Nice course and friendly staff.
Played here during the early morning hours of 5/4/13. My only complaint would be that the grounds staff had just finished watering on some holes and on one Par 3 we had to wait 5 minutes for them to turn the water off. Other than that, we had fun and the course was in pretty good shape.
Course was normal for a weekend, just a slow foursome in front of us
Overall a good day of golf with weather being somewhat windy but that is normal for this course.
needs some repair work on some of the green edges
nice course, great people. some rough edges around a few of the greens
this course is player friendly
Course is in pretty good shape considering the amount of play that it receives. Greens a little hairy but puttable. Overall, this course is a nice course for beginners to practice on.
Fun course to play. The Palm is long at 6865 yards and many of the longer holes play into the wind.
Played on a Friday at 12:30 PM and played 18 in under 4 hours!
Enough length and elevation change to make up for the "wide openness" of the course and give it some difficulty.
The greens were a bit bumpy but other than that the course was in good condition.
Very nice course except the fairway is very compact...feels that there is no grass
Very nice course except the fairway is very compact...feels that there is no grass. Can not take a divot. And when you hit ahead of the ball...whole body vibrates because of the very compact fairway. But the greens are good. Not sure if will play there again.
Decent Course
The greens were aerated early April and were very inconsistent.
Other than that the course was in good shape.
I not a gardener but even if they were aerated 3 weeks ago they could be cut consistent so one green isnt fast and the next slow.
Course needs work
I was dismayed to discover that the greens had been aerated two weeks prior but were still unputtable. I was not told of this when I checked in and no discount offered. Numerous times I found myself in the middle of the fairway with my ball resting on dirt! Grass was thin and spotty. I'm being generous with a "fair" overall condition rating. Perhaps it will be better in a month or two, but, other than perhaps the greens, I doubt it. Played the Palm course. Can't speak to the condition of Cypress.
Simple Course & Great Scenery
Sunol Valley golf course is perfectly situated between hills/mountains, which makes for a phenomenal view. A few times you can stop and truly appreciate the landscape. As far as the course, we played the Cypress; it is by far one of the most simple layouts - ideal for beginners. I would say 15 of the 18 holes were fairly straight forward. Not too many dog legs, no water hazards, just a few holes where you should a little in the blind. Overall, I would recommend this course to beginner and intermediates.
The most under- rated course in the Bay Area
I played the Palm course today, which is the longer and more challenging of the two. The course is in great shape, from tee boxes to greens, including the bunkers. It's a great course to hit driver, long wide fairways with just enough trouble to keep you thinking. Even the par 3's average 200 yards. Most holes have some elevation change and can be even more of a challenge in breezy conditions. I must say, it's a lot of fun hitting 300+ yd
drives, even if they are slightly downhill-downwind.
Very playable, lot of fun.
This course is good for its money. Friendly staffs.
Need more fairway and green bunkers to make it more challenge.
We just happened to play behind the ladies, but after the 9th hole, pace progress rather quickly.
We played the Cypress Course on a weekday, not busy in the morning. Greens are a bit bumpy due to aeration, fairways are in decent shape. Course is fair not overly difficult for a high handicapper like me, just had a bad day.
Fun
I want to add to my previous review after reading those of others. First it was a great deal ($24). It is not a $50 course. My foursome finished in under 4 hours, but it was a Monday and not busy and we looked for some balls. We played the Palm course. Everyone in my foursome had a great time and that is the most important thing to me. I used to be a good golfer, but those days are behind me. I still love the game and spending time with my friends. Good enough for me. Neil
Fun, interesting course to play
Tough but fair greens; if you are above the hole when putting or chipping on it's difficult. Fairways are open, not much in the way of trouble. Location of approach shot is everything and determines whether your score is high or low, the course hard or easy. Neil
Played the inner (Palm) course. Overall, it was very enjoyable even if I had trouble getting putts to drop in the cup.
Fun layout, open and forgiving except for a couple of holes (crossing ravines). The signs with tips on where to aim your shots was especially nice since I had not played that course before. The greens were fast, but at times a little bumpy. There is a snack bar out on the course but it was not open even though there was a lot of play. Afternoon players need to know that the clubhouse grill closes very early (disappointing) so getting a sandwich or a hot dog after your round is a non-starter.
Fun course to play
Good golf, good people and great weather. How could it be better
Open Faiways, So Let Her Rip
A course to really like. The fairways are well maintained and open. Several elevated tees, which allow you to grip it and rip it. Also, several blind tees, where you really measure the risk or reward. The only downside, the inconsistent greens. Some punched to be super fast, while others required some oomp to get to the hole. Greens are also challenging, with many ridges and slopes. Overall, a fun course that will have you coming back.
Always enjoy the Cypress course at Sunol
Have played this course a few times before and always enjoy it. Played it President's day and it was a little tougher than normal as I think they were planning for rain the next day, so the greens were unusually firm and fast. The plus side was the fairways were also fast with lots of roll if you hit the ball straight. There are only a handful of truly challenging holes on the course, but they really make the round enjoyable. Good facility with a recent remodel of the restaurant/bar area. There is no driving range at the course, but there is a separate range just across the freeway with mats and grass tees. Will continue to play here at the great Golf Now special prices.
The Cypress Course is absolutely terrible. Also, booked on GolfNow and the rates were exactly the same as the course. Poor value...never returning.
First, when you come up to the course, there is a large warning sign about golf club theft...never a good sign. The pro shop staff where fine and friendly. Had an 11:09 tee time and did not get off to 11:30. The carts are the old school gas type. The front nine is generally worse than the back nine. The property is poorly maintained, the course is un-inspired. Also, on the course all the restrooms are porta-pottys. No dress code...saggy pants, wife beaters, crushed beer cans in the parking lot...you get the picture. I expect that GolfNow would vet the courses. The price I paid on GolfNow was exactly what you pay when you walk in.
Overall Good Shape
The course is in good shape. Greens felt very slow and challenging. The course should have at least a net and mats in order to warm up into rather than having to cross the freeway to warm up on irons and drivers. We don't need a full driving range just a spot to take full swings and make contact with a ball.
