Buenaventura Golf Course
About
Buenaventura Golf Course originally opened in 1932 as a nine-hole course but closed in 2004 for major renovations. The course's original designer, William Bell, was consulted for the redesign. It was transformed into a more challenging course, but the 1930s design features were carefully preserved. The parkland layout may seem short at just over 6,000 yards but like many of the courses from that era, length is not as important as strategy and course management. The strategically placed bunkers have classic shapes that blend seamlessly into the natural environment as though they were carved by the river. The bunkers combined with the fast, sloping greens make the golf course a shot-maker's paradise. One of Buenaventura's most memorable holes is the par-4 13th. It is one of Bell's original designs, an interesting risk-reward opportunity with water along the right.

Excellent day
Course is in great shape, and greens are very pure. Pace was a little slow as we were behind walkers, but course is a good one to walk.
Will be back!
Great course but not as easy as golfers think!
Golf course is in great shape! Course look easy but there are some challenging holes. Great course to walk. Staff is most friendly and happy they have a liquor license.
Enjoyable course
Easy course, very well kept. Play from the tips (black tees) and its a good time.
course in great shape
The course is in great shape and the staff is always friendly. Great value for the price and course.
Over priced
not worth the price..course is too plain and in poor condition for $65
Good course for the money
Greens are nice however fairways could use some work. Great day overall. Will play again
Nice Course
I had a great time playing this course. It provides a fun challenge.
Great value on a beautiful and interesting layout!
Course conditions were very good. Fairways were comfortable for ball striking, being firm but with the "right" amount of cushion underneath the ball.
Layout is interesting and varied- very good risk/reward situations and excellent for a variety of skill levels to play together with appropriate tees for all.
I feel lucky to live nearby and plan to play here regularly.
Fun course
Nicely kept up older facility. Small pro shop and restaurant. No driving range. Would happily play again.
Nicely maintained, good course for working on short and mid-range game.
Most greens are reachable w/ good tee shot and middle iron - nice for players who don't like a tee & 2 fairway shots to green. Course is well maintained, greens are nicely contoured, traps at greens need to be avoided.
Thursday at Buenaventura
Started as single. course in good shape. front nine moved quickly. back nine a little sticky, but overall a great day.
Comfortable Inland course
Shorter length old style course. Great driving course but the difficulty lies in the greens. Many hidden pin positions and mounding atound the greens. Bring your putter A game.
ventura golf
course in great condition staff friendly and helpful
Roaddog
The course was in good shape and the pace of play was good.
Nice course
Nice course. Maintained nicely. Lots of yardage markers. On the short side which suites my game.
Affordable and fun
Great place to play and very affordable. If you have length off the tees there's a few par 4's you can drive. Fairways and greens are in great shape. I say go out and challenge yourself from the black tees where it makes it a little tougher but still manageable!! Goodluck!!
Buenaventura
Played on a $24 special, teed off @ 745A on Monday 12/1. Walked a very enjoyable 18 holes with GDR23 and Pedro7170, POP was 4 h 15m. The front 9 was less than 2 hours, the back 9 was brutal, we were behind a 5some and waited seemingly forever on numerous shots. 5 seniors, 3 men, 2 women, none of whom looked to be under 75. The way they were constantly circling their carts around looking for balls, I thought I was watching an old Cowboy & Indian movie... I have an issue with ANY course that lets 5 people who can't hit it father than 150 yards nor find their balls play together and back things up like these people did today. They were so clueless they tried to come back and play OUR balls after we waited 5 minutes and hit to where they had finally vacated... No marshall or cart person. Anyway, on to the course review...
The greens were smooth and putted VERY well, medium fast & firm. Easily the best greens I have putted on this golf season.
The fairways were very green, nicely manicured and lush as well. The rough is generally mowed down and not too penal.
I was not in any sand traps, but they looked to be raked and well maintained.
The tees are lush, mostly kikuya and all were in good shape, although a few need leveling.
The pro shop was very busy and did a good job of getting us out on time. A great value @ $24 to walk on a Monday A.M considering the course conditions.
Back at Montalvo
Nice to see the oldest Ventura course still up and running. Good conditions, greens were fun, carts were quick, weather California perfect, food service somewhat slow(didn't pick up phone when trying to order at the 9 tee box} Overall 8 out of 10.
Challenging Course
A few water hazards and blind areas due to high mounds. Several holes where you have to think about where you want to place your shots. Had a great time.
Great Round1
I had not played here is 10+ years. Was pleasantly reminded how nice the course is. We got out as a twosome an a Saturday of a holiday weekend at 8am. The round only took us 3 1/4 hrs! Probably not the norm but excellent nontheless. Greens were great, a bit too tricked up w/ many breaks but still fun and straight forward to read. The course is not long, you can keep the driver in the bag on most par 4's but can go for it too. The round took some thinking and choices as to risk/reward on shots, I like that mental aspect. Staff was great. No driving range or cart GPS, bummer. I'll be back!!
