As Expected for $50
Greens are in good condition, bu the rest of the course is not recovering well from the rains. Plenty of unmown rough, patchy bald spots and mud. Expect to take a minute trying to find a level stance on the tee boxes. The facilities and carts (still gas powered) are slowly decaying with no visible improvements over the last 10 years. I played the Cypress side.
Turkey shoot the Cook.
Really nice day and after a foggy cool start we warmed up to a very pleasurable round. Had my daughter with me who is just getting going on playing vs just hitting balls. It really set up perfect for her and made it easy to get around, Only issue I always have is with their kitchen at the turn. If you want a hot dog, no problem, anything else 15 -25 minutes. It's almost like they are surprised you want something now and don't have the time to wait. Am looking at this course for a possible tournament with my club.
pretty wide open course
Usually this course is on the windy side but the day we played, weather was great!! The fairways was ok but the greens were in great shape! Its important to hit the fairways if you're a ave hitter but if you're long off the tee, there's some holes that'll you'll love!
Such A Shame
I've played this course many, many times, as it is one of the closest to home. It is much easier than the lengthy Palm course, but the course is not without it's own set of challenges. #1 starts you off with a layup off the tee followed by a likely blind approach to the green. #4 plays longer than it's yardage, and the green is a tough target to hit, and putt on. #8 is clearly the most difficult on the course. The tee shot requires a miracle to be left in a good position. The approach is just as tough. The back half of the course is much more forgiving than the front. The design of the course is interesting and the clubhouse is great. My only wish is that they would sink some more money into the conditions. The fairways are riddled with dead grass and weeds, and the green grass that's there is cut far too short, so you are playing the ball off of the ground. Greens are usually pretty good, and the tee boxes are the one spot on the course that the grass is too long. It's a real shame that more care is not put into this course, because it really could be a great play. Too often I'm willing to overpay to play this course simply because it's close and I don't feel like driving an hour for a much better value. So I guess they have me. But honestly if you take away the convenience of it's location, and judge it on it's conditions alone, this course is worth about half of what it charges. Such a shame, originally this was one of two fantastic courses, but cutbacks in quality upkeep leave this as a disappointing play.
Sunol Cypress Course
Greens a bit bumpy and many of them seem to be the size of temp. greens.
The fairways are nicely designed, and there is a terrible drought, so I can't be too upset. That said, many of the fairways are 30% dirt. At $57 I'd rather play Sunnyvale for $45 or spend $75 to play Coyote Creek.
Every golf day is a good day
I moved to San Diego, 17 years ago..so that is how long it has been since playing this course. We played the Cypress and was very pleased....the greens were very receptive, and rolled true all day. Course seemed much better than years ago in terms of conditions. For the price a nice deal and would play again anytime.
Not that great
I know we are in a drought but the area around the green should be grass. there was a half a dozen greens that the apron of the green was dirt. You should be rewarded for making a good shot not punished.
Greens are in good condition
Will come back and play again. It has all the challenge in play. Need to manage your shots.
Such a user freiendly course
fairway aren't perfect because of the lack of water but I have experianced that most places lately with the drought, greens were fine, still better then most and for a round thats relaxing its hard to beat.No fuss about my wife riding with me,most want you to pay for another rider even though the cart would still cost the same with one.Very enjoyable atmosphere, beautiful scenery and again a fun round could shoot two balls and play both out not crowded.I will certainly go again
Sunol-Palm
very windy conditions on the Palm course. Tees were back and made this a very long track
2 courses to choose from
I have played Sunol for over 10 years and it is always challenging. It is centrally located for our foursome with members coming from San Leandro, Danville, Palo Alto and Los Altos. This round I took my son and son in law and we had a good time. It felt like we had the course to ourselves since our tee time was around 1 o'clock. It was a bit windy. We got to witness an outdoor wedding from afar as we came in on holes 17 and 18 on their Palm Course.
Sunol Cypress Course
We played a day after a heavy rain. The course was in very good shape considering how much it rained Friday. It was also extremely windy so I wasn't planning on wearing winter gear in April. The greens were running good considering they had been plugged a month earlier. It played much different than a tournament I played in July but all in all a fun round of golf.
Fairly easy round enjoyed the course
Had a great day on cypress. The course is easy to manage with a couple exceptions. was surprised very few golfers were out there. It was a 3 hour and 15min round. With my friend. This was right after the rains and aeration so the greens were soft and a bit slow. I will be back later on once dried out.
Tees and Greens, Oh my!
Tees and greens in great shape, greens can be surprisingly fast even though they look soft...fairways were pretty dry (water conservation) but are mostly open and easy to hit. Some green fronts are guarded by trees, making the approach shot challenging....good course layout, elevation changes make you think about most shots...fun round...food in club house was also good...
Single. Tee time not honored
Showed up more then 10min before tee .
Staff told me to come back 30-45 min later . Noticed both courses were backed up with 8-10 carts queued up.
Looked like I would not get in for more then an hour.
In the past I was given a cart upon arrival .
Looked like both courses overbooked.
Relaxed round
I played at Snol Palm course. My tee time was before noon. When I arrived the course, it was really crowded because of frost delay. And my tee time delayed around 20 minutes. And unfortunately, the pace was really slow on that day. We were waiting at Tee ground every time. Then finally, we finished 18 holes just after sunset.
Ok track for the money
Haven't played this course for several years. Course in average /winter conditions. Greens good shape fairways a little rough.
Good course
I played palm course. Tee is mostly in the back of the green. Relatively long for Sunol setup
