took way to long...
120 tee time, no way to finish by sunset. Course way over priced, I would consider it a muni. By the conditions.
good course, good greens, amazing staff...price is a bit high
sunol is a great course with a great staff. i have never had an issue when playing this course and the greens seem to roll true which is all i really care about.
only thing i would change drop the price down to an even 50 it would get a lot more action and attention. i drive all way from san jose and i think more people would too!
Good Course for the money
Sunol(Palm) is a solid course. Requires use of most of your clubs. Course could use a little more attention, but overall very playable. Will definitely go back even though play is usually slow on this course.
Average course with average conditions and more than average rates.
Typically this course is in average shape, has some interesting holes and some quite ordinary. Because of the excess rain in December, the course was quite soggy, although apparently in better shape than the Palms course. Only golf here when can find GolfNow specials, the regular rate is over priced for this course. Also, this course gets a lot of traffic so prepare for 5+ hour rounds, especially on the weekend.
Long From White Tees, A Few Tricky Holes
Played Dec after big rain week, course held up well, only 1 hole soggy (9), greens OK but inconsistent (wet and dry) and fariways good.
Hilly, long from White Tees but generally fair. Played 5 years ago so barely remember the trick and hard holes. A few tight holes but many are wide open.
Usually do not play courses above 6300 yds but this one is playable, though wind was much different than normal according to marshalls report.
Nice course in pretty area.
I enjoyed playing this course. The staff was freindly and the course was in good shape. It is a good challenge to your golf skills.
Well maintained course for enjoyable games
Sunol Valley GC has 2 18-hole courses: Palm and Cypress. Palm is a longer course of 6865 yd and Cypress is 6175 yd. It is next to the highway so it is very convenient in terms of travel. However, the driving range was 1 to 2 miles away, on the other side of the highway. I played at Palm yesterday afternoon. The weather was great, sunny 65F with little wind. The pace was good since it was not busy. Somehow they put all the tees forward to red tees, so my group enjoyed the short forward tees for once. It was 6100 yd. Ladies did not get any advantages. The greens were nice and smooth but a little sandy. It probably was just maintained and aerated a few weeks ago. There were no particular challenging obstacles in this course. So golfers can enjoy playing without losing a lot of balls. I had a birdie for the first hole and that made my day happy.
Best staff in the East Bay -- excellent greens
This is one of the best courses in the East Bay for daily fee play. Courses are in great shape; staff excels in customer service. Great value.
Speed of play is great.
Our starting time was 12:21. Clean parking lot. Clean Clubhouse. Clean windows. Clean restrooms. Clean Restaurant reasonably priced options-Large portions-Condiment containers clean. Clean tables-well bussed. Friendly Cooks. Friendly Pro Shop Saff.
Tees and Greens well groomed. Fairways and rough were fair and not rough. Too many trees for my golfing partners. Boundary and staked areas well marked with freshly painted colors. All 18 Greens were in great shape. Cart paths in good shape. Hole Signage well displayed. I saw a few locations where Greens keepers were grooming the edges of Sand Traps. I like that detail work.
Cold drinking water provided throughout the course in LOCKED containers-for a reason-I like that.
Everybody at Sunol is on the ball-fresh seed & sand available on the carts and Tee boxes. Many locations on Cypress were freshly seeded-they really care about the condition of the course. I'll be back soon.

Green fees are moderate and both 18 hole courses have unique holes
Fairways need improvement with many hard pan areas in play.
A very windy course!
This course for some reason is always very windy. Both the Palm and Cypress courses are short easy courses, but with a 20-30+ MPH wind in your face, these easy, short courses become extreme... to the point where its almost not even fun.
I played Cypress yesterday, we got stuck behind a girls junior match... maybe four or five groups. We were behind the last foursome, they so were the slowest group Ive ever played behind, I did not even finish my 18, we teed off before noon and by 5oclock I had to call it quits, with three holes to go! Those 3 holes would have taken well over a hour
Very disappointing. Pace of play is part of golf etiquete. The coaches and instructors should pass the basics down to the junior golf level.
Public course with some character
Our foursome played the Cypress course on a Sunday morning before football and all in all it was an enjoyable round.
As a long time East Bay resident I've played both the Palm and Cypress courses several times over the years but my friends had never ventured to Sunol. The course isn't very long but it does have some interesting holes. The fairways were average but I must say the greens were in very nice condition and rolled true. Sunol can get windy and play a lot tougher than the calm Sunday morning we played.
Nice course, good value
The course is wide open so you shouldn't lose too many balls, but it tends to get windy so some holes tend to play a lot longer than they look. The greens were in very good condition, fast but fair.
quiet course on weekdays, and friendly staff specially the marshalls
excellent value for low price golf course, affordable and close enough location for retirees like me to play. Been trying to play the course at least once week unless my back and feet are giving me trouble. Hopefully they'll keep the week day rate low enough that older player can have an affordable to play a round of golf.
Course has good variety of holes
This course sees a lot of traffic, but is maintained pretty good! Also challenging on some of the holes, but not overall too difficult. This can change though with the wind conditions that usually come up in the early afternoon. Very good value!
