Good Course
Played Fairways when it first opened and vowed I would never go back; It was the HARDEST course in the Atlanta area, IMO. I decided to go back several times thereafter, and came to love the course, as I felt if I could play here, I could play anywhere.
The course closed a while back and was "softened" considerably. When I played it after the changes, I thought it was considerably easier, but I actually missed the original design.
OK, now I've come to appreciate FOC for the course it is today. When I played the greens may well be the best in Atlanta. Flawless......
The fairways are like all bermuda fairways; Dormant and bare during the winter. I hate playing "winter" rules, and rolling the ball, but if you can live with that, and you probably should, you'll have a great time at FOC.
Another favorite
A friend of mine said they really brought this course back to life. I loved it. It's in a beautiful area with some great views of the foothills. Several of the holes were challenging. There is an awesome par 3 that requires you to hit way, way down onto the green. Nice facilities and excellent greens.
Very fun course, tight but fair with great greens and views.
This is a couse you will want to play several times. Ball placement off the tee is critical, but well hit shots are rewarded with numerous birdie opportunities. The greens are well maintained and have lots of undulation, but roll true and fast.
The views off 17 green and 18 tee are worth the price of admission. A great value and lots of fun.
this course is not as hilly as most courses in ga
the greens were hard but cut evenly fairways were fairly soft
. person at counter gave me a hard time with the booking from golfnow
Awesome course!
I love this course, the whites play short so stick with a hybrid or in my case an iron to keep it on the fairways and out trouble.
Once you are the green the real fun begins with multi tier greens. take your time here and enjoy. Don't be upset when your strokes start adding up here, these greens are definitely technical.
I'm already thinking of coming back and playing from the Blues for more a challenge which will be fun indeed.
Played in the off season
I can't wait to play this course during an 'in season' time frame. Played blues, holes not long, Par 5s easy in 2...Play blacks next time. But playing up, used 3 Hybrid (230yds) and it played nicely. I would recommend this course. Better than Cobblestone - I am from Michigan and was visiting the area near Atlanta.
Nice layout, tricky greens
Only had time to play the front nine, but we had a great time. Senior tees (white) were challenging for seniors and juniors without being overly long. The other tees would be very challenging for stronger golfers. Course conditions were very good. Greens were kind of crazy - the speed and slope made it impossible to lag long putts close.
Real nice place to play.
Very friendly staff, very nice faciltiy and lovely course. Plenty of challenge but reasonable too. Greens are an experience you won't want to miss.
The staff was unkind. The layout is interesting and the green is fast enough.
You make sure to bring a confirmation. The staff is unkind. The layout is interesting and the green is fast enough.
A Different type course to play
A wide variety of different types of holes. Be prepared to think about the shot you want to hit.
#9 fairway inside 150 yd area needs to be leveled...unfair sopes both on rigth and left sides
Deceptively tough due to: multiple tiered greens on most holes
Not a course for one time play
This course is advertised as a short course with hidden difficulty. If by hidden difficulty they mean unexplained boulders in the fairway or several greens with unreasonable rises to pin placement level, then I guess they are correct. The greens themselves are in great condition. They are just more like greens you would find in the neighborhood putt putt. No windmills, but unless you played this course 20 times, you couldn't possibly play well on this type of setup. Nice people, great views, just too much gadget golf.
Great course
This course has something for everyone. Errand drives could cause you problems on some holes while not posing a hugh threat on others. The fairways are well maintained and the greens are very fast. Add in the scenic views and you'll have a nice outing.
Fairways of Canton
This course is pretty new to the area, but fits in very well. I play here a couple times a month, due to the fact they have local coupons that make it very cheap to play. Considering that its still maturing as a course the condition has to be overlooked some times. By this I mean they scalp the greens quite often, and the tees are rock hard. There have been a couple times where we couldn't even stand on our tees to put them in the ground. Suffice to say the greens are usually pretty firm as well, but that's not some thing I consider a con. There is a ton of elevation changes on this course, and the layout plays well for both lefties and righties. They took a lot of bunkers out, so it plays a little easier now. Hole three is the only hole on the course that truly makes you play along/over water. However, holes 9 and 18 have water around half the green which can be very challenging due to the fact its generally windy on the course. I would have to say that the 18th would have to be their signature hole. You feel like you're on top of a mountain from which you tee from, which plays into a dog-leg left, with the green surrounded by water and a couple bunkers. Oh and did I mention that most of the greens have at least two tiers? Some even have 3 tiers! Overall I give this course a 4 out 5 because its a great layout and will only get better with time!
This could be a great course
The course was crowded, we could get no rhythm of play. Hit the ball wait 5+ minutes for the people ahead of us to play, hit the ball wait etc. The fairways were nice, but the greens were so scared up that reading them was an issue.
With as many people on the course I would have expected a course ranger to be around but we never saw one, never saw a drink cart either.
Love tHe course's scenic views.
Front nine very challenging. Some pin placements extremely challenging to the point of being punishing for the average player.
Great Value!
Interesting layout. Par 3's very challenging. Gotta think your way around this tract. Multilevel greens difficult if your on the wrong level. Will definitely play again.
Very nice course
Nice course. Wonderful views, Challenging with some up and down play. Very well maintained. A few very tough holes. Overall a pleasant experience.
A good challenging but rewarding course.
I've played this course since it opened. It was caught up in the economic downturn and at one time fell into disrepair. In recent months they have done a spectacular job of getting the course back into shape. No wonder, with the gorgeous views and beautiful layout, someone just couldn't let it go to waste. A big THANK YOU to whomever that was. You have made many golfers very happy. And if you've never played there you owe it to yourself to try it. You want regret it, you will probably be drawn to play it again and again.
