The Golf Club at Rancho California

I’m delighted to give this course a positive review after a long while of inconsistency. I loved this course back in the 80s and 90s when it was managed by the SCGA. At some point new owners came in, cut the maintenance budget, and it showed. Now it appears the course is being well cared for, and that’s only fitting for the outstanding RTJ design. Pace of play was great at 11am on a Wednesday, just 3:20 because a couple kind groups allowed us to play through. Only complaint would be numerous, deep footprints in the new bunkers. Yeah, the new sand is heavy and difficult to rake, but c’mon people, help take care of this gem!

Was a perfect day out there today. Back to back weeks playing here. Couldn't ask for better course conditions. Keep up the good work!

Conditions were great and pace was good. The layout was fantastic with some great views and cool holes. I thought the course would be harder given the slope rating, but as long as you play smart off the tee boxes it's not too challenging. If I lived closer I would play here all the time.

This was my first time playing here and before playing here I heard a ton of hate of how bad the conditions are compared to how they used to be. While I am sure that was true, I found the course conditions to be extremely good. The fairways and greens are in good shape and short, the rough is distinct but not overly punishing. Most of the green side bunkers have been renovated and filled with fresh white sand while fairway bunkers are still a little compact but completely acceptable.

The pace of play was okay, slower than I prefer but honestly golf is just a little slower these days everywhere.

The practice facility is nice as well. There is a large range that is off grass during the later part of the week. The range balls weren’t in great shape but it’s easy to over look when there are multiple putting greens and short game areas.

I think this course is going to continue to improve but as it stands, I do not think there is a better value for money in a 10 mile radius. Give this place a chance!

I've played here a few times over the last 6 months or so and have enjoyed it everytime. The course is in great shape and is very playable. The greens were in near perfect shape free of discoloration or potmarks. They rolled about a 9 or 10 as we started at 7 am with mosture still on the greens. This made it much easier to be agressive without the fear of getting a longer second putt. The fairways and rough were very playable. My only disappointment was the pebbles and rocks in the bunkers but a minor inconvenience to throw them out of the bunkers. The pace of play was 3:45 without pushing from behind or excessive waiting on the group ahead. The starter was very helpful and got me out 30 minutes early even after the pro shop made a big stink about me booking through golfnow and getting a discount:( If you're going to discriminate between full paying customers and smarter ones whom use a golfnow hot deal, then don't offer hot deals. Overall a great birthday round and I will definitely return for another round!

The course was in great condition. Fairways and greens were better then average.

Trent Jones designed course. One of my favorite courses. Conditions were very good, I am sure the rain this winter has helped. Working on sand traps with nice powder sand. Hopefully they will water this summer and get the greens a little faster.

Place is in great shape. Tee boxes, fairways and greens all in perfect condition.

I’ve been playing this course for over 20 years and I have never seen it in better condition. The fairways are legendary, but the greens are even better. This is the greatest value for golf and all of Southern California. Kudos to the greenskeeper and the staff for making this incredible experience.

Not only has the course handled all the extra rain of late, the sand traps are being filled with…SAND!!

Best conditions in the 7 years. Winter rain makes the course lush and staff are staying ahead with maintenance
