About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
Quail Hollow Golf Course, located in Wesley Chapel, sits a convenient five minutes off of I-75 and state road 54. This championship course, designed by Charles E. Griffin, has been a favorite of Tampa locals since opening in 1965. The layout underwent major renovations in 2011 that totally reconditioned the greens and fairways as well as partially rebuilt it to make it more challenging. Bunkers were both reshaped and added. Water hazards come into play on a few holes and the large bunkers are strategically placed along the greensides. The golf course is demanding at times and will test your shot-making skills, but it is a fair challenge that is not too intimidating for beginners. Four sets of tees make it even more approachable for a range of skill levels.

Cannot Wait To Play Again
I had the chance to play Quail Hollow (Wesley Chapel, FL) after booking on-line through GolfNow.com. To say that I ended up stealing this time for the price is a huge understatement. Golf cost $20 w/cart. Truth be told I have wanted to play Quail Hollow (known hereafter as QH) for 3 years but hadn't had the opportunity until now. The wait was well worth it.
Check-in was very fast and very easy. The gent in the Pro Shop (which is well stocked) was friendly and was quite apologetic about not having yardage books. When asked if they had a range for warming up again he was quite sincere in apologizing that they didn't but told me they had a couple of hitting bays with balls. I wanted to warm up but the starter who was less friendly (and quite terse) hustled us out to the 1st tee. He also asked where I got the key for the cart as carts were not allowed in parking lot. I told him it was in the cart. He actually scolded us a little. (Dear QH: If carts are not allowed in parking lot then please have appropriate signage stating so. Granted they are allowed in the lot after the round. I get it... where I am an Assistant Pro we do this to prevent personal coolers from making their way onto the course.) The grounds upon entering were very clean and you can tell that QH takes pride in their property.
They should take pride in this property. When Charles Griffin designed this course he had an amazing piece of property to use as a canvass. The course is gorgeous. The greens are in fantastic shape, the greenskeeping crew were working on the course while out playing. Rolling fairways, cutting greens and what appeared to be overseeding. The crew gets huge props for not only not interfering with golfers rounds but their work in general. There was a beverage cart out and even though we didn't use it the girl aboard was very attentive friendly.
There is not an ugly hole on this course. The fairways are lush (like a carpet) and the greens roll true. There was only one green that had some signs of illness but knowing what I know about green care steps have been taken to correct the issue. It was #17 as i recollect. I could go on gushing about QH and as a matter of fact out of courses that I have played thus far in FL it is my favourite.
If you get a chance play QH.
Great value for the money, but course needs some TLC
I really liked the course, but....
We were in a threesome being held up by a twosome, with no marshal to move them along. Ugh, how two guys can take so long on every shot with us standing there waiting all the time...
As for the course, its the greens that clearly need the most work. Some had bare patches and it seemed to us that some were fast and some were slow, making putting tough.
But, for the money, enjoyable and forgiving course that I would definitely consider revisiting.
Not to Bad
An OK course. I would stay away if it has rained in the last 3-4 days. Course is wet.
Ok track for locals
I feel like this course is nice enough and if it were closer to me I would be there a fair amount. No driving range for warm up. Greens need a bit of attention but weren't bad at all. There was nothing special about the place but nothing that made me say wow either
Poor
The course was wet .very slow playing, took 5 hours and 20 minutes to play.Staff are dissorganized.
Nice conditions, slow play
Played on 12/23. The course was too wet to drive on after 2 days of rain, and it was hard finding a dry lie. That being said, the course was in great shape from tee to green. Greens are some of the best that I've played on lately. There are some tee shots that demand accuracy, and there are plenty of water hazards around the course to steal golf balls, but you can score well here if you keep the ball in play.
The only drawback was the pace of play. We were stymied by two foursomes in front of us who would not let anyone play through, and there were no rangers to speed them along.
course in great shape
played this course with my buddy and was paired two out of towners. we had a awesome time and i recommend this facility not only for a great round but to host your corporate events etc.
Quail Hollow
Course was in excellent condition. Beverage cart during the week was a plus.
Hit straight lots water and big trees
Value for the right price . Fairways are very good
very good fairways
The area received a large amount of rain and had a few holes that were cart path only but overall very good condition.
Maybe during low rate season
On a picture perfect day we played in ideal conditions. The course is average at best for all of the choices that we have in the area. I thought $35.00 was too much for this back and forth layout. Plus I am spoiled living here in paradise.
Quail Hollow during Thanksgiving
I would recommend this course to the average player
There is the first impression and good hours to apreciate this course
With only a net as pratice and training green, we had been afraid arriving ...
But still it is a good run, very well maintained.
we will go back again
course was in great condition.the course help was very good.pro shop starter ground crews all were very good people
Nice Course!
The course was in really good condition. We played the round in pretty good fashion. The staff was courteous and helpful. The event manager Britney was assisting in the 19th hole. The food was excellent too!
Typical Florida Community Course
You can tell they put a lot of work into it. Found out later that they did recently do some renovations. We weren't allowed to be on the fairways for some reason though. Greens were like concrete.
The course is pretty easy layout wise. Everything is pretty flat and open with a few tight tee sheets. Not bad, but I wouldn't spend $25 to play here when there are much better course for the money.
Quail Hollow is Nice
Course was in great shape. We started at 8:05 and finished right about noon. Pave was excellent and they even had an Ambassador ensuring pace. Cart girls were awesome and never gone for too long. Considering the course was full ( there were a few foursomes in front of us and a few behind us), the play was great. Did I mention that we only paid $21.00? So the price was excellent also.
Fun Track, Good Value
A nicely designed layout featuring plenty of sand around the greens plus water and trees along the fairways. A mixture of mature and young trees, mostly pines and oaks give a feeling of being out in the country. The water hazards appear to be man made and mostly shallow. Neither trees or water are overly intrusive but definitely are a factor in shot selection. The course was in very good shape overall, except for one green on the back that was in terrible shape with bare spots, weeds and dirt being the major surface. Fairways were fine with playable rough if you find yourself there. The course appears to be on the edge of a rural and industrial area, although there are homes along a few of the fairways.
My foursome played the blue tees even though none of us are very good golfers. If I remember, the blues are about 6300 yds so it's not a long course. Playing time for 18 was right at 4 hours on a Sat morning so that was excellent.
My biggest gripe was that they don't have a range. the only means of warmup is a two station hitting net off mats, but the balls are supplied.
I've been told they have live bands out on the bar/patio on weekends but I didn't experience that. I mention it because the bar must be a big part of the business.
Final review- I would gladly play QH again. A fun course for the $$.
Hit 'Em Straight
I have played Quail Hollow several times and the course is in excellent condition. Greens, fairways, bunkers and rough are all very well maintained.
Fairways are the perfect width to forgive the occasional push or pull; however, you want to stay in in or close to the fairways off the tees or you get to deal with our-of-bounds or hazards, so hit 'em straight.
Quail Hollow is on my personal "Replay List" especially when booking through Golf Now.
