Crescent Oaks Country Club
About
Located just north of Tampa in Tarpon Springs, Crescent Oaks Country Club sprawls across rolling hills dotted with sparkling lakes. The narrow course has a traditional layout that was carefully carved from dense woodlands, making it a challenging test. The lakes as well as a meandering creek come into play throughout the golf course. There are also a few strategically placed bunkers along the greensides. The par-5 10th is one of the most memorable holes with an elevated green and a ridge cutting across the middle. Par is considered a good score on this tricky hole. The golf course finishes with a par-4 dogleg left that features water along the entire left side of the fairway. The green is also protected by sand on the right and water on the opposite side.

Nice course
Pace was good, 4hrs 10min, staff super friendly. Greens was in great shape! Fairways a little thin for my liking, but the best fairways I have played in February down here!
Good course, good staff
Crescent Oaks is a nice layout. It is long and there is more sand traps than most courses. Unfortunately the sand there isn't the white powdery kind that gives you a clean shot to get out. Somewhat frustrating. Fairways in excellent shape, tee boxes in good shape, greens in good shape but very fast and hard. It's better to hit approach shots short than to land in the middle of the green, ball tends to roll off the back. They have a good starter so if you are a single they will pair you. On this particular Tuesday I played there were many 4 -somes and a mixed league but they were playing fast enough that was able to play 18 in 3 hours 45 minutes which is pretty good but that's because this 3 some in front of us let us play through.
Great course to play
Overall liked the conditions compared to couple other courses I had played. Challenging course especially in the back 9. Friendly staff
Would play again i when back in Tampa
Great shape
Course was in the best condition of any course we’ve had played in the last month. Fast greens that ran true. Great layout. The pace of play for the first 9 was great. Made the turn to find a single had fit in between us and the group in front, which were in the fairway. So not only did we have to wait on the front group, but on this single as well. Pace on the final 9 was 1/2 hour longer. I don’t believe the course would sanction this, so we assumed the guy missed the signs that play started on the back.
Worthwhile playing
I booked my tee time as a single on the GolfNow app. The entry to the course is a little strange, given that when you pull into it, there’s no signage to tell you where to go to check in with the pro shop. Nevertheless, figured it out, picked up some range balls, my golf cart, and started what turned out to be an excellent day of golf. They have a small driving range, and you have to hit from mats, which was disappointing. There’s also a dedicated chipping area, and a putting green. They sent me out as a single, but the twosome in front of me asked me to join them on the first hole, and I agreed. They were great company. The course is in good shape. Everything you’ve heard about their greens is true. They are very fast. And there are some tiny greens. And I mean tiny.. The course does not play long from the white tees, which I ended up doing so that I was hitting from the same tees as the twosome I was playing with. Next time I would play the blues. They got new golf carts a couple weeks ago, and they’re very nice. Water does come into play on several holes, so hitting the proper club off the tee is important. No shame in hitting a mid iron off the tee on a par four, when the hole itself is only 320 yards long. There are some holes you just cannot hit your driver off the tee box if you’re playing the whites. Overall, a very enjoyable round of golf. Not stupidly priced like some of the other public golf courses. I would highly recommend it, especially if you get a hot deal from GolfNow.
Dried out course, ok greens.
The people were very nice, a decent practice area. I think if the course had some rain, it could come back nicely. I think I would like to play it once they get some rain.
good shape good value
The course is in good shape considering the draught. This is my 7th course I have played in the area since Jan 3rd. I would say they are doing a good job keeping the Greens cut and fast. There fairways are in great shape compared to 4 other burned out and dirt. No issue with finding the grass. They have new carts with GPS. I have heard of issue with the GPS being to sensitive. I had none. The carts are great! I will get back to it in a few weeks and play again.
The only real setback was the GPS on the cart
we would be 3' off the fairway and the cart would stop and make us back up, not just once but probably 15 times. it even happened while we were on the cart path. Other than the cart issues our round was very enjoyable
HONEST Unbiased Review
Lets start with the good.... the really good.... the GREAT. THESE GREENS ARE AMAZING. I was floored at how good they are. The roll perfect and are lightening fast (probably around a 12-13 on the stemp) They were cut down and very very smooth.... I just cant say enough about them.
I used to be a member here 25 years ago. It was 100% private back then and always in good shape. Since I moved away, I heard it has been sold a couple times but never returned to its great condition. My buddy told me the new owners were really making an effort to improve the course, so I decided to give it a try. $100 was on the lower end and they had availability on a couple days notice, so I was looking forward to playing here.
I started off with the best... the greens. Nothing left to say about that.
The staff was amazing... all around.
Pace was good and we saw the ranger 4-5 times over the course of our round. Took us just over 4 hours, but we had two 25+ handicappers in our group, so we were not playing too fast, but also did not hold anyone up. The course was booked solid, but the pace was good.
Layout is good and you can choose the tee's the suit your game. It is a shot makers course..... lots of hazards, but not overly long from the standard tees.
I do not want to be negative on the tee boxes and fairways due to the extremely cold weather lately. almost everything is dormant and the fairways and tee boxes are not what I believe they normally are. I bet this place will be a perfect 5 in the spring once they lay some seed and the grass grows.
You can see the improvements they have made around the course..... I give them alot of credit because they are really making an effort and it is evident.
Here is the only bad.... really bad. The new carts (which are great) have a geofence program the limits where the carts can go. They are WAY off......We were 12 inches off the fairway and the cart stops and starts beeping. You are required to put the cart in reverse and get back into the allowed area, and it takes time for the cart to even move. This happened no less than 25 times during our round. To be fair, I had read about this in the previous reviews, but those were a month or two ago and i figured they had it resolved... they don't. I would think this is an easy fix, but for some reason it has not been addressed.
The only other real negative is the rakes they have around the sand traps. For those of us that take pride in raking bunkers after we hit out of them, a good rake is a good incentive. Cheap and broken rakes explain why some traps were not properly raked. I am guessing the new owners have not idea that this is even an issue, but would imagine now that they know new rakes will be there soon.
In short.... I would play here again in a flash, just as it was today. The greens were that good and the cart issues and rakes were irritating, but did not take away from a GREAT day.
good choice
Able to get tee time on a Friday at 11:30 so booked it. turned out great course in very nice gated community. Relaxed pace, but great holes with interesting risk rewards on each. Definitely play it again when in the Palm Harbor/ Dunedin area.
