David L. Baker Memorial Golf
About
The David L. Baker Golf Course is an affordable public course located in Fountain Valley. It has an approachable layout that is versatile enough to appeal to a range of different skill levels. No two holes are alike but all of the greens and fairways share the same excellent conditions. Water has a prominent presence on this executive golf course with lakes and ponds running alongside many of the holes. The sloped greens are lightning fast and the fairways are tightly manicured. Beside the greens lurk treacherous sand traps that are just waiting to swallow errant shots. Although there are some tricky holes, the layout is gentle enough for beginners. It is an enjoyable and affordable round that offers excellent short game practice, no matter what skill level.

Good value
Overall conditions were good. Tee boxes were pretty torn up though. Was very disappointed that the bar/snack shop closed at 1:00 just as we were making the turn. Course used to have a drink cart around the course but didn’t have that either. I like this course for the more social aspects as one of our foursome was a beginner The amenities are important to me.
All tee boxes were moved way up.
Every tee box for. every hole were moved way up. Not Worth the money.. they should have Provided a reduced green fee.
I would not recommend this golf course to a friend with this type of condition.
a crap course
Golf in and around the Los Angeles area has gone downhill over the last 10 years - 15 years and David L. Baker is just another example of Golf courses that do not care about about the golfer or the experience.
There was no warning that all the tees were combined. This is effectively false advertising. The pace was horrible. Hitting the ball and then waiting 10 minutes after every shot is not golf. Mostly beginner/novice golfers that have no concept of pace. The whole course was just crap. Even the restroom did not have a working sink. See attached picture. Never going back.
Hi zero9si, thank you for sharing your experience at David L. Baker. We apologize for the disappointment you encountered with the combined tees and the pace of play. We strive to provide a positive golfing experience and appreciate your feedback. We apologize for the restroom issue as well and that issue has been addressed and fixed.
Shortened up PAR 3’s
PAR 3’s were shortened up by 20-30 Ft , one was 60 yards , didn’t expect that . Most PAR 3’s 100 tards or less. . Grass conditions were good , some spots all mudded up. Best thing was the lights you don’t have to rush your play in the afternoon when it gets dark early .
Hi JTGolf24T, thank you for sharing your feedback. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the shortened Par 3's. We're glad to hear that the grass conditions were good and that you enjoyed playing with our lights during the darker hours. We appreciate your review.
Great Place to Practice Short Game
This course is not particularly long or challenging, but the conditions of the greens were fine. It's a good place for mid to high handicappers to practice hitting greens.
Rough Tee Boxes
Tee boxes almost all dirt, fairways decent but hard, greens were fair. Staff pretty snooty for a public course. Buch of snobby college kids managing the joint. Not friendly, no smiles, no concept of customer service. They act like they’re touring pros and they're doing you a favor by taking your money. I’ve seen better personalities on door mats. The golf is not too bad paced but gets backed up on the weekends for sure. No cart girls. A couple of over capacity Porta Potty’s around hole 15 that are in bad shape. This is a Par 62 executive course to get a last minute round in.
Hi u002881584, thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We apologize if our staff did not meet your expectations. We strive to provide excellent customer service and will address this with our team. We appreciate your patience and hope you'll give us another chance in the future.
Bumpy Greens
In town for a bit of recreation and chose this course based on reviews mostly that the pace of play was good. But the day we were there it was pretty darn slow. MANY golfers had no clue about course etiquette. The greens had not been rolled in a week it seemed, which was my biggest issue. I would try again but will give another course an opportunity first.
Hi Flagman54, thank you for your feedback. We apologize for the slower pace of play and the lack of course etiquette you experienced. We appreciate your patience and understanding. We'll take your concerns about the greens into consideration and work to improve. We hope you'll give us another chance in the future.
Pay on line only
The course has always been great. The staff always been awesome. It’s a quick little course. The greens can only get better. I just wish we went back to paying there and not on line.
Disappointed
The last time I played here was before pandemic and I thought it was great then. Very disappointed on the pace of play yesterday. there are groups where they hit 4-5x from tee box/fairway and you just can’t do that. Players need to learn basic golf etiquette before playing at any golf course.
They say you get what you pay for and I sure did! Never coming back here unless I’m with someone who is a beginner.
Hi Carol, thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We apologize for the disappointment you experienced with the pace of play. We appreciate your suggestion regarding golf etiquette and will take it into consideration. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future.
Pace of play was great for a Saturday
Played in 3 hours and 30 minutes which is good for a Saturday afternoon tee time
Hi Rich, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We appreciate hearing about your experience and apologize for any inconvenience you may have encountered. This is the time of year where we are overseeding and fixing our tee boxes and we apologize for not giving advanced notice of this issue. Let us know if there's anything else we can do.
