Olivas Links Golf Course

About
Situated along the Ventura Harbor overlooking the Santa Clara River, Olivas Links (formerly known as Olivas Park Golf Course) enjoys coastal breezes that make it cool in the summer and warm in the winter, providing perfect conditions for golf year-round. The golf course has a links-style layout that closely follows the natural swales and curves of the landscape and separated by bands of fescue and wild grasses. The course is mostly open but there are some large pine trees scattered throughout. Its seaside location subjects the golf course to strong winds, especially on the front nine. The challenging layout offers multi-tiered greens and contoured mounding along the fairways. There are also deep bunkers strategically placed throughout Olivas Links, but the openness of the course places a stronger emphasis on hitting the right spot on the fairway or getting the correct angle of approach to the green rather than avoiding the bunkers.

Punched Greens = Bummer
Course in great condition. Pace of play was fantastic and the weather couldn’t have been better. But the greens were just punched and super sandy. Next time let us know or discount the green fees.
Saturday on the links
Great day at Olivas Links. Course always in great shape and friendly staff
Best in Ventura Area
One of the Best Conditions on the Central Coast. Tee-Boxes, Fairways, Fringe and Greens in great shape.
Cool course. Staff doesn't care about pace of play
Had a 3:30pm Tee Time. Came to tee with a couple teeing off in front of me and one other single that had joined. Couple decided to tee off and drive off without saying anything as me and the other person were teeing off. Told them to come back but they refused so we had to wait for them, while they were behind a 4some also. Called the clubhouse, they just told me to either play through them or have them join us. Obviously not going to play through them since there were groups of 4 on the next 5-6 holes. Told the clubhouse I'd already asked them and they refused and they said to ask again and wouldn't offer any other help.
This course is nice but it's always slammed and there's no one monitoring pace of play. They even have these cool signs that say their pace of play is slow and you should be used to it by now...Pretty weird.
Golfing as a single
Tee time Monday 8/14 at 3:30. Was originally scheduled for my wife and I but she couldn’t make it. Went by myself. Hooked up with a golfer my age and similar golf game. He was walking and I had a cart. My wife and I just bought push carts and are going to use them this Friday at Olivas links. Saw how my playing partner enjoyed walking. Couple in front of us was taking forever each hole. Looks like female was learning and her male partner was trying to instruct her and they had a golf cart. She was constantly whiffing the ball, getting stuck in sand trap, one time over 5 minutes which she finally took ball out. After about seven holes we jumped back over to the 2nd hole where nobody was at and we moved along nicely after that. My gripe was, where was the marshal. No where in site. Would have definitely told him to speed them up. If anything they could see we were waiting for them each hole, could have told us to pass them up as a courtesy, anyway only finished 16 holes because it got dark. Normally would have finish18 with still daylight left for 3:30 starting time. Felt gipped. Anyways love Olivas links
Great Conditions but WINDY
Got a hot deal for $36 with a cart. Course is in great condition but being so close to the ocean it’s super windy. It seems about 13-14 are directly into the wind. Not knowing the course, I made some mistakes and anything off the fairway is basically a lost ball.
Fairways were nice, greens rolled true. The pro shop was a trailer and the carts sucked but I’m there to play so I don’t care about those things. For $36 I would have walked the course. I’m definitely going to play again.
Course is Beautiful
They need a real building for the clubhouse. The portable building and bathroom are gross and dirty, no restaurant, just hot dogs. Also, there is no drinking water available on the course. There needs to be a fountain or a couple coolers to refill your water bottle.
Olivas, always a treat!
Walked the Blues (71.2/122/6530) with my Gary and Matt. $30 to walk twilight. Partly cloudy, in the 60's with a 2 club wind most of the round. We waited most shots even as a 3some walking behind stacked 4somes in front of us, POP slightly less than 5H.
Tees were lush, level and in good shape with few unfixed divot zones.
Fairways mostly lush, Nicely cushioned and good to play from with a few GUR areas per fairway.
Rough just off the fairways was green, uniform and lush. Get outside the cart paths and it is thick, lost ball vegetation. Nice to see water back in the lakes here as well.
Sand traps have nice beach sand and were well maintained. Only negative is that they could use more sand IMO.
Large poa greens were receptive and rolling nicely. Soft enough that chips/pitches were making ball marks, which many do not think to fix. Many undulations to these greens and we they had some tournament pin locations today.
Very friendly staff is always a + here. Really nice practice areas and you almost always get cooler temps with an ocean breeze. Highly recommend this course, excellent, very fun to play layout.
