Not bad at all
Nice course overall, some solos here will ride you and refuse to pass ahead. Not very patient. But overall it’s not bad.
Bad course maintenance
This course needs to work on its course maintenance. They were watering a green that we were trying to play. There was a lot of mud and over watering all over the course. There was a lot of divots on the fairway and greens.
Upland Hills
Very narrow and technical course. Good greens but bunkers need better sand.
Very flat but lots of trees so challenging will diffently come back
Very challenging flat course not a lot of hills, but a lot of trees so challenging and the snack bar and navigation was awesome
Great Time in Upland
Upland is never a disappointment. One of the best values in the IE.
not what it thinks it is
I play this course because my friends like it, but the price point on the weekends is absurd. It's a short course that tests one skill, which is hitting it straight. If you can hit it straight, you will score easily; otherwise it's all penalty drops and punch-outs.
There are basic things about course management that the management does not understand. For example, there is no reason to water the course an hour before play starts. That's what irrigation timers are for. Also, for some reason they aren't able to change the pin placements for the day until play as started, so there is a maintenance worker doing that while your round is in progress. What's worse, he moves in the same direction as play, rather than upstream, so you can get stuck with the pin placement guy for several holes.
Usually they color code the flags for front-middle-back, but sometimes they don't bother, so you hit at a white flag only to discover that the pin is back. The greens are small enough that it doesn't matter that much, but even a mid-handicapper would like to know the distance to better than 10 yards.
The fairways have so many bare and pitted spots that you either have to play preferred lies or accept a high degree of randomness. The rough is not that bad in most places, so you're usually better off a yard or two off the fairway rather than in it, because you're more likely to get a decent lie.
They get a ton of beginners who just want to drink beer and mess around, which is okay, but it can sometimes make play very slow. The marshals, when they're out there at all, are clueless -- I complained to one that the group ahead of us was out of position, and he said, "What's that mean?"
Generally the course offers a satisfying, if mediocre, experience, but the weekend pricing is completely out of line. If not for my friends choosing the course out of comfort, I'd never consider it on the weekends.
