Buenaventura Golf Course
About
Buenaventura Golf Course originally opened in 1932 as a nine-hole course but closed in 2004 for major renovations. The course's original designer, William Bell, was consulted for the redesign. It was transformed into a more challenging course, but the 1930s design features were carefully preserved. The parkland layout may seem short at just over 6,000 yards but like many of the courses from that era, length is not as important as strategy and course management. The strategically placed bunkers have classic shapes that blend seamlessly into the natural environment as though they were carved by the river. The bunkers combined with the fast, sloping greens make the golf course a shot-maker's paradise. One of Buenaventura's most memorable holes is the par-4 13th. It is one of Bell's original designs, an interesting risk-reward opportunity with water along the right.

Slow pace
We went out @ 3 and we're unable to finish because of waiting on every hole. Would have been a five hr round.
This course is a pleasure to play
This was the second time I had played this course. The staff and customer service are excellent. I had a 12:30 tee time and because the traffic was horrible getting there I knew that we were gonna have to be pushed back. I called the course and they were very accomodating. Playing this course for the second time brought back pleaseant memories from the first time I played it. The fairways and greens are excellent! They have beautiful monterey pine trees all over. The course is not that hard and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a relaxing day of golf in a beautiful setting.
It"s challenging!
Fair ways are well maintained. Greens are very challenging
Excellent course for the short hitter
Course is in the best shape in the last few years. Several improved tee boxes.
Great Day
Played early and the sky was overcast due to coastal layer but cleared by about 9th hole. Course was in good shape but a few fairway bare spots. Staff was friendly and helpful and Robert signed me up for their rewards program which is very good. I recommend this course and I will play again in the near future happily.
Local knowledge required
I was so disappointed in this course. We were first off and joined by an very good golfer from northern California who was also playing this course for the 1st time. My friend plays Buenaventura weekly.
We played the blacks and the tee boxes were very small, in poor condition, several without yardage stones.
Only 150 poles in the middle of fairways and very few other distance makers.
Many of the par 4s were very short and sharply doglegged, without local knowledge, making your drives run through the fairway.
The green's speed were highly varied.
The day was beautifully, slightly overcast, very little wind...yet everywhere sprinklers were over-watering the course...almost every hole what standing water.
On a good note, the bunkers were deep and had good sand and the lakes on the course were strategically placed inviting you to weigh the risk/reward.
With so many outstanding courses in Ventura County, I do not expect to play Buena again!
Good condition
The course was in good shape...a little shorter than I usually play but the contour of the greens made it challenging. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience,
Buena's Golfcourse
I have play countless rounds in this Golfcourse , I also got married here, I have seen this course in real bed conditions and in great conditions as well, but no matter what this is the place where I always want to come back if I want to boost my confidence , this is where I got my first eagle at 18 and my first hole in one at 5 . There are many special things here, like the chicken at 11th who no longer minds humans or the trees at 13th or the sand trap in the middle of the fairway at 9, there are tough holes like 10 that no matter what you can't get to it on two or 16 always playing a little longer then it seams . Yes ,,,do play this Golfcourse !! And make your own memories too.
Great course for the money
Par 70. White tee players can play from the blue. Average width fairways with numerous trees and some water. Fairways in good condition. Greens are fast and in good condition. Great value for the money.
Good Value
Beautiful weather, pretty course. Interesting, women-friendly tee boxes.
Love This Course
This is just a great course which is in great shape. Recommended for mid to high handicap's.
nice course
like the layout of course but greens have a little too much undulation for me.
Buena Ventura G.C.
I played on a Fri. at 6:45A and there were few people at the course. I went out alone and flew around the course finishing the front is just over an hour and was completely finished by 9:30A. Huge value to put a round in in 2 1/2 hours. The course was in good condition with a defined fairway and rough. Greens were in excellent condition, fast and putted true. Overall a good value (Hot Deal on Golf Now) and a course built in 1932 by Bell.
A Walk in the Park..........
My friend and I were looking for a relaxing day on the links, we found it at Buena Ventura.
Although I have played here several times over the years, the course was in the best shape I've seen and the greens were challenging.
We had a great day and will return. The course plays fairly easy if you place your tee shots. The trees come into play a lot.
Thanks, Buena Ventura.
Vacationing in Oxnard
The starter was very friendly and paired me up with 3 great guys including an older gentleman named "Buzz". We had a great time. I started out shanking 2 shots in a row on the first tee, but after that I settled down and had a fun round! The greens are hilly, but the holes are short for the most part. Pace of play was good, and the course was in nice shape for January and the fact that the area is in a pretty long drought. This course is nice for someone who is looking to play during vacation and enjoy the surroundings as well as the comaraderie!
Iron course
Fun course to work on your iron play, staff is friendly, only problem is pace a play is slow, very slow at times from beginners golfers or older age golfers.
Nice place to play
Buenaventura has greatly improved over the last few years. The overall condition is good and the greens putt well. It would be nicer if there was cart service. I would play there again.
Hometown Favoite
A very nice layout with a simple track. Generous fairways and no long rough. Nice sandtraps and just enough water to make you think every now and then. Consistent greens with unough undulation to keep you honest. Oh, and my first hole in one on #11!
We played on a Sunday afternoon
Since I am a casual golfer I'm not an expert but I rarely play on weekends due to slow play. Once we got ahead of the slow pokes in front of us (no Marshall on duty) our game steadily improved . As for the course it was exciting with the rolling greens and deep bunkers, kept the challenge of focus and curiosity on each hole. Yes this was my first time at this golf course. Will be playing more often. Staff was very professional and gave us a warm welcome
great overall conditions.
It's a shot makers course. Well maintained from tee to green. Good value for the money. Great pace of play.
