might have been able to ask the group to speed it up a bit....
We gave up after 16 holes... we couldn't take it any longer and had dinner plans. But for a course this basic, you should not be looking at 5+ hour round.
Great fun, lots of potential
I played here for the first time in April 2025. It was a fun layout and moderately difficult with sloping fairways and elevation. They are doing some course changes so the layout is a little odd right now but i can see the potential. The greens were in fantastic shape, which is always a big plus. It was early in the year so the fairways were very firm and not as lush as they will be later in the spring. I want to come back in a month or so or even this time next year to se the great changes coming to fruition.
Clown Show
No carts ready. Cart washers didn’t care. Members jumped in with no tee time. Starter was lost. Had to wait for two other groups on every hole. Gave up after 11 and left.
Disappointed
I played Bear Creek again and came away disappointed again.. It is a shame because it could be a decent course if the experience was better.
First off I got a Hot Deal and that made the course reasonably priced for what you get. If that was it then I would be ok but the course charged me an assault $20 so my wife , who does not play, could ride with me. I think that's very petty. It's not like they are short of carts. I would be curious if I could book a regular tee time and deduct $40 if I wanted to walk and not ride in a cart..
Then the only food available was $5 hot dogs with no toppings at all except mustard and ketchup.
Totally ridiculous. My days of playing Bear Creek are over. 85 really is a shame because I like the course itself and the layout. But the rest of the experience is not worth it
..
I used to enjoy this course.
From our "scheduled" tee time, it took us 6 hours and 10 minutes to finish our round. I booked on Wednesday amd tee times were 10 minutes apart. We showed up this morning to an absolute log jam at the first tee only to find out groups had been booked since at 5 minutes apart. Went to go buy some range balls, machine was empty. Pace of play was terrible, our cart backfired and stalled on us numerous times. The group in front of us had a flat tire on their cart and luckily realized it while waiting in the traffic jamb for the first tee. Most tee boxes were dirt. The sign that said 16th hole was actually the 15th hole.
The whole day was just ridiculous and I used to love playing here, actually thought about joining last year. Very glad I didn't.
Disappointed is an understatement. Highlight of the day was the sweet lady working at the counter. Otherwise a pure cluster.
I won’t ever play here again.
I grew up in this neighborhood. I worked here in high school. I have continued time and time again to play at this course against my better judgment. I had a 950 tee time today. Myself and 2 playing partners teed off at 950. While the woman I was playing with was on the tee we were rode up on by a group of 5 who stated they were playing through as they were with the group ahead of us who was also a group of 3. We didn’t really have a choice to let them play through as the one guy named Sam was speaking to us his group was teeing up balls and playing. I contacted the clubhouse and asked for a marshal and was met with immediate pushback. I explained the situation and my answer was,” it’s best just to let those guys do whatever they want. “ it took over 20 minutes for my group to complete the hole and then my partner contacted the clubhouse to see if we could just move to the back nine which they obliged. When it was explained to the staff in the clubhouse that we couldn’t have a 6 hour round of golf due to slow play and the mismanagement of tee times as the reason for that we were told “ no refunds, no rain checks”. Sam and his fellow group of rude old men were obviously regulars at this course and to be so bold to act in the manner they did, it was obviously not the first time they’ve done it, and it’s not the first time the clubhouse has been told. Today is my 31st birthday and was my playing partners 61st birthday. It took 3 hours for us to make it through 10 holes of golf. When we were finishing hole 18 there were 4 carts and 8 patrons on the tee waiting to tee off, a group of 4 on the green, and a group of 5 on the tee box of hole 2. While myself and my father were considering membership here I assure you I will never return. If anyone from the course would like to contact me. My tee time was at 950 and I booked through GolfNow. My contact information is on here and the paperwork I filled out on the cart sheet. Though I doubt I will be contacted.
