The Groves Golf Course
About
Editor's Note: The course is temporarily closed.
Designed by Arthur Hills, the Groves Golf Course may be a "short" course but it's still a challenge. It's one of three courses operated by Meadows Country Club. With a layout that sprawls across more than 50 acres, the par-63 layout feels more like a championship par-72 course. The layout is comprised of nine par 4s, eight par 3s, and one par 5. The course rewards accuracy and good shot placement, meaning it's not strength that matters but being able to strategize. The seventh hole is a memorable par 3 that appears simple enough thanks to a massive and seemingly inviting green, but the problem isn't hitting the green but getting your shot on the same level as the pin. There is a 5-foot slope that runs through the green, the severity of which is matched only by some of the greens at Augusta National.

Perfect for not long hitters
Challenging but mostly short holes. Nice layout and greens in very good condition.
Great improvement
We stopped playing the Groves course a few years back due to the poor condition of the course & the driving range Adjacent to the last fairway ...we heard that the course had been returned to its original layout & decided to check it out...
Huge improvement & the staff is very proud to highlight the changes.....we will return !
Rehab outstanding
We have always enjoyed Groves as a great place to work on short game.
BUT
Just reopened after major overhaul. And the course is awesome, fairways great, new green super, could actually make puts as greens play fair and not stupid silly Florida crap..
The par 5 9, sweet layout, runs where driving range use to be.
the 8 and 16 shared green, nice landing areas over the pond.
Arthur Hills design is back to life.
Well done, thank you.
Bad shape
Poor condition very slow greens tees all dirt and greens in bad shape Bumpy slow and Sandy
real skill
This course may be somewhat short , but make no mistake, if you want to score well you better bring your A game. The greens were not in great shape , and the fairway grass was almost non existent, but the layout and real challenge of this course would bring me back .The rate I paid was great and really made it worth the experience.
Gone downhill
Having played this course in March for the last five years, we have noticed a steady decline in the condition of the course. This year, many greens were nearly unplayable due to a lot of damage and sand, the tee boxes had very little grass or even weeds to put your tee into and the fairways were bare in places. Some repairs were just chunks of turf thrown over the problem, some bunkers have been filled in with turf but instead of levelling it off and seeding it properly, squares of turf have been thrown into the bunkers and not even joined up, so it looks more like stepping stones!! The remaining bunkers have not had any new sand in for a long time and some looked as though they’ve not been thoroughly raked in a good while.
It’s such a shame, as this was a lovely little course to play, to shake the rust off and get back into playing. Unless there are major improvements, we will not be playing it for a sixth year. You can play far better for your money.
Fun short course, but the greens need work
I’ve played here several times over the past five or six years. I usually play on the Highlands course, but I wanted to squeeze in an afternoon round so I went to the Groves. It’s a fun layout and you have a lot of options with your iron shots. You can leave the three wood and driver at home. Unfortunately, the greens were in absolutely terrible shape. All 18 pins had patches of thick green sand and dead patches around them. If you want a quick 18 and want to work on shaping some iron shots I recommend this course. But don’t expect to be making any putts.
Fun course for the money
Great layout , fun course to play but condition of greens are horrible. Good course to practice short game, price is right
Good and bad features
Well laid out design. The course is in poor condition although you can see that work is being done to attempt improvements.
Challenging to find the right course
Irrespective of the quality of the course, advance directions from the pro shop, on-line google map location, and even verbal directions from the adjacent courses were all incorrect. But the golf was good and the $6 lunch was a good price.
Fun Layout
Little rough around the edges. Some greens were excellent and some were spotty. Overall had fun.
