The Groves Golf Course
About
Editor's Note: The course is temporarily closed.
Designed by Arthur Hills, the Groves Golf Course may be a "short" course but it's still a challenge. It's one of three courses operated by Meadows Country Club. With a layout that sprawls across more than 50 acres, the par-63 layout feels more like a championship par-72 course. The layout is comprised of nine par 4s, eight par 3s, and one par 5. The course rewards accuracy and good shot placement, meaning it's not strength that matters but being able to strategize. The seventh hole is a memorable par 3 that appears simple enough thanks to a massive and seemingly inviting green, but the problem isn't hitting the green but getting your shot on the same level as the pin. There is a 5-foot slope that runs through the green, the severity of which is matched only by some of the greens at Augusta National.

Short course layout
My wife and I played the Meadows CC Grove course today. The course is in need of more upkeep. It appears that they are trying to get it in better playing condition. It was in decent shape and we will play it again, however there are a lot of nice courses in the Sarasota Bradenton area for the same cost. Overall we had a very nice time today at the Groves course.
Fun short course.
Unfortunately, The Meadows CC has really let this course go. They have tried to sod over some sand traps and are trying to keep the green in decent shape, but that is about it. Obviously the Meadows cannot afford to refurbish The Groves. It's a shame.
A fun course
This is a fun, yet challenging layout. There is plenty of water, sand and difficult lies. There are many sloping, undulating greens, which make for many three-putts. Fairways are pretty tight, for the most part. The only poor aspect of the layout is on the 10th and 18th holes. The 9th hole was reconfigured to carve out a driving range, resulting in a severely shortened 9th hole, and the need for golfers finishing the 18th hole to drive down the 10th fairway while others are playing it, to get back to the clubhouse. Seriously dumb! A few of the greens were unhealthy and in need of repair. On the good side was that the green fees were so low as to make you wonder how they make any money. Talk about good value for the money!
Course Condition
I have been playing here for nine years this is the worst I have ever seen it,it will be a long time before I go back.
Fun par 3 courser
I am from Sarasota and this is the best short course in the area. My wife tires easily and 9 holes on a moderate course is about it for her. Nice course with a few difficult holes and plenty of water.
Over booked
Overbooked 3 groups waiting on one tee box Quit after 3rd hole. Aggravating . No way to enjoy golf. Shame on them for treating their patrons like that. Love the layout , fun course but to crowed
The Groves Sarasota
Terrible condition. Fairways are like cement, greens need a lot of work, looks like they gave up on this course, definitely neglecting it, Price may look good, in this case you get what you pay for, a neglected golf course.
good course
good course , some real tricky holes, very slow front nine...was a great day of golf .....
Not much fun
Groves is a short course which compresses a lot of full length course challenges into tight spaces, creating far too many unfair shots for most golfers. I have played the course a couple of times over the last several years, and each time I come away muttering to myself. Yesterday, I finally realized that it is a course I do not like and will not play again.
Brutal
Brutal fairways....crappy greens.....stopped after 9
Good value
Always like playing this course, friendly layout. Really nice to see a 12ft alligator next to the tee box on hole 11. Course conditions could be better.
